Steven T. Putt Since childhood I have had a passion for the built environment. Being a student of architecture at Ball State University’s College of Architecture and Planning has helped me develop that passion into practice and understanding. Despite the endless toil involved with studio, I love what I do in school and I look forward to learning more about architecture every day. When I am not in studio I enjoy cycling, playing guitar, making friends and spending time with my fiancée, Kayla.

CAP Redesign Spring 2012 Professor: Pam Harwood Project Description: Work as a team to redevelop the University Green. Major objectives included physical connections between CAP, Whitenger Building, and Bracken Library, as well as developing a design that gives identity to the space. The new College of Architecture and Planning building has been reprogrammed and renovated from its former self. Additions to the building extend from a once isolated footprint in order to interconnect movement across the university green. The essence of the sloped envelope on the south facade is captured by its reinvention through a vertical glass curtain wall with a layered louver and wire scrim skin. The energy of the building that can be captured through design build space and review galleries is now in prime locations for visitors to experience as they move thorugh the college. The College of Architecture and Planning is given a new identity that exemplifies the quality education it offers.

Project Description: Create a museum that hosts an embodiment of Indiana’s culture. Site was located along the canal in downtown Indianapolis. The Indiana Culture Museum is a center for experiencing convergence. Starting with site, the museum converges areas by reaching the extents of the land with three buildings. Those buildings are then introduced to bridges which converge the three buildings into one. The use of moire patterns, which are made possible by the convergence of two groups of lines, are used as the building’s prime aesthetic focus by creating a reval pattern in the prefabricated CMU’s that make up the facades. Green design converges itself with the design criteria with the introduction of a living roof and a daylighting system. This driving force on design even extends itself to the landcape where lawns become built architectural features and orient themselves towards a center. More importanly, the museum converges the many different components of Hoosier culture into a single architectural experience.

Project Description: Explore and create a building and program of one’s own choosing. The Computer Mediated Reality (CMR) Spa is a place where the user can come to escape our reality as we know it and replace it with another. Users of the CMR Spa experience their stay in three steps: selection of environment, simulation, and coordination & reflection. Virtual environments are experienced through the CMR module for a set length of time. After simulation, the user moves to another room for coordination back to our own reality and reflection on their experience.
