STERLITE GRID ANNOUNCED SUCCESSFUL REFINANCING OF

INDIA'S FIRST ULTRA MEGA TRANSMISSION PROJECT, ENICL

Successfully introducing the strategy of recycling capital for refinancing, thereby increasing returns on investment and minimizing the cost of finance, Sterlite Grid continues to progress in the power transmission sector. Sterlite Grid Limited successfully refinanced East North Interconnection Company Limited [ENICL] project loan within three months of the project becoming fully operational in November 2014. The new financing arranged by Axis Bank, consists of a long term loan of Rs. 925 Crores, with significantly favourable terms as compared to the earlier debt. This refinancing is in line with Sterlite's stated objectives of recycling capital for increasing returns on investment. With this transaction, Sterlite has not only achieved reduction of 175 basis points in the interest cost on per annum basis, but also released more than Rs. 150 Crores after repaying its outstanding debt obligations to the existing financial institutions. It is the first inter-state private power transmission asset to get refinanced with such favourable terms, reflecting keen interest of financial institutions in funding power transmission projects with stable long-term cash flows. The East-North Interconnection will generate predictable and stable cash flows for more than two decades. Mr. Pravin Agarwal, Chairman, Sterlite Grid Limited, says "The refinancing arrangement has not only brought down our cost of finance substantially but it has also validated our strategy of capital churning towards growth as a power transmission infrastructure developer. The low risk profile as compared to other segments within the broader infrastructure sector coupled with credibility of our group makes ENICL attractive for the financiers." Sterlite has six transmission projects in its portfolio, out of which, ENICL, India's first Ultra Mega Transmission Project was recently commissioned enabling the northern region to import surplus power from North-Eastern & Eastern Regions. Power System Operation Corporation Limited (POSOCO) identified ENICL project as one of the highest priority projects as it provides critical connectivity for transfer of power from the power plants in the North Eastern region. TECHNOLOGY (4G)

I AM STERLITE

TECHNOLOGY (4G) In the Indian context, Airtel and Aircel have already launched LTE in few cities while Reliance Jio Infocomm and Tikona Digital will be launching 4G services shortly. Most of the other Indian operators are already trailing or will undertake limited trials and pilots in 2015-16. It is expected that in a few years' times the average download speed of 40 to 45Mbps will become a norm. LTE Device ecosystem is also developing at a fast rate. Even in the initial stage, India has around 5.5 to 6 million LTE capable devices and 85000 active LTE users. Presently for India, video contributes to around 40% of 10PB Petabytes (PB) of monthly data traffic against the global average of 55%.Video consumption is estimated to be 65% of 600 PB of monthly data traffic by year 2020. It is believed that 1 smartphone user has potential to put around 45 plus feature phone equivalent load on existing network infrastructure. Are our Indian operators backhaul networks or 4G network infrastructures ready to support such non-linear data growth rates in coming years? This is the big question, which needs to be answered honestly.

TO OR NOT

TO

4G or LTE (Long Term Evolution) is the fourth generation of mobile wireless technology, which is capable of providing higher speed up to 100Mbps under high mobility and 1Gbps under low mobility conditions. LTE is developed by 3GPP body and is well documented in Release 8 and 9.By end of Jan 2015, 360 LTE networks were deployed globally. On a global level,2 LTE networks are getting added every week. Around 500 million LTE subscribers were present as on Dec 2014 which is around 7% of total global subscriber base.LTE adoption is the fastest amongst all previous mobile technologies, LTE adoption was 3 times faster than 3G. LTE is designed to support voice as well as data in the packet domain. It is an all IP network where Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) of service providers is around 20-25% less than 3G.4GLTE technology is much more faster (50% reduction in latency leading to faster set-up times), spectrum efficient than earlier 3G,2G technologies. LTE supports flexible carrier bandwidths, from 1.4MHz up to 20MHz as well as both FDD (Frequency Division Duplexing) and TDD (Time Division Duplex) features. In India, LTE can be deployed using 1800Mhz (Band 3), 2300Mhz (Band 40) and recently auctioned 800Mhz(Band19)spectrum bands.

Fiber connectivity, future-proofs the infrastructure costs not only for 4G but upcoming and beyond 5G type of technological advancements. Incidentally, the cumulative amount of fibre deployed in India today is about 70-80 million kms; meanwhile, China has over 1 billion kms of fibre, as does US. Conservative estimates indicate at least 400500mn kms of fibre to be deployed over the next few years. Increasing fiber penetration will not only comprise laying of the cables during the construction of roads, but also, the right kind of policy framework and right-of-way to make high speed broadband a feasible option to every individual. 4G broadband wireless technologies like LTE have huge potential to address India's broadband gap increase our GDP output and in turn contribute to realize India's Digital vision. Fiber infrastructures are national assets and it’s high time it gets the due respect and treatment it deserves.

Typically all existing operators have moved their core networks to high capacity 100Gbps rates.100Gbps, 40Gbps and aggregation of optical 10Gbps capacities at metro layer is also increasing however the backhaul mobile capacity to support such high data rates is still in nascent stages with respect to fiber connectivity. Operators are still running majority of their backhaul links on microwave where overloading will become a reality very soon leading to more customer churn and coming under competitor's pressure. Ideally very high percentage of enodeB's or 4G base stations need to be fiberised to get an ubiquitous 4G experience. As compared to other developed nations like US and Canada, which have over 90% of their telecom towers connected with high speed fibre optic cables, India has only around 20% of towers that are fiberised and that too in urban areas. Telecom operators and tower infrastructure companies are adopting a cherry picking approach when it comes to tower fiberisation. The access and backhaul networks need a very serious re-look. Backhaul capacity is expected to move to 200Mbps in next 2-3 years time. Furthermore, high capacity and flexibility will be needed in next 5 or more years time once LTE uptake starts increasing. Data usage is addictive, video consumption is not going to decrease, smarthpone users and mobile shipments are only going to increase. 258 million smartphones were shipped in 2014,out of which 73% were 3G capable devices. More and more LTE multiband devices at lower cost are better available now, than a year back. The data demand at every enodeB's will surpass the supplied or configured capacities using microwave technologies. For India to be 4G ready in the true sense, not only is there an urgent need to upgrade the existing telecom infrastructure, but also to overcome this mindset on extensively relying on microwave backhaul instead of fiber connectivity as first option.

CONVERSATION WITH

MR. MANISH AGARWAL

A THOROUGH DISCUSSION ON THE PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE OF THE POWER GENERATION AND TRANSMISSION SCENARIO, THE INTERVIEWEE ADEQUATELY ANSWERS CRUCIAL QUESTIONS TOUCHING VARIOUS EMINENT ISSUES LIKE AREAS OF GROWTH IN THE POWER INDUSTRY, ONGOING POWER PROJECTS, ECONOMICS OF THE TRADE AND TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCEMENT IN THE INDUSTRY. MANISH AGARWAL, VP & BUSINESS HEAD- POWER PRODUCTS & SOLUTIONS TALKS TO POWER TODAY ON WHAT MAKES STERLITE TICK AS A POWER TRANSMISSION COMPANY. 10

1. Transmission and distribution are an integral component of an electrical system. Can you tell us what are the opportunities you see for this industry? And how the market is shaping up? The power transmission sector can no longer be viewed from the prism of generation but as an independent sector with a two-fold objective—setting up bulk transmission lines and improving the national grid. Currently, the thrust is the highcapacity corridors comprising of 400 kV & 765kV lines, HVDC power transmission system, increasing transformer capacity, integration of renewable energy, up-gradation of aged infrastructure and fiber connectivity. This augurs well for integrated transmission companies offering equipment such as High Performance Conductors, Optical Ground Wire, etc. and end-to-end services of transmission system integration. 2. When do you expect new orders coming your way as around 24,000 MW projects will go on the floor, hopefully by FY15 end? And what will be the total requirement for such massive power addition projects? As a thumb rule across the globe, every penny invested in generation has to be invested in transmission. Considering 24 GW of power addition, we will have an investment of at least INR 1,20,000 Cr. (INR 5Cr. Per MW) invested in transmission. This investment will come in both-newlines

and re-conductoring projects that will augment and enhance the capacity of the transmission capability to deliver the powergenerated to the end user. Within the overall Indian market, a surge in overhead T&D conductor demand is expected next year. The annual demand for conductors is now expected to be approximately. 4 Lacs MT in the coming year provided investments and projects happen timely. 3.How about the demand-supply scenario, as power generation companies always blame power equipment players for untimely delivery? How equipped are you, considering future flow of orders? Presently in the context of power transmissions, the conductor industry is on an idle capacity mode. The conductor capacity in India is at least 2-3 times the foreseen annual demand. Sterlite is the pioneer of developing and delivering solutions for efficient power transmission with footprints in over 65 countries for our power transmission portfolio. We have the manufacturing capacity as well as the technology to cater to the growing electricity demand in the country and in-turn, partner India's progress through power. 4. What is the manufacturing capacity and what kind of investment plans have you made for expansion purposes? Is it due to new power projects in offering? Sterlite has conductor manufacturing capacity of over 1,65,000

STERLITE IS PIONEER OF DEVELOPING AND DELIVERING SOLUTIONS FOR EFFICIENT POWER TRANSMISSION WITH FOOTPRINTS IN OVER 65 COUNTRIES MT annually. Our technical expertise and culture of innovation creates strategic value for our customers. We plan to invest in research and development of high performance conductors and other new technologies to be prepared for the technological strides that India envisages to take in the near future. 5. How was the growth of the industry in the last couple of years, and going forward, what will be the growth in next two years? The industry has experienced slow growth, largely on account of prolonged bulge in PGCIL conductor inventory, stalled transmission projects due to land issues, slow clearances, and inability to raise capital. Conductor contracts awards stalled in last two years. With improved rate of commissioning at PGCIL, inventory draw-down has increased significantly. Upswing is also witnessed in other segments of markets for e.g.: several announced projects under TBCB scheme, fast growing renewable energy market with policies and incentives attracting investment, etc. With the new contracts being rolled out, market is expected to pick up in the next two years. 11

6. In terms of market share in India, of entire power equipment market, what will be the share of transmission and distribution market? As mentioned earlier, in the power sector, 50% of the investment is in generation and 50% in transmission and distribution. A typical new transmission line has 40% cost allocated to conductor and hardware, 30% to towers, foundation and labour costs and 30% to substation equipments. The re-conductoring segment will see an increase driven mostly by old lines coming for retrofit. The share of transmission and distribution is expected to be higher with the share for conductor and substation to be further enhanced in the years to come. 7. What are the technologically advanced products available in the Indian market? Tell us about the manufacturing range The segment of technologically advanced conductors is called High Performance Conductors (HPC) which include HTLS and low loss solutions.

AURANGABAD

The existing systems are ageing and many sections are getting overloaded and complicated by Right of Way(ROW) issues. Because of this the market need is slowly but surely shifting to solutions that can utilize the existing towers or ROW enhancing the power capability of the line. This has led to the growth of HTLS (High Temperature Low Sag) conductor segment. The latest technology in the HTLS is the use of ACCC (Aluminum Conductor Composite Core) which was introduced by Sterlite in 2010 and has grown ever since in the segment. The use of high technology materials such as carbon core allows the conductor to carry more than twice the power of an existing ACSR conductor using the existing towers. Apart from ACCC, Sterlite has also demonstrated excellence as an end to end solution provider in other HPC solutions like ACSS and Invar Conductors which have been deployed in India In addition to this, we envisage that the T&D sector will work towards reducing losses in transmission which till date has been focused towards commercial loss reduction leading to development of smart metering and other allied systems. It is now time to concentrate on the technical losses as well. This change will lead to use of conductors which specialize in reduction of losses by around 30%. One such conductor, which is a patented product of Sterlite, is ECOTM. Power transmission and distribution losses (Million kWh) in India were last measured at 222,412 Million Units in 2011, according to the World Bank. To put in perspective, T&D Losses in 2011 costed Indian Economy approximately 1% of GDP. Thus India at policy level and by new initiatives must plan for new lines and re-conductoring by utilizing new technologies like HPC that would help reduce T&D losses and in turn contribute to the GDP of the country at large, in times ahead. 12

“WE MAKE A LIVING BY WHAT WE GET, BUT WE MAKE A LIFE BY WHAT WE GIVE” -WINSTON CHURCHILL

8. What are the current trends in terms of offerings and utilization? The current trends are development and deployment of new and existing technologies ranging from high performance conductors to power monitoring devices and automatic control systems that are gaining traction. 9. Tell us about your current order book position? By what percent you feel your current order book in this space will go up by FY15 end? At the end of Quarter 2, FY 2015, Sterlite has a very healthy order book of Rs 4900 crores split fairly evenly between power and telecom businesses. We are upbeat about the Indian market demand for power conductors especially High Performance Conductors for new lines and re-conductoring needs in the coming times.

Sterlite Technologies Limited (STL) has undertaken varied charitable projects to empower lives in and around Aurangabad and set an exemplary model of social welfare by undertaking various initiatives through the 11 eco-friendly campaigns covered under the project Gram SamrudhiPophala. 4-1, followed by the opening goal from legendary-Pele and the winning goal by Carlos Alberto to lift their third title, thus beating Italy's record of two World Cup wins. Australia continued their dream run from 1999 to 2003 in South Africa, winning their third title and second on trot. Ricky Ponting's brilliant 140 adjudged him the Man of the Match in the final. Ponting was also the leading run-scorer. Brett Lee was the leading wicket-taker with 23 scalps.

The first decade of this millennium saw Australia having a dream run, as they maintained the same attitude, confidence and composure to win ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 in the Caribbean. Adam Gilchrist's thunderous knock of 149 was the highlight of the final, while his fellow opening batsman, Matthew Hayden was the leading run-scorer, followed by Glenn McGrath as the leading wicket-taker and the Player of the Tournament with 26 scalps.

Fourth World Cup wins: Brazil 1994, Australia 2007 Brazil were magical in FIFA World Cup 1994, as they had waited for 24 long years to stamp authority once again. Legendary, Romario was the best player in the tournament.

Fifth World Cup wins: Brazil 2002, Australia 2015 This was another heck of a tournament for Brazil and the most memorable of all, as it was this team, that re-wrote history in Brazilian football and took their game to the next level.

UNDISPUTED CHAMPIONS…

HAVE THE SAME ‘DNA’

AND OF COURSE

THE SAME COLOR! March 29, 2015 saw history being re-written in the field of sports once again, as Australia became the crowned world champions in cricket by winning the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 for a record fifth time. They not just reclaimed the top honor, but also earned the right to be called the 'undisputed champions' after leveling terms with Brazil, who have the same amount of World Cup wins in Football. As the cricketing extravaganza of the year, the eleventh edition of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 in Australia and New Zealand came to an enthralling end, as the co-hosts, Australia won their fifth world title by beating New Zealand by seven wickets at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). The fifth title for Australia is highest in cricket. . The win took Australia at par with Brazil, who too have the same number of FIFA World Cup titles. First World Cup wins: Brazil 1958, Australia 1987 Latin American football powerhouse, Brazil won their maiden FIFA World Cup title during the fifth edition, hosted by Sweden. Australia, on the other hand, won their maiden championship in 1987 during the fourth edition of World Cup, held in India. 32

Australia beat the arch-rivals, England by just seven runs in a nail-biting, thrilling encounter to lift their maiden World Cup trophy. David Boon's impressive knock of 75 and being the leading run-scorer for Australia in the tournament did the trick. Craig McDermott was also the leading wicket-taker. Second World Cup wins: Brazil 1962, Australia 1999 Brazil continued their magical run and world domination in the next edition as well, as they made it two in a row in Chile. Australia, on the other hand, unlike Brazil, had to wait 12 years to grab their second title in the sport, and it came during the 1999 ICC Cricket World Cup in England, which also marked the beginning of the golden era of Australia. Shane Warne's three-wicket haul for 44 was enough as he was adjudged Man of the Match and was also the leading wicket-taker of the tournament, followed by Steve Waugh as the leading run-scorer. Third World Cup wins: Brazil 1970, Australia 2003 Brazil, after having made a 'two in a row' missed out on the 1966 edition. However, it made them come back stronger in 1970 in Mexico. In the memorable final, they faced Italy and made them suffer their worst defeat in a final by a margin of

Australia too had a tough tournament this time. Being the cohosts, they were under a huge amount of pressure to win. But like the earlier 4 times, they reigned supreme.

All-rounder, James Faulkner was adjudged the Man of the Match for his brilliant bowling spell of three for 36. Mitchell Starc was adjudged the Player of the Tournament of his brilliant bowling as he claimed 22 wickets. Thus, going by the records and timeline, both Brazil and Australia have proven their worth and dominance in their respective sport. Their performances have drawn millions of fans from across the world and a lot is expected from these champion teams and there will be more expectations in future. The Yellow fever is truly here to stay. 33

WHAT'S TRENDING!

I AM STERLITE

WHAT'S TRENDING! - In March 2015, telecom regulator Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) released a paper inviting comments from users and companies on how over-the-top services should be regulated in the country, seeking stakeholders' suggestions by April 24, 2015, and counterarguments by May 8, 2015. - In April 2015, Bharti Airtel launched Airtel Zero, an open marketing platform that will allow customers to access mobile applications at zero data charges. - Activists campaigning for net neutrality have started a website called 'Save the Internet', to make it easier for

people to give feedback to TRAI. Thousands of mails were sent to TRAI, to protect net neutrality. - E-commerce giant Flipkart on April 14, 2015, walked away from Airtel Zero as it is committed to "the larger cause of net neutrality". - Bharti Airtel clarified its position saying there is a misconception about its Airtel Zero service. It is not a tariff proposition but an open-marketing platform that allows any application or content provider to offer its service on a tollfree basis to customers who are on the Airtel network.

'NET NEUTRALITY'

DECODING THE

EFFECT!

NET NEUTRALITY IS… Net neutrality means that governments and internet service providers should treat all data on the internet equally therefore, not charging users, content, platform, site, application or mode of communication differentially. WHO BENEFITS? We, the end customers do. WHAT IGNITED THE FIRE? Telecom service provider Bharti Airtel, towards the end of 2014, decided to charge subscribers extra for use of mobile applications like Skype and Viber (these are also known as over-the-top services), which created a lot of uproar and the telco finally stayed its decision. This mind you was over and above the internet subscription rates already paid by you. 34

DIGGING DEEPER… Net Neutrality means giving equal treatment to all traffic on the Net by Internet service providers. Undeniably, discrimination is an accepted way of our life. There exists a much larger constituency of incapacitated consumers, who silently suffer the deliberate denial of neutrality everyday at common places. Savvy Netizens have a way of articulating their points of view. And, they use the social media with sophisticated fineness. The unsung citizens, however, have remained in the realm of obscurity, and their voices are often drowned in the authoritarian assertion — rather imposition — of supremacy by self-styled rule-setters at assorted places in our own neighborhood. These poor citizens have neither the tool (which the Netizens have in the powerful social media) nor the wherewithal to fight the blatant ‘non-neutrality’ that is unleashed on them every time they make a buy. Comprehending the loaded meaning of a sophisticated term such as ‘neutrality’ may be beyond their simple thought

process. Somewhere in their minds, however, they do feel and recognize that they are being unfairly forced to accept discrimination. Yet, they chug along accepting discrimination as a necessary concomitant of life! Perfect competition, as articulated in the classical economic sense, is a non-existent theoretical possibility. Is it really possible to do business in a non-discriminatory way? Reality is replete with innumerable instances where favored treatment, nay discrimination, is a norm than an exception. The Internet Age has thrown a new class system comprising Netizens and Citizens. Thanks to the social media, the Netizens have become a powerful force. And, their collective bargaining capacity is proving to be an effective trendsetting tool. The conventional citizens, on the other hand, are a fragmented voice. The moot point is: Is the Net Neutrality debate a wholesome articulation of an entire class? Or, is it just a ventilation of anger by a new rising class? Reference- The Hindu

BEYOND READING

BOOK Review CRUCIAL CONVERSATIONS

Those skills we must learn. The tough part is that we need to

learn them from people who know them and are able to transfer that knowledge to others. The even tougher part is that there just aren't that many of those people around. So many people live in fear that silences, their voice or causes them to silence others. That's where ‘Crucial Conversations’ comes into play. The book itself defines a crucial conversation as one where opinions vary, the stakes are high, and emotions run strong. If we consider any of the meaningful areas in our life – whether personal or professional, it's easy to see that the most important parts frequently entail these types of conversations. If we are interacting with people and we care, we need these skills. This book is essentially a how-to manual that helps the reader diagnose conversations that aren't going well, learn the reasons why this happens, and, most importantly, learn the tools of effective dialog. The tools are easily understood and explained with multiple sample conversations. This is material that you can't read just once and master. Each tool takes time to incorporate into our own conversation toolbelts – it takes practice and reflection. And this is where this book scores above the others! It communicates effectively and lucidly.

Two of the most valuable concepts in ‘Death by Meeting’ are the ideas of content and drama. Throughout the book,

are we to do? Meetings: can't live with them; can't live without them!

Lencioni uses the metaphor of TV to describe meetings. When it comes to content, most of us make mistake of trying to combine dissimilar types of content in the same meeting.

Into this dilemma comes Pat Lencioni's ‘Death By Meeting: A

follows a similar format. A brief fable is told about a manager struggling with meetings and discovering the principles of making them effective. As with all of Lencioni's work, the content is very accessible, easy to grasp, and can be implemented quickly. ‘Death by Meeting’ can easily be read in one or two sittings.

Lencioni advocates clearly separating different meeting types by content and purpose. I have personally found this to be a vital principle in holding effective meetings. A second important idea in ‘Death by Meeting’ is the need for drama. Drama doesn't mean needless hand wringing or conflict. What it does refer to is the need for vigorous

Lets understand why this is such an important topic. None of us are born with the knowledge and skill to have meaningful and productive conversations – especially when the subject matter is difficult and emotions run high. The dialog skills we are born with might keep us alive, but they do not help us thrive, grow close with others, and work together to accomplish dreams. 36

Meetings are maligned almost as frequently as doctors and lawyers. Just about all of us have suffered through horrible meetings that can range from a pure waste of time all the way to destructive and relationship ending. And yet, we are social beings. We need to exchange
