STEREO AKT 2019 — 2020
2019-2020 THE 7TH SEASON OF STEREO AKT CONTEMPORARY THEATRE COLLECTIVE
The team of director Martin Boross is coming up with a Hungarian premiere this autumn (EUROPEAN FREAKS), and a co-production with the Volksbühne Berlin is planned for the spring. Along with the most popular repertory performances of the last seasons, we are also working on the production of a Promenade short film, the 3rd edition of our experimental concert series ‘Takeover’, a number of international performances and other exciting events in this season! We create in the present for the present, initiating dialogues about communities and the society in general. All of our performances rely on the presence of the audience members. We work along causes, and each issue calls for the setup of a new artistic formation involving collaborators from various fields: theatre, dance, music, sound design, visual and fine arts. For us theatre is an event, audience members are participants. The essence of STEREO AKT performances is born from the – often wordless – dialogue between audience and performers.

EUROPEAN FREAKS (PREMIERE) TRAFÓ HOUSE OF CONTEMPORARY ARTS
If a historian in the future would have to guess the condition of the EU based on the crisis mood of the 2010s, probably the prognosis would not be very optimistic. Is the Europe brand really a bunch of empty slogans, or the feeling of European life has gotten to a downturn? What happened to the European idea? The Eurohumanoids of STEREO AKT strive to create EU 2.0. They organize a focus group research with the help of local citizens in order to understand an average European person’s desires, nightmares and sins. Through their observation we might understand what should be the next move: is it cosmetic intervention, facelift, or reanimation that is needed? Performers: Luca Borsos, László Göndör, Julia Jakubowska, Imre Vass Graphic designer, animator: Zoltán Ásmány
RENEWAL PAINTING /A SOUNDPLAY RITUAL/ TRAFÓ HOUSE OF CONTEMPORARY ARTS
Two brothers are reunited by the death of their father. András és Gergő meet in the inherited flat, to face the mess. Cleaning also brings up a showcase of memories. Holding in their hands their father’s objects and those from their childhood, they can’t help but relive the long-forgotten moments of the family. Memories bubble up in the most unexpected ways: a triggering word, old tunes, loud discussions, silent togetherness, injuries, laughs. Crumbles of memories fill the room and they embark on a borderless journey through time and space. A journey that they wish to follow and resist at the same time. Performers: László Göndör, Dániel Szász Music - sound design: Márk Bartha
LIFEBOAT UNIT−STEREO AKT: ADDRESSLESS /VAGABOND ROLE GAME/ ÖRKÉNYKÖZTÉR
Every day, around two to three people lose their homes in Hungary. Only with huge support, outstanding will, and big luck can help to get out of this situation. The cooperation of Lifeboat Unit and STEREO AKT is an interactive theatrical board game, where we find ourselves standing in homeless people’s shoes. We have to live and survive half a year without any place to live. Performers: Gyula Balog, Mária Kőszegi, Zola Szabó, Réka Szenográdi
MARTIN BOROSS − GÁBOR THURY: LAST CHANCE CLINIC JURÁNYI HOUSE
Would you choose blissful ignorance or painful reality? This utopia reveals the dilemma between those two polarities in a sci-fi theatrical performance. We find ourselves in the most popular Hungarian talk-show in 2021, where a band of radical freedom-seeking militants occupy the television studio in order to address the population, demanding that the people resist the ruling regime’s new ‘Clear Eyes’ program, which aims at isolating the population from what it sees as the more unpleasant aspects of life. Performers: Károly Hajduk, Anna Hay, Julia Jakubowska, Tamás Ördög, Sándor Terhes
GARDEN OF THE PROTECTED MEN JURÁNYI HOUSE
“Male Dancer of the Year 2008 held as a sex slave” “The teenage girls punished the 40 year old ex-diver with a stun gun” “Budapest resident leashed and choked with panties for a week” “The lustful teens were acquitted by court” Three young actresses are creating a performance about an extraordinary case of crime. They are casting men to find the leading actor for the story, but during the creation process things get out of control and it turns out that the innocent-looking theatrical experiment harbours real danger. Performers: Emese Cuhorka, Julia Jakubowska, Mária Kőszegi, Dániel Szász, and also 8 male citizens
