Lover Boy is a bull that Griswold Cattle has followed closely since Yardley’s bought him in Denver, for some reason those two programs watch what the other is doing:) The longer we sell semen the more we come to recognize that people want calving ease, especially on their first calf heifers. Yardley’s have bred their heifers to Lover Boy consistently for the last three years and have got along awesome. The best part of it is that you have a marketable calf when it is all said and done. If you chase API, which we don’t, but if you do, we have a bull you can hang your hat on with a 156 API. But don’t get to hung up for some reason Steel Force dropped 50 points after he was 10 years old when the numbers should finally be accurate. We didn’t buy him for his API we bought him because he’s good. Lover Boy was Grand Champion in Denver, his dam was champion at the American Royal. 18

First calf heifers are something everyone in the business knows that getting a nice small calf has so many advantages. You have a live calf, that gets up and sucks (if they don’t do those two things, does anything else matter?), a first calf heifer that will breed back quicker because she’s had no trauma, and you get a replacement female that is a great cow with calving ease bred into her pedigree.
