Learning Objectives and Technical Requirements Upon completion of this hand out you will have an understanding of the steps needed to do a PowerPoint presentation with voice-over.

Software •

Step One: Create Your PowerPoint Presentation 1.

Create a Slide Presentation inside PowerPoint Click on the Slide Show Tab Click on Set Up Show Select the radio button Browsed by an individual (window) This will make the slide show open in a new window.

Click OK Once you have completed your presentation click File>Save as Movie PowerPoint will save your presentation as a movie to the location you selected.

Step Two: Recording the Voice-Over in QuickTime 1. Open the movie presentation in QuickTime 2. With the movie open click File>New Screen Recording 3. With the screen recording window open click the down facing arrow on the right side of the box and set up you microphone.

4. Click the Record Button 5. You are now recording everything in your open presentation window.

6. A message will appear telling you to select the screen you want to capture. Click and drag a selection around the window that contains your presentation.

7. Now simply click the play button on your presentation and start your narration.

Click the pause button on the presentation to stay on a particular slide as you are talking…click play again to allow the presentation to continue to the next slide in the movie.

8. When you have completed your narration go back to the Screen Recording window and stop the recording by clicking the Square Stop Button.

9. Your new movie will now save and open so you can preview the contents.

10. Click File>Export and save your movie to your preferred location.

Step Three: Trim Your Movie’s Starting and Ending Points.

If you notice a little bit of empty space at the beginning and end of your movie; it’s really easy to trim off…here’s how: 1. Open the new presentation that contains the voice over you just created.

2. Click Edit>Trim 3. Simply drag the Start point to the right to trim off time at the beginning of the video and then drag the ending point to the left to trim time off the end of the move.

4. Test you trim by pressing the play button. If you are happy with the results simple press the Trim button.

5. You presentation will save and you are ready to upload it to your desired internet location.

Step Four: Converting to MP4 to save server space Download the open source application Handbrake from www.sourceforge.net/projects/handbrake 1.

Open Handbrake Select the source (the movie file you just created.

Select a destination for the mp4 version of your movie Make sure the output format is set to MP4 Click Start That’s it…your MP4 is saved and ready to put online.

Step Five: Share the Video Online You have several options: • Blackboard: Upload the video to an Online@UT/Blackboard course site. The file size must not exceed 50 MB. o In your Online@UT course site, navigate to a content area where you want to post the video. o To create a link to the video:  Select Build Content > Item.  Type the name of item in the Name text field.  Under Attachments, click on Browse My Computer to upload the video file from your computer.  Submit.

The link to the video should be displayed. When students click on the link, the video should play in their default media player. o To embed a video on a web page:  Select Build Content > Item.  Type the name of the item in the Name text field.  In the upper right corner of the Text window, the Text Editor button should be set to On. If you see Off, press the toggle button.  Now that you see the three lines of Text Editor tools, click on the 4th button of the 3rd row (Add Quick Time file).  Select the file on your computer.  Set width and height to the dimensions that you used to create the wmv video, for example width - 640, height - 480.  Submit.

The video will be embedded on the web page.

• Upload the video to YouTube or other social media sharing sites. Visit http://support.google.com/youtube/?hl=en for help.
