Sing in another language, try a new instrument, play in the orchestra pit of a musical or compose your first concerto. The music majors are offered a lot of opportunities to expand their musical repertoire. From classical to Broadway, instrumental to vocal, we want to help you become an experienced and refined musician, perfecting your craft for the glory of the Lord.
COMPOSER FESTIVAL Students at Sterling College have the unique opportunity to spend a few days every year learning from a working, producing composer. Every fall, the choirs at Sterling College begin practicing music written or arranged by a composer who is known throughout the music industry. What happens next is the chance of a lifetime – perform the music exactly how it was intended as you are directed by the very person whose name is on the sheet music you are using!
CONCENTRATIONS APPLIED INSTRUMENTAL OR VOCAL This concentration prepares students for a variety of career options, most prominently performance and private music instruction. In addition, this degree provides a solid foundation for future work in graduate school.
SACRED MUSIC This concentration prepares students for a career in music ministry. Students will gain the musical skills necessary to be comfortable working within any worship style or ensemble, from contemporary praise and worship teams to more traditional chancel choirs.
EDUCATION LICENSURE Students who want to teach music in elementary, middle school or high school can major in music with education licensure. Teaming up with the Department of Education, we provide the classes you will need to teach any level of music from preschool through grade 12.
A COMMUNITY TO SING ABOUT
The music program builds a rich community among students and faculty. Our professors invest in their student’s performance during one-on-one lessons, in the classroom, and through rehearsals. By the time you graduate, you will know the professors, their families and their favorite musicals. Our professors will know you, your friends and your future plans. You will benefit from the close-knit community as you build friendships, professional networks and lifelong memories.
