Giving kids what they need to thrive
Your Donations help EBC Give Kids
WHAT they need, When they need it Summer is generally the time Pacific Northwesterners most appreciate this glorious place in which we live. But for anyone who’s been here for more than a few summers, we understand summer can mean 60 degrees and rainy one day and 90 degrees and sweltering the next. Being properly outfitted for a PNW summer means owning everything from shorts, to fleece, to rain gear, to proper socks to wear with your sandals. Owning all of these items can be cost prohibitive for many local families, especially if they are trying to make sure they have these items in the right size for their growing children. This is where YOU fit in. By donating your children’s outgrown clothing, you allow EBC to give local kids exactly what they need. This isn’t just a summertime happening, either. In the winter your donated coats, hats, mittens and boots keep local kids warm. In the fall, the pants and sweaters you donate send kids back to school prepared to learn. It’s pretty great that YOU can make such a big impact in your community just by cleaning out your closets. Do you know The Big Bundle? When a family, working through our provider partners, orders clothing for their child, they are given a bag of goodness known as The Big Bundle. The Big Bundle contains a week’s work of SEASONALLY APPROPRIATE clothing selected specifically for that child.
It also has socks, underclothes, shoes, toiletries, books and small toys. All item donated by YOU, or purchased with your cash donations. We need more of your clothing. EBC gives out nearly 200 Big Bundles every week. We help kids up to age 12, so we take children’s clothing up to size 14. We have the most difficulty keeping enough big kid clothing, especially boys clothing. What can I donate? A full list of accepted items is available online at www.babycorner.org/donate-goods. We ask that all clothing be clean and in gently used condition. Looking for a way to do even more to help the kids in your community? Consider hosting a collection drive or event for EBC. You can help us get more of the items we have trouble keeping in stock when you host a collection drive, which can be as simple as asking friends to drop their kids clothing at your house. Email Corib@babycorner.org to learn more.
Local businesses collect 54,845 diapers during Diaper Derby,
Proliance takes home the Triple Crown
On May 6th twenty five local businesses began a month-long diaper collection competition to see who could bring in the most diapers for local kids in need. After five nail biting weeks of steep competition, the 2nd Annual Diaper Derby came to a close with PROLIANCE ORTHOPAEDICS AND SPORTS MEDICINE taking home the Triple Crown. Proliance also wins their division of the race, the Kentucky Derby division. Coldstream Wealth Management wins their division, the Preakness, for a second year; and Heritage Bank also repeats, winning the Belmont Stakes division. In total 54,845 were collected during the Derby. You can find a complete list of participants and collection totals plus, why it is so important to give diapers to families in need at www.babycorner.org/diaper-derby. In the photos: Clockwise from left, The 2nd Annual Diaper Derby brought in 54,845 diapers. Proliance drops off diapers during one of the weekly check ins. Coldstream was determined to hold on to their division title. Heritage Bank also repeats, winning their division for a second year in a row.

7TH ANNUAL PANTS PARTY September 10, 2016
Is your kid’s bike too small?
Pants Party, held each year as children return to school, is part collection drive, part familyfun carnival. Attendees are asked to bring in a donation of new or gently used children’s pants (size NB to 14). In return, they are invited to stay for entertainment, food, games, giveaways and more.
The impact of donating it to Eastside Baby Corner won’t be
In 2015 EBC gave nearly 500 local children refurbished bikes, trikes and scooters, and the chance to feel the freedom that only comes from the seat of a bike. We were able to do that thanks to partnerships with local police departments and YOU. Still, many people don’t know we accept bikes as donations; or that
we can even take them with (minimal) repair needs, because of our amazing team of fix-it guys. Currently, we receive more orders for bikes than we have to fill them. When your child outgrows his or her bike, please consider donating it to EBC. Our biggest need is for boys and girls 16”, 20” and 24” bikes.

Back to School? Already? Even though summer vacation has just begun, back to school time is already on our minds. We have a lot to get done to make sure we have enough supplies to fill all the back to school orders. For our school supplies program we offer backpacks alone and backpacks full of supplies, for two different age groups (5 to 8 and 9 to 12), and for both boys and girls. We have a list of supplies we created from school district’s recommended supplies lists, and we do our best to offer children everything they need. We rely almost completely on donations for all of our school supplies. We are happy to accept almost anything school related, but are particularly in need of college rule notebooks and filler paper, erasers, markers (wide and fine), color pencils, scissors and boys backpacks. If you would like to help, you can drop off supplies at our hub or host a drive. Contact Cori at corib@babycorner.org.
