Everyone at Waukaru fully understands that you have many choices for genetics; we truly appreciate the interest you have in our program. It is interesting that recently the media has re-glorified terms like “old school” and “back to basics.” We still keep the traditions alive that were imposed by our ancestors when doing business, like a handshake, transparency and building relationships to better understand individual genetic needs and demands for each specific operation. Understandably, we know our product better than ever, and better than anyone else, just as you know your needs. The cow calf producer is in the driver’s seat once again, and will be for the next five to six years. The animals produced by the sires in this book will return more total dollars to their operation than any in its history. The recent CattleFax executive summary painted a very positive picture for cow calf producers. US cattle inventories are expected to be at record lows by the end of 2023, yet the demand for our good product continues to surge and set new highs. Current projections for 2023 include an increase of $30-$50 per hundredweight on both 550 and 800 pound steer calves; exciting times. It made me proud to hear that although the US is home to only 10% of the world’s cowherd, we produce over 20% of the world’s beef supply. Congratulations on your hard work.
This group of bulls selling on March 18 is exciting. They have been easy to manage and develop, they are modern, and will solve specific challenges in your cowherd. You will find some familiar names as most of the previous sires have moved to be the maternal grandsires. It is exciting to see the daughters outproducing their ancestors. Also, it is exciting to unveil a new sire, Waukaru Latigo 0033. You will find this a group of powerful, growthy cattle that are designed correctly and help bridge the antagonism of large muscle and high marbling.
The replacement heifers selling are flat out good ones and developed and built with the new owner in mind. They have been developed on a high roughage diet that has been balanced for protein. The ones that excelled are on offer; any missteps have been removed. These cattle are from three different operations and three different environments, but have all used Waukaru genetics with great success. It is an honor to be able to offer them in this sale.

TERMS & CONDITIONS
All billed accounts are due within 10 days following the date of the sale. At 10 days, a 2% service charge will be added to the unpaid balance and an additional 2% will be added every 30 days thereafter unless previous arrangements have been made with Waukaru Farms Inc. Insurance: Insurance will be available for your purchase at the sale through Harding & Harding. Let the clerks know of your needs at the settlement desk.
Genetic Defects: All bulls selling are free of any known genetic defects.
Health: Each bull will be represented by a valid health certificate. Every animal 24 months and older at Waukaru tests negative for Johnes Disease. All bulls selling are up to date on vaccinations and deworming. Waukaru uses a modified live vaccine. Waukaru will test for trichomoniasis if required by state health regulations.
Breeding Status: All bulls have passed a Breeding Soundness Exam performed by the StockVets.
Semen Rights: All bulls sell in their entirety. Waukaru does retain in-herd semen use on every bull. If Waukaru decides to use any of the bulls, it will collect semen at the Sellers cost at a time that is convenient to the owner and with the best safety and care for the bull. All revenues generated by selling semen would be of the new owners, not Waukaru.
Liability: Each bull will be at the buyer’s risk as soon as sold, but will be cared for by Waukaru for a reasonable amount of time. Neither Waukaru nor any of its employees can be responsible for any accidents, but will make every effort possible to provide for the safety of those attending.
Bidding Procedure: This is a “silent chant” online auction. Bidding will open on all bulls at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 16, 2023. Increment bids of $250 will be accepted on the bulls, $100 increments on the females. Bidding can be executed through www.smartauctions.auction or by calling Toby Jordan at 219-819-4603 or Barry Jordan at 219- 819-0430. Bidding will remain open on all bulls throughout the duration of the sale.
Trucking: Waukaru will make every effort possible to insure safe, convenient, and affordable delivery. Waukaru will share in costs so not to exceed $350 per bull anywhere in USA and ports to Canada and Mexico.

50 FANCY COMMERCIAL HEIFERS
On offer are three runs of commercial heifers that we are really excited to add to the lineup. These heifers will sell in the same format as the bulls on SmartAuctions. They are ready to breed this spring; if the new owner chooses, they can be left at Waukaru to be synchronized and artificially inseminated. For $150 per month, Waukaru will cover all feed, drug, and labor costs and provide semen on any heifer safe sires in the Waukaru bull battery.
Group A is from Dave Mooney of Lebanon, MO. They are born October through November of 2021, so they have an age advantage over the other cattle. This group of black females are Angus sired out of Shorthorn/Hereford dams. Dave Mooney is discerning and thorough when selecting bulls of any breed. Angus sons of Cowboy Up, Discovery and Predestined sired the females from Shorthorn dams from sons of Coppertop 464, Orion 2047, Calgary and IMF. The Hereford genetics have all been Line 1 cattle from Oleen Brothers of Kansas. Due to the drought in much of the US last summer and fall, these heifers became available. Though green, when they arrived here at Waukaru, it took no time for them to utilize our existing fescue, crop residues and plant by-products to really take off. This group numbers 20 head.
Group B is from Sproul Livestock in northwest Oklahoma at Isabella. These cattle were born and developed on land that has been in the family since the Land Run of 1893. Sproul Livestock is a commercial cow-calf operation focused on developing high quality replacement females and market topping steer calves. The cow herd is comprised of moderate sized, Red Angus and Red Angus x Shorthorn females who offer plenty of capacity and depth of body. The red sandhills of Major County require cattle to be sound, while the limited rainfall and feed resources demand efficiency. The Waukaru bull genetics utilized have proven to compliment Sproul’s program by maximizing both the maternal and growth characteristics necessary for a profitable operation. This group of 12 heifers are sired by sons of Thermal Energy and Prime Time Teddy.
Group C is a run of 15 heifers from our neighbor, Randy Bulington of Monon, IN. Randy started buying Waukaru bulls over 20 years ago. He has converted his Angus and Hereford based cowherd to Shorthorn by keeping back the best Shorthorn sired daughters. Currently, Randy is using a Prime Time Teddy grandson and it has really worked. The Bulington cowherd summers on mixed fescue pasture on droughty sand and a bit of reeds canary grass in some wet areas. Often the cattle will be supplemented with plant by-products to get to the available cornstalk and rye winter grazing ground.
