Virgin Internal Communications Competition brief to create a visually interesting set of three stories for a staff communication piece to explain the brand values of Virgin. Requirement was to produce a finished product/mock up for one story and concepts for the other two. I won a silver award for my solution.

Research & InfoGraphics

To inspire insatiable curiosity I researched the data from one Virgin territory and translated it into something out of the ordinary — the intention to show the achievements of Virgin in a different interesting way which also communicates the Virgin ‘out of the box’ feel that I came across whilst looking into the company.

2 1 – The solution is intended to work in large scale in a canteen/staff area. This is an economical way to produce the story as it need not be re-produced for each staff member. 2 – For Virgin premises that cannot accommodate the large scale graphic the story can adapt to a flip style booklet showing each element of the graphic in a linear fashion.

3 – A web solution is also envisioned allowing a wider audience reach and an element of interaction with click and reveal for the information.

My Brand Identity A self-initiated project to create an identity that reflects how I see my design practice. An identity that works across multiple formats producing a sense of unity amongst these varying formats.

Branding & Logo Design

The concept of the logo design is to show that I am a versatile designer. I chose to use CMYK, RGB and monotone colour blocks in the logo to represent my experience in print, screen and hand drawn work. I aim to express all of these elements coming together by the blocks coming together as one. I chose to use two typefaces in my name as it represents my experimental side — the slanting of my first name also works well when positioned next to the logo due to the slanting effect of the right hand side of the logo. I chose the strap line ‘BIG IDEAS simple solutions’ as I feel that a lot of my work uses simplistic shapes but has resulted from multiple trials and ideas.

Portfolio Website A website that I designed and coded using Adobe Dreamweaver, CSS and HTML. My aim is to create a consistent, usable and accessible site that showcases my graphic design work in a clear way whilst using my brand identity.

Web Layout Design & Coding

I designed the site so that it would work in multiple devices, including mobile phones and tablets. I also tested on different platforms and different browsers. I took into account my target audience will mainly be design agencies and companies so used quite large resolution images.

Life Publication A publication examining the facts and theories surrounding extraterrestrial life. Produced both digitally and in print. The book was inspired by the BBC Radio 4 programme In Our Time.

Between The Lines — Short Film BA (Hons) Graphic Design UCA Final Major Project 2014 — Using motion photography to show the entire tube network, I aim to show the dynamic nature and aesthetics of everyday journeys that may be missed in the stress and strain of regular commuting. http://vimeo.com/90742222

Motion Photography, Animation & Editing

Shot with a time-lapse of 25 seconds, each line journey starts at the same time. As the journeys are relative to real time they come to an end in the correct order of journey length. As each line comes to an end the carriage empties and the details of each line identity becomes frozen allowing the viewer to see the differences between each line.

Between The Lines — Publication BA (Hons) Graphic Design UCA Final Major Project 2014 — A 56 page publication that accompanies the short film Between The Lines. Produced both digitally and in print.

Photography & Publication Design

The publication is intended to allow the viewer to absorb some of the details from the film — the different designs and colour system evident on each line, as these details pass quickly in the film.. Designed to be like a journey through the tube, with entry gates, escalators and various other aspects of everyday journeys, captured to create a feeling of direction and movement.

The final part of the publication shows a still from each carriage highlighting the aesthetics and design codes for each of the different lines.
