Tuesday Tunes: An Afternoon of Beautiful Music

Victoria Hegewisch and I attended the Tuesday Tunes on April 16th, 2013.

Some of our favorite pieces were Pulled performed by Ava Riley, Skyfall performed by Michelle Lairet, Cups performed by Katelyn Wenkoff and Sarah Steinhour, Better than Revenge performed by Olivia Bacardi, Olivia Byrd, Sloan Cole, and Kyra Wells, and Troublemaker performed by Megan Hoffman, Lauryn Joseph, and Mary Catherine Lorie. We also would like to mention Happy Birthday performed by Victor and Jordi Quirch because it was performed to celebrate their mom’s birthday. It was a wonderful occasion to listen to beautiful performances by many students.

A Day Without Shoes

Mrs. Lopez’s math class hosted “a day without shoes” on Friday April 19 , 2013. The first, second, third, fourth and fifth grades participated in this event. It was in the P.E. field where there were events like hopscotch, dancing, jump roping, soccer and basketball, obstacle course and a trail of twigs, rocks and some mud. All of these activities were done barefoot. In the obstacle course you jumped through hoops, walked on benches as a balance beam, running to the end and running back, and last but not least a competition of two teams, girls against boys. In the trail you walked barefoot on top of mud, rocks, and twigs, to experience what kids in other countries without shoes have to do every day for miles to get to school. The dancing was like freeze dance. Someone was D.Jing the music and then they stopped, but instead of freezing you answered a math question and if you got it right the D.J put the music back on and if you didn’t they let you and the other people try until you and the other people got the math question right. It was very fun and a great experience for everyone.

Boston Marathon Explosion

By Charlie Silva On Monday afternoon, April 15th, in Boston there was a marathon. People from all over the world were joined in the race. When runners reached the finish line, after four hours of running, a bomb exploded on Boylston Street at 2:50 p.m. About ten seconds later a second bomb exploded. Three people died and 176 people were injured. The FBI was lucky to find the third bomb inside a trashcan. The first suspect later got shot in a conflict with the FBI. Suspect Dzhokhar Tsarna got shot on a boat after his escape for several days.

They were both brothers from Chechnya, Russia. Dzhokhar was shot in the throat by a sniper on a boat but when he got shot he called 911 and is now in the hospital. Dzhokhar is in custody but will be sent to jail. The Boston Celtics were having a game against Indiana and it got canceled. The two suspects from the marathon wanted to bomb or detroy another area in the United States. The government wants to add extra protection in the USA so that Americans can be safe.

Margaret Thatcher Dies

By Alec Leyva Margaret Thatcher, the “Iron Lady” of British politics, who set her country on a good economic course, led it to victory in the Falklands war and who helped guide the United States and the Soviet Union through the cold war’s difficult last years, died on April 8 2013 in London of a stroke. She was 87 when she died. Thatcher was born Margaret Hilda Roberts on October 13, 1925, in Grantham, Lincolnshire, in eastern England. She was the daughter of Beatrice and Alfred Roberts. Thatcher became Britain’s Prime Minister on May 4, 1979 and retired in 1992. A conservative leader, her goals included shrinking the government, cutting public expenses, cutting income tax, and fighting against labor unions. Her blunt and stubborn style of politics at first made her unpopular in Britain, which was still struggling after the end of World War II. But she is now known as a great leader. It is sad that Britain lost such an amazing prime minister. The current prime minister is David Cameron.

Minecraft in Real Life?!

Minecraft is coming to life… And it’s causing total chaos… Creepers blowing up homes, zombies attacking innocent people, ghasts blowing up cities! Pixelated sheep, pigs, chickens, and cows have been found where real animals used to be! And some people have already started their transformation into pixelated versions of themselves! Soon enough the whole world will be pixelated!!!! To help you survive, we have some suggestions on how to live: Get ready to only eat cooked and raw cow, chicken, pig, and fish meat. You can also eat apples, baked potatoes, bread, cake, carrots, budder or golden carrots & apples , mushroom stew, and zombie flesh.

Be ready to only have 2 pets: Wolves and cats! Don’t punch or startle. Hit one wolf = every wolf around you tries to kill you…

Prepare to be attacked by zombies, endermen, ghasts, slimes, (in caves and superflat areas) creepers, cave and regular spiders, skeletons, skeletons riding spiders, which is called a spider jockey, Pig Zombies, angry wolves, blazes, villagers infected by zombies, witches, magma cubes, Wither skeletons, and silverfish.

Cut up as many trees as you can! They will always grow back if you use some bone meal (made by putting a bone in a crafting table) on plain old grass! If you are thinking, “Ew! Where would we get bones?” well, it’s kinda easy!

Kill a skeleton! We will tell you how in the next tip!

A simple death trap is putting a few cacti in front of your house. You can only plant cacti 2 blocks apart and on sand, but this trap is not very dangerous towards humans. PS: If you don’t know how to get out of the house without hurting yourself, leave a little space without a cactus.

(Only recommended for adults) You could go in the nether and get golden nuggets and find nether quartz. You could find soul sand too. Soul sand is a sand that slows down mobs and people when they walk on it.

So be prepared for the invasion of the pixels…. You soon will be pixelated! The only rumor of preventing pixelation is worshiping the king of the Nether “Herobrine.”

The Bunnies’ Revenge!

By Jansie Koober, anonymous Spire Crier correspondent The rodents have done it again! Bunnies and hares are mercilessly raiding little children. Lately, a whopping 1,000 children have been found scattered around on the floor. Like last time, I checked Fakerthanadinounicorn and asked a citizen if they were aware of the bunny revolution. “Aye, yah, durr,” he said thoughtfully, after a small pause. “I think mah granddaughtty was attacked, yah. Her bunny, Pwee, started acting mighty scared, yah, then grandaughty took her out. That was the end of her, yah.”

I then went to a local petshop, in fact the very shop that I had visited before. The terrified shopkeepers were screaming as loud as giraffes (I’ve got plenty of them, ladies and gentlemen) and their faces were as panicked as macaroni. Questionably, though, quite a few of the shopkeepers weren’t there. I don’t really need to guess what happened to them.

In the newfound land of Trololpolis, one of the natives was screaming. I was about to ask her what was wrong, but then I noticed 3 fingers missing. And, strangely enough, she smelled like a bunny.

So after getting all of those ideas I want to invent a “TEACHER LISTENER;” it’s a Robot that when you type what you want it to do, it does it for you. Now you might be thinking “what about the teachers that want more time to teach their students?” Well the robot will go to the teacher that has the next class and persuade them to give up their class time. So make sure you buy the TEACHER LISTENER when it comes out.

Once the boys were grown, the fisherman took them out to sea to learn the family fishing trade.
