St. Francis Elementary School Site 763-213-8674 Kids Connection is a comprehensive childcare program offered at Cedar Creek Community School and St. Francis Elementary School. Kids Connection provides a safe, fun and nurturing environment for children kindergarten through 5th grade. During program hours, a wide variety of recreational and educational activities are offered that may include arts and crafts projects, dramatic play, science, language arts, gym activities and outdoor play. Kids Connection also offers a 4-year-old childcare program (Just 4 Kids) at St. Francis Elementary School. Children will participate in various educational and recreational activities in a safe, well-supervised environment. Program hours are Monday-Friday, 6:00 am–6:00 pm.

Activities and clubs are offered to District 15 students grades 6-12. These activities are offered after school or evenings and include (but not limited to): high school and grades 7-8 Ski/Snowboard Clubs, SFHS Performance Dance Team, Junior Dance Team, SFHS Trap Club and Karate. Activities are coached, instructed or chaperoned by qualified, skilled adults.

These leagues, classes and camps run mainly in the evenings utilizing Independent School District 15 buildings and fields and are coached by parent volunteers. The programs offered teach fundamentals and teamwork and are an excellent way for children to try a new sport in a relaxed, non-competitive environment.

Jenny Dupre, Manager 763-753-7196 ECFE is a place where parents and young children, from birth to age 5, learn and play together and can meet other families with young children. District 15’s ECFE program believes that all families deserve support, information and opportunities to be involved in their children’s learning. No one will be denied participation in parent/child sessions due to inability to pay. A sliding fee scale is available.

Early Childhood Screening Early Childhood Screening is a free, simple check of a young child’s health and development. The program connects parents and children to early childhood programs and community resources and answers parenting questions. Screening should be done soon after the child’s third birthday and is required for public school attendance. Located in the Lifelong Learning Center.

Preschool Place 15/ School Readiness This program is for families with children age 3 to kindergarten. Preschool Place 15 provides a safe environment where young children of all abilities can grow and experience success and their parents can be partners in learning. The program addresses development in all areas with particular attention to early literary and social skills. Located in the Lifelong Learning Center.

The ABE program is held at the Lifelong Learning Center and includes adult diploma, English as a second language, workforce preparation, basic skills enhancement, citizenship education, test preparation, college preparation, General Education Diploma (GED) and resumé writing workshops.

Its purpose is to provide opportunities in the arts for residents of northern Anoka County. Classes, such as stained glass, are held at the Sandhill Center. The St. Francis Area Book Club and Artist Group convene at Sandhill once a month. Join the Lunch Bunch at the Sandhill Center in the Bethel Cabaret for a monthly catered luncheon featuring top entertainment by popular artists.

Czech Kolaches Kolaches are one of Czechoslovakia’s national pastries. Immigrants brought their passion (and recipes) for kolaches to the Midwest as early as the 1860s. Kolaches are marvelous egg-rich, slightly sweet yeast dough. Traditionally filled with fruit mixtures such as apricot, cottage cheese, poppy seed or prune; they can be shaped into small rounds, square-tied packages, or filled turnovers. Trips &Tours Outside Mullingar

General Interest Crochet a Granny Square

Spend your Sunday afternoon at the Old Log Theater! We will dine in the Old Log Dining Room; please select a beef, fish, chicken or vegetarian entrée when registering. The theater performance is “Outside Mullingar” is a delightful, compassionate play about how it’s never too late to take a chance on love. It’s kind of an Irish Moonstruck! Join the fun on this early Valentine’s Day outing. We will travel with our friends from Braham on a deluxe motorcoach.

Learn to make the timeless Granny square. Once you learn how to make a granny square you can make baby blankets, scarves and more. The possibilities are endless. Familiarity with the chain and double crochet stitches required. Bring a size H crochet hook, two different color skeins of yarn and a scissors to class.

Made in Minnesota We will travel to Glencoe where the day begins with a cup of coffee and a treat at the Mohr Family Farm where we will tour the studio of well known rural artist Bonnie Mohr. Next the tour is off to Bongards Creameries retail store where you can purchase fresh cheeses and dairy products if you wish. Note—you may want to bring a small thermal cooler bag to keep your purchase fresh. A soup and sandwich lunch will be served at Lola’s Lakehouse overlooking beautiful Lake Waconia. A hostess will give us an introduction of the estate when we arrive at Sovereign Estate where those interested may enjoy their signature wine tasting. Participants of this tour must be 21 or older. Write Your Own Will If you were to pass away unexpectedly, would your wishes be carried out? Who would coordinate the probate for your estate? Who would be the guardian of your children? To whom would your assets be distributed? This class will help you answer these questions while drafting a basic will with guidance from a licensed attorney. This class is appropriate for you if the total of all of your individual assets is less than one million dollars (including real estate, life insurance and retirement assets). A married couple must complete individual wills. You will leave class with a legal and effective will. Welding, Machining, Fabrication This course is designed to provide an educational experience for novice to intermediate metal workers. All participants will have a short safety demonstration followed by a test. Upon successful completion of the test, participants will be able to work in the lab. Participants may fabricate a project or receive training in a specific area as instructor time permits. The lab has the following equipment: Miller TIG, MIG, Arc and spot welders, oxyacetylene equipment, manual lathes and mills, Master CAM, a CNC plasma cutter, benders, hand tools and painting equipment. The registration fee includes consumable supplies; any additional materials used are the financial responsibility of the student and must be reimbursed to the instructor at class. Class is catered to the needs of the group, and may be both lecture and individualized instruction, depending on the needs. General Interest Dancing for Beginners

You’re invited to bring lawn chairs to make yourself comfy! Make the stars your old friends as we watch the great celestial show in the skies over St. Francis. We start off with an indoor orientation followed by quality time outside under the heavens. Get to know the constellations like The Big Bear, Gemini the Twins, Leo the Lion, and some of their great stories behind them. We’ll also use two large telescope that are among the biggest mobile telescopes in Minnesota for close up views of the planet Jupiter, star clusters, nebulae, galaxies and other wonders in our early winter/spring skies. You’ll also get a great handout package with user-friendly star maps and constellation charts, websites, a telescope-buying guide, and more!

Both newcomers to dance, and prior attendees, are sure to have fun in this newly designed course! Learn steps in swing, hustle & other social dances to have you dancing at weddings, parties, clubs, cruises and more! Learn to dance to music from the 50s through today & commonly played at all social gatherings, from rock-n-roll and pop music, to rhythm & blues and country. Mike Lynch is a meteorologist at WCCO Radio and has been hosting star watch parties and teaching astronomy classes for over 40 years. ZAPS/RMASS Educational Seminars has developed a new seminar to assist high school students and help them prepare for the ACT. Participants gain valuable insight into the ACT through a close examination of each type of question. The seminar teaches students the strategies necessary for attacking the types of questions the new tests will cover as well as providing general testtaking tips. It also provides suggestions for post seminar test preparation. Doing well on the ACT is important and is often used as a requirement for gaining admittance to college. St. Francis High School Trap Club • Trap club is a spring sport—watch for registration in February. Open to SFHS students grades 9-12.

This course is designed to provide an educational experience for novice to intermediate metal workers. All participants will have a short safety demonstration followed by a test. Upon successful completion of the test, participants will be able to work in the lab. Participants (grade 10-adult) may fabricate a project or receive training in a specific area as instructor time permits. The lab has the following equipment: Miller TIG, MIG, Arc and spot welders, oxyacetylene equipment, manual lathes and mills, Master CAM, a CNC plasma cutter, benders, hand tools and painting equipment. The registration fee includes consumable supplies; any additional materials used are the financial responsibility of the student and must be reimbursed to the instructor. District-Wide Youth Activities After School Karate In this course, students will be instructed in non-aggressive, non-counter striking self-defense techniques and in safety awareness. Instructors are certified Black Belts trained in Run, Yell, Tell and Stranger Danger curricula. At the conclusion of the course, beginners are eligible to earn the certified Yellow Belt; ranking students can earn advanced belts. For ages 5 to 16. Parents of students participating in class are welcome to register also. CODA Tuesday, March 10 CODA is a saxophone/keyboard duo, consisting of Scott Dorff on soprano, alto and tenor saxophones and Malcolm Anderson on piano/keyboard. This duo is in its 17th year of performing live for thousands of people in many diverse venues. Red Johnson, Minnesota Rock & Country Hall of Fame recording artist, has pleased audiences for over 50 years with his singing and song writing skills. His style is traditional country and western music with a blend of bluegrass, Tex-Mex, Cajun and gospel. Red Johnson covers the realm of real country music.

The Gracenotes Trio love to sing old favorites from the 1930s and 40s for parties, church events, receptions, conventions and seminars. In addition to their Andrews Sisters–Big Band style programs, they have added some great songs from the 50s and 60s that appeal to all ages! Their message is positive and upbeat and their programs all include some level of audience participation.

Boxcar Bob Tuesday, May 12 “Boxcar Bob” Selby has been singing since junior high school and has sang in a variety of genres including: male choruses, country, folk, fifties rock & roll and even some light opera. He has been singing with “The Cowboy and Hobo Show” along with “Cactus Willie” (Charles Casterline) and “The Drifter” (Wil Kelly) for the past seven years. The band has four CDs to its credit with some of the tunes written by Boxcar Bob. For this performance Boxcar will be teaming up with JoAnne Lee, a very accomplished musician, guitar and bass player and teacher. The Drifter will be playing bass for this show and adding his wry sense of humor, all in all this promises to be a great show and one to look forward to hearing a variety of music.

Introducing the 4-year-old childcare program for the 2014-15 school year!

Beginning the first day of school, September 2, Kids Connection will be offering a 4-year-old childcare program (Just 4 Kids) at St. Francis Elementary School. Children will participate in various educational and recreational activities in a safe, well-supervised environment. Children may bring a lunch from home or purchase a school lunch. Ask for details. Program hours are Monday-Friday, 6:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. Contracts are now available.
