STERLING COLLEGE IS A PLACE... FOR THINKERS
THE MISSION OF THE STERLING COLLEGE HEALTH SCIENCE MAJOR IS TO DEVELOP PRE-PROFESSIONAL STUDENTS WITH THE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES NECESSARY TO SUCCESSFULLY PURSUE GRADUATE STUDIES IN PHYSICAL THERAPY. This interdisciplinary major allows our students to focus their concentration on health, human movement and the prerequisites necessary for entrance into a physical therapy program. Choose Sterling College to help you prepare for a future in physical therapy. The health science major is truly interdisciplinary as it covers topics in science, psychology, math and exercise science. Utilizing professors from each department to form one major gives you the opportunity to learn from professionals who have experience in their field and love their subject.
LEADING WITH A SERVANT’S HEART The health science major teaches students how to be servant leaders each and every day in a health related career. We believe that true leadership must put others first, following the example of Jesus Christ. Just as Christ cared for the physical, emotional and social aspects of the people he came into contact with, we must also care for the entire patient. In the Sterling College health science major, you will be encouraged to look beyond the physical ailment and care for the entire person.
CONCENTRATION PRE-PHYSICAL THERAPY This concentration will prepare students interested in pursuing a career in physical therapy for application to graduate physical therapy programs. In order to practice as a licensed physical therapist, you will have to complete a graduate school program. Our health science major is designed to fulfill the pre-requisites of many graduate physical therapy programs, meaning you shouldn’t have to take classes between your undergraduate and graduate experiences. That saves time and money! If you are interested in another health related field, you will also have the skill set for pursuing other careers.
PRACTICUM EXPERIENCE
Spend time with physical therapists to preview your future career. You will learn the ins and outs of patient care, witness evaluations of real injuries and observe charting practices. Interacting with a practicing physical therapist will also allow you the chance to ask questions about the profession, begin networking and gain advice from someone that has been in your shoes.
