James M. Stephenson - Concerto for Orchestra www.stephensonmusic.com After performing my Concerto #2 for Trumpet in 2012, the Thailand Philharmonic has initiated a project to commission me to write a new Concerto for Orchestra. The premiere would be next season in their brand new concert hall. I am personally seeking 40 co-commissioners, at just $750 each, to help fund this project. Participants will own forever the score/parts. This is cheaper than a rental would be.

Details: • Instrumentation: *2*2*22 - 3231 - t+3 - hp - str ! 2 flutes (2nd doubling piccolo), 2 oboes (2nd doubling EH),

! ! ! !

2 clarinets (2nd doubling Bass Cl.), 2 bassoons 3 horns in F, 2 trumpets in C, 3 Trombones (2 tenor/1 bass); tuba 3 percussion; one timpani harp; strings

• Length: 30 - 35 minutes

• IMPORTANT NOTE - my plan is to create a 1st movement of roughly 10-12 minutes in length which could serve as a “mini-concerto for orchestra” in case orchestras would prefer to use it as an “overture” on other programs.

• Style:

• I am a deep believer in form and “three-dimensional accessibility”. In other words, the work will be rewarding for listener and performer alike, and will reveal intellectual sustainability for those who dig deeper into the score. I write with this in mind while including current color, texture and orchestrations.

• 50% payment ($375) would be due at time of agreement, with balance due upon delivery. • Score delivery: Materials would be ready no later than September 1, 2014 • Regional premieres: not a key to this proposal, but could be negotiated separately. • Orchestras must be licensed with ASCAP, and will be required to submit programs to ASCAP.

Contracts would be sent out to committed parties, and would further annotate the above guidelines. If interested in knowing more, please contact me. Examples of my music: • • •
