2020 VIRTUAL SEASON PROGRAM

Welcome!

Dear TFO Family, Welcome to the first-ever Virtual Taneycomo Festival Orchestra! We’re thrilled that you’re joining us in spite of all the crazy stuff happening right now. Of course, we wish we were all in Branson making music together, but we’re happy to bring some wonderful music to you nonetheless! As you enjoy the free, virtual concert series, I hope that you will consider making a contribution to the in-person future of the TFO. Next year (2021) will be our 10th anniversary season, and we are planning something big. As you can imagine, we’ll need all the help we can get, and every contribution helps! Donations to the Taneycomo Festival Orchestra are tax-deductible, and they allow us to bring high-quality classical music to your community year after year. We miss you all this year but thank you for joining us online. We can’t wait to see you all in-person in 2021 for our 10th Anniversary Season! Larkin & Patti Co-Directors

He is devoted to his family and craft in pursuing a future full of musical experience in the Springfield metro area.

Viola

Nate Bliton plays the viola and loves making recordings of wonderful music. While his primary education is in music composition (holding M.M. and B.M. degrees in Music Composition from Michigan State University) he is equally passionate about circus arts, extreme sports, and designing interactive electronics for music, theater, dance, and other installations. These days he works at Grand Valley State University on the West side of Michigan for their department of Music, Theatre, and Dance. Nate is a founding member of TFO and works as the Recording Engineer for the orchestra. A native Texan raised in the greater Houston area, Tyler Chen started playing viola at the age of ten and eventually developed a passion for orchestral music and the community around his music program. He eventually arrived at Baylor University, where he is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Music Education. After graduation, Tyler is considering several options which include becoming a school ensemble director, freelance performer/teacher, or graduate student in conducting. In his free time, Tyler likes to read, cook, run, and watch movies. Peter Dutilly, viola and TFO performer in 2013, 2014, and 2019, is currently completing a oneyear appointment with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra. For the previous five seasons he has been a core member of the Orlando Philharmonic and performs regularly with the orchestras in Naples (FL), Memphis, Brevard (FL), Valdosta (GA), and numerous other ensembles throughout the southeast. Also an educator and composer, Peter has recently become more serious about

orchestral librarianism, and has served as Assistant Librarian with the Orlando and Louisiana philharmonics and worked in the libraries of the Jacksonville and Memphis symphonies. Dr. Dilek Engin-Stolarchuk is from Istanbul, Turkey and is playing with the TFO for the fifth time since 2014. Dr. Engin earned her B.A. Degree from Istanbul University State Conservatory and her MM from Marshall University. Her primary instrument is viola and minor violin. She is an adjunct professor at the College of Music at Michigan State University in Summer semester. Cello

Liz Copeland currently serves as the orchestra director at Leawood Middle School and Leawood Elementary School. She performs regularly in Kansas City with the KU Medical Arts Symphony and Midwest Chamber Ensemble. She also substitutes with Springfield Symphony and Symphony of Northwest Arkansas. During the summer, she enjoys playing with and has served as principal cello with Taneycomo Festival Orchestra in Branson, MO. She holds her bachelors and masters degree in cello performance from the University of Missouri - Columbia. When not playing or teaching music, she enjoys cooking with her husband, Sam, and taking walks with her dog, Banjo. Amy Fear is a cellist, and a recreational bassist, a fan of aged gouda, shishito peppers, and red wine, and a previous TFO participant. Her years as an orchestra teacher, high school Director of Orchestras, and regular orchestra and ensemble performer did nothing to prepare her for the current absence of audiences and collaborators. Amy’s been diving into cello and bass practice (when she’s not renovating a gourmet kitchen, tending garden and orchard, riding mountain bikes, flirting with guitar and fiddle, and playing with her German Shepherd, Gretchen). She’s thrilled and curious about the possibilities in the new TFO format. A cellist and teacher in Chicago, Roxanne Kieme has enjoyed making music in many different spheres. An active educator and performer in the Chicago area, she currently teaches with Park Ridge Public School District, Merit School of Music, and maintains a private studio. She holds a masters in cello performance from California State University and a bachelor’s in music education from Michigan State University. A Texas native, Daron Kirsch is active as a cellist and educator throughout the country, and this is year eight at TFO! Since last year, he has completed #100DaysOfPractice, made some really amazing tacos, performed half a great season of chamber music with the Westheimer String Quartet, and played a lot (like, a LOT) of video games. Daron has terrible luck with cars, six toes, a way with words that allows him to pad this bio to exactly one hundred words, four more toes, and the preternatural ability at restaurants to order exactly the thing they’re out of. Wash your hands!

Since the cancellation of traditional classroom teaching, she has been experimenting even more fervently in her kitchen by brewing beer, cooking an octopus, and making various infusions with wild violet flowers. She is looking forward to spending time cooking her garden produce and continuing to make music whenever possible, maybe even in the kitchen. Jim Bartelt retired from Air Force Bands in 2014. Jim holds a Master of Music in Percussion Performance from Florida State. He maintains an active teaching and freelance schedule, and his students have earned acceptances at many top US music schools. Daniel Jarrett is in his 4th year as the Director of Bands of Branson Public Schools, where he oversees the Marching Band, Symphonic Band, Jazz Ensembles, and 7th-12th grade Percussion Program. He graduated from the Conservatory of Music and Dance at University of Missouri Kansas City with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education in 2015. He enjoys performing with and hosting the Taneycomo Festival Orchestra every summer at Branson High School! Kyle Denton is the Director of Worship Arts at First Presbyterian Church and the Director of the Branson Chorale. Kyle has been a percussionist most of his life, but he studied Vocal Music Performance and Music Education in college. Kyle is most known for directing choirs and also for putting on large scale concerts combining community and church choirs and professional orchestra’s together. Kyle was able to experience TFO for the first time last year and is very excited to be back this year. Eric Rodis has been playing percussion for 20+ years in a variety of bands, orchestras, and pit orchestras. He earned his undergraduate from the University of North Texas where he focused on percussion performance and composition and then settled into performing, writing, and teaching in the San Antonio area. Eric relocated to Houston in 2012 and is currently a data analyst for an energy company by day and writes and performs music by night. Jamie Wind Whitmarsh is excited to participate in TFO’s 2020 season. As Principal Timpanist of the Oklahoma City Philharmonic, playing orchestrally is such an important aspect of Jamie’s life. His composition and performance activities collide in his work as the Founder of the Oklahoma Modern Music Collective, a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to bringing the music of living composers to audiences everywhere through performances by Duo Rodinia and Great Plains Percussion Group, with whom he performs, and the Oklahoma Composer’s Orchestra, which he conducts. As a faculty member at Oklahoma City University, he enjoys inspiring the future musical leaders of the world. When Jamie is not working he can be found enjoying time with his amazing wife Lisa and his adorable cats Mario and Bowser.

In Memory Of Americanna Magness Americanna Magness was one of the TFO’s best friends. She was one of the first community members that we reached out to when the TFO was just an idea, and she served as a board member for 9 years. We’ll always be grateful to Americanna for helping us make TFO a reality.

Nancy Dygert

Nancy Dygert played harp for the orchestra during its first two seasons and was a faithful host family for all of the previous 8 seasons of the TFO. We were lucky to have a friend and musician like Nancy Dygert.
