EXTERIOR Towards the end of September, 2011, Architectural Graphics Inc. (Virginia Beach, VA) began the arduous process of fabricating over 275 signs for the Phase 3 Signage Rebranding at regional facilities throughout the Marshfield Clinic system. There are 32 facilities being addressed in this phased effort. This report will illustrate the current production status of the overall project. During October - December ‘11, footings were drilled and poured for major site identification monumentation, resulting on the removal of existing site identity signs at many of the facilities. This was in direct result of a 1:1 replacement effort, requiring the new sign to be placed immediately atop the location of the current Clinic sign. Temporary site signs were installed adjacent to the existing sign, allowing for continued Clinic identity. This advance foundation installation was required to allow proper installation of the necessary footings in temperature conditions advantageous to proper concrete curing as well as reasonable temperatures to work at, versus the anticipated conditions of a hard winter install. We are on schedule for a 96% completion of this Phase by March 31, 2012. To date the following Clinics’ have had the primary monumentation installed: Athens Center Colby Center Cumberland Center Bloomer Center Greenwood Center Menomonie Center Mercer Center Merrill Center (by the end of January ‘12) And so this effort continues...

Scattered around the grounds and adjacent properties of AGI, numerous base steel frame assemblies were noted. They have been given their initial epoxy prime coat and have been mounted to a “carry frame (the rusted steel, top/bottom) which will remain on the structure till delivery.

EXTERIOR The Challenge - Too many signs to deal with at once
DOT (regulatory) signs are required to remain “flat by code, however, the Marshfield informational panels are custom curved to complement the branding program. Custom hardware accommodates ease of mounting, and an attractive rear visual assembly. The signs were everywhere...

EXTERIOR The Redo - Add paint to the mounting hardware to give uniform (rear side) appearance
Acceptance by SN&F required that all mounting hardware would be painted the corporate PMS 208, therefore a team of painters with very small brushes immediately attacked the effort and before noon, all was deemed totally acceptable. They will be crate packaged by project location and on their way during the first week in February.

Paint thickness was reconfirmed for quality and specification compliance. Here the mil. gauge reads 8.57 mils of paint thickness. Matthews Paint requires a minimum of 4.4 mils to achieve 7-10 year paint longevity. (5 coats of paint: Primer/Base Coat (2x)/Clear Coat(2x) all painted at the same time to permit inter-layer bonding.)

Details of the acrylic pushed thru copy. Note the “lip” on the edge of the acrylic letter(s). This allows the lettering to push thru the graphic face and to have a bearing/mounting surface from the rear. The thicker portion of the letters’ edge will be given a flame (clear) polish, enhancing the visual effect of the lettering.

This project requires the production assistance of about 1/6 of the overall staff of AGI. That probably means that the right column of these time cards are dedicated to the production of the Marshfield Clinic Phase 3 Rebranding program....

EXTERIOR Pending Schedule: Much of that which you have just viewed is currently in transit to Wisconsin. I anticipate that during the first few weeks in February (weather permitting), La Cross Signs, Area Signs, Stratford Signs will be receiving their products and organizing their installation crews. Expect the following Centers to receive either all or a majority of their branding signs: Bauman Center (Eau Claire) Behavioral Health (Eau Claire) Chippewa Falls Center Chippewa Falls Dental Center Eagle River Center Lakewoods Center (Rice Lake) Phillips Center Wittenberg Center In production for February ‘12 completion (delivery/installation in early March ‘12): Elk Mound Center Lake Hallie Center Eau Claire Center Woodruff Center Stettin Center (others as time permits) Anticipated for late March ‘12 (delivery either by month’s end or first few weeks of April ‘12): Oakwood Center (Eau Claire) Riverview Center (Eau Claire) Osseo Center Weston Oral Center Clairemont (needs warm weather to paint the exterior of the existing sign) Wausau Oral Weston Center Ladysmith (is on HOLD till further notification) (This is partially due to the required tooling/engineering for the small “residential” sized (Style 32.6) monuments which did not permit immediate production activities. Production pressures have been implemented to try to complete these sites before 3.31.12, if possible.)
Please note: Completion deadlines not withstanding, during this inspection SN&F noted no compromises in quality or workmanship has been taken from that originally produced for Phase 1 effort! Weather conditions will be the only factor which might cause an installation delay.
