LOVE’S LABOUR’S LOST

(MORE OR LESS)

Originally by Shakespeare

Adapted by Elizabeth Godber and Nick Lane

Directed by Paul Robinson

A stag do in Ibiza. A hen do in Greece. What could go wrong? Everything…

The stags have made a solemn promise to each other: this is a boys’ weekend. Don’t talk to any girls, don’t even think about any girls and most importantly, do not contact the hens.

The hens are ready for fun in the sun when the resort calls to say they’ve had to relocate them… to a hotel in Ibiza. Both groups of revellers are stuck on the same Mediterranean island. Cue: shoddy disguises, mislaid love letters and theatrical chaos.

Join us for an unforgettable night at the theatre as Shakespeare’s riotous comedy is brought to life in the nineties, featuring belting musical numbers in the era of boy bands and Girl Power.

A brand-new comedy theatre show from the team behind the UK Theatre Award-nominated The Comedy of Errors (more or less).

PRIDE & PREJUDICE

on the novel by

Jane Austen’s most iconic love story is brought dazzlingly to life on stage.

When it comes to the subject of marriage, headstrong Lizzy Bennet is determined to resist the mounting pressures and expectations from society. But can she resist love, especially when the infuriatingly intriguing Mr. Darcy keeps popping up at every turn?!

With sharp humour and sparkling dialogue, this witty stage adaptation brings to life the classic story of love, misunderstandings, and second chances (with plenty of music and dancing). Lose yourself in the world of Regency parties and courtship, as hearts race, tongues wag and passions swirl around the English countryside.

Discover the absurdities and thrills of finding your perfect (or imperfect) match in life, with this vibrant retelling of Austen’s beloved novel, performed by a large cast of immensely talented actors. Join us for this UK premiere production, adapted by award-winning playwright Kate Hamill and directed by the Octagon Theatre Bolton’s Artistic Director Lotte Wakeham.

In the intervening 70 years, we have produced over 660 shows, entertained generations of locals and tourists, continued to embrace new writing and inspired all ages to get involved - more than enough reason to celebrate!

Look out for more birthday events still to be announced!

NOISES OFF

One of the greatest British comedies ever written, Noises Off is a hilarious and heartfelt tribute to the unpredictability of life in the theatre.

Called “the funniest farce ever written”, the show follows the on and off-stage antics of a touring theatre company as they stumble their way through the fictional farce, Nothing On. Across three acts we witness: the shambolic final rehearsals, a disastrous matinee seen entirely from backstage and their brilliantly catastrophic final performance.

We’re delighted to present the first ever in-the-round production of Michael Frayn’s comedy masterpiece.

“The most dexterously realized comedy ever about putting on a comedy. A spectacularly funny, peerless backstage farce. This dizzy, well-known romp is festival of delirium.”

The New York Times

“Stephen Joseph Theatre artistic director Paul Robinson [is] an expert at staging farce kept the right side of chaos.”

EARTH ANGEL

Gerald recently lost his wife of many years. Amy was the light of his life, almost heaven-sent.

It’s tricky thinking about life without her but he’s trying his best to put a brave face on things, accepting help from fussy neighbours and muddling along as best he can.

Then a mysterious stranger turns up at Amy’s wake. He seems like a nice enough chap, washing the dishes and offering to do a shop for Gerald, but is he all that he appears?

Alan Ayckbourn’s 91st play digs deep into one of life’s greatest mysteries – what makes someone a good person? And in this day and age, can you ever really be sure...?

Please note:

Our building has lots of stairs, so do take the lift if it’s easier - use floor 2 for the Round and floor 3 for the McCarthy (if you arrive early and your floor is unavailable, you can wait in our downstairs foyer or in the bar area on floor 1).

Access to most seats involves either climbing or descending stairs - we’ve marked handrails on stairs in red. In the Round, level access to the front row via the stage is often available on request. If you would like advice on seating choices, please contact our Box Office team.
