Frequently Asked Questions Where will I train and how often will I train? Pre-season training will begin in July with three to four sessions a week. During the week you will receive 8 to 12 hours of coaching which will take place during the day. Academy training will take place at Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club. What training will I receive? The Academy will cover all aspects of attacking and defending from isolated practices through to small-sided games, unit and functions of play. You will also receive a programme of individualised fitness training, nutritional guidance and technical analysis. Who will coach me? The football programme will be delivered by experienced FA Qualified and UEFA Qualified coaches under the guidance of the clubs Football Development Manager. Is there a goalkeeping coach? All goalkeepers will receive specialist goalkeeping sessions by an experienced FA Qualified Goalkeeping Coach.

Who will I play for? There are a number of teams playing at different levels. The Head Coach will place you in an appropriate team at the beginning of the season but this may alter depending on your performance throughout the year. We run teams in the British College League and the Midweek Floodlit Youth league. What will I study? All academic studies will take place at Stephenson College. Your study programme is an equally important part of the development programme. We promise to improve your fitness and football skills but we cannot promise to make you a professional football player. With this in mind, it is important for you to be realistic and apply the same dedication to your studies. Previous players from similar schemes have progressed into careers within sports development, sports facility operations, coaching and teaching. The course of study is a two-year programme offering a Level 2 or 3 BTEC Sport Diploma (depending on GCSE exam results). The qualifications will give you a pathway to university or career in the sports & leisure industry. Units include: Principles of Anatomy & Physiology in Sport, The Physiology of Fitness, Risk in Sport, Sports Coaching, Fitness Testing for Sport & Exercise, Analysis of Sport Performance Technical & Tactical Skills in Sport. Can I gain any coaching qualifications? In addition to your main study programme, you will be able to study the FA Coaching Certificate Level 1 and depending on the recommendation from the FA Assessor the FA Coaching Certificate Level 2. What is the selection process? Entry to the programme is dependant on successful interview, football trial and GCSE entry requirements (depending on level of study).
