Major Project Design Hide the Brightness, See the Light Taking a new approach to lighting city park world wide is the idea of this project, The outcome is to create a pattern book that will provide different ways to light city parks that is a better alternative to what is done in many parks today: using one light pole every few meters to light the path. Parks have zones that should be lit byond the pathway to provide a sense of safety and security to the public using the space at night.

WATER WALL

Light Art & Projection Light Art & Projection Water Wall Stephanie Denholm

This project allows the viewer to be in control of this art in a very temporary and organic way. Light, water and motion combine to create an interactive art installation completed by the viewer walking in and around the space it appears in. The result is an ever changing rippling water reflection on the wall in front of them.

Spatial Lighting Design

Contemplation Place

This project was to create a contemplation space that was designed with lighting as the main consideration. I wanted to create a space with focus, direction and peace for maximum capability to think clearly and have a place that does not distract from the intention of the space. A contemplation space as I interpret it is a place where one can reflect and think about current or past issues, concerns and memories that they may have. The idea of the lighting design in this space also enhances the idea of security to the individuals who use the space. A full scale mock-up was done for a section of the design, the result was light that providing the time to reflect and perhaps not work out how it was ahchieved.

Exhibition Design Rainy Day Project

Working in a multi-disciplinary group, the brief was to create an installation for the Edinburgh Botanical Gardens which would provide phenological data. This meant presenting the public with unique information to each plant to give them idea of what time of year it is dormant, full leaf, budding or fruiting. We developed the idea of making an installation that was at its full potential when it rained, which would encourage more people to come to the botanics on a rainy day. An upturned recycled glass bottle with unique data on it would fill up with rain water and be triggered by an individual which would spurt water out somewhere else. The idea of this was to demonstrate the amount of water the plant has received. Along with this colour light would be used to reflect at what time the plant is at in its cycle. This installation could also be applied indoors as part of a travelling exhibit.
