We are living in unprecedented times – this is not business as usual! There is nothing more certain in life right now than change. Change is the only constant that you can count on as a business owner. Nobody wants our economy to suffer, nobody wants to go bankrupt, and nobody wants to see businesses fail. During these times of lock down we’ve had to change the way we conduct business. The businesses that are flexible enough to adapt when times or circumstances change, those are the ones who survive. We are seeing businesses adapt to these changing times, by selling their products online rather than at their retail shops, offering takeout and delivery instead of dine-in, or making video tutorials. Thinking of different ways that you can conduct business will help keep you alive, and especially leveraging digital technology will make all the difference. This being said, Info Ads will be published digitally for now and we’ll see how it works for advertisers and readers in the future. Times are tough already for most business owners and for most South Africans, as we brace for and ride out this pandemic storm. I sincerely wish all of the business owners the very best and hope that we see each other on the other side. As always, if there is anything I can do to help, please ask - I’m still here, working remotely, and am happy to help in any way I can. If you have a business or a service you’d like to advertise in the next edition of Info Ads - be it a print or a digital edition, send me an email and I’ll send you all the details. Until then, stay safe, stay home, stay positive and stay productive!

These are trying times for sure, but it’s not all doom and gloom, and there are even positives to be found in an enforced stay at home. For gardeners this is a golden opportunity to get into the garden and crack on with some much-needed horticultural therapy. Our gardens are never going to look better! In the days leading up to the lockdown, we sold loads of herb & vegetable seedlings so we can’t wait to see how they’re looking. Go to our Facebook page and tell us what you’re doing in the garden to pass the time and share your photo’s with us. If you need any advice, feel free to ask any questions and we’ll try help best we can.

ECO-CONCIOUS HANDWASHING DURING COVID-19 PANDEMIC We must not forget that we still have a water crisis. We need a way to handle the virus problem that doesn’t make the drought crisis worse. To shed some relief, we have just received news that the Kouga Municipality has arranged for additional water to assist in our water crisis, which many of us have seemed to have forgotten about. Thanks must go out to Kouga Municipality, The National and Provincial Departments for supporting our area. Over 400 JoJo tanks and 3 water tankers which will fill the JoJo tanks will be rolled out this week starting off with 102 tanks that have already been delivered to our fire station for delivery to Sea Vista. Gamtoos and Ocean View have also been identified as requiring urgent additional water supplies. Health experts around the world agree. Regular hand washing, with soap for a minimum of twenty seconds, is the most effective way of preventing the spread of Covid-19.

HERE ARE SOME TIPS FOR ECO-CONSCIOUS HANDWASHING • Use cold water. You don’t need to run the tap till it’s hot • Put the plug in the sink and use the same water for several hand washes •Don’t leave the tap running while you soap your hands. Switch on, wet hands, switch off, soap hands and rub them together, back and front, for twenty or more seconds, building up a good lather. Rinse hands in the water caught in the sink, then dry. • You can even put a small plastic bowl in the sink to catch the water and then use it for household cleaning - toilets, for example. Let’s not forget the environment’s health even in humanity’s health crisis. The Kromme Enviro-Trust wishes you all safe during these difficult days.

ST FRANCIS ANIMAL RESCUE IS DESPERATE! St Francis Animal Rescue (SFAR) is independent of the SPCA and relies solely on donations. What's left in their bank account now, is reserved for the medical treatment of animals and it is running low. SFAR have been unable to arrange any fundraising events during the lockdown, and probably for the foreseeable future, and despite this, haven't stopped working. They continue to feed 400 dogs and dozens of cats twice a week. In addition, they transport ill or injured animals. Every penny donated to St Francis Animal Rescue goes to the welfare of the cats and dogs of Sea Vista with all the volunteers contributing their time and even the travel costs for no reward other than the reward of caring for the communities pets.

CAN YOU PLEASE HELP THEM WITH A DONATION OF R50, R100 OR ANY AMOUNT? Bank deposit details are as follows: St Francis Animal Rescue Standard Bank (050 015) | Account No 186 532 814 | Swift Code: ZBZAZAJJ For a quick link to a Paypal donation option, and for more info, please visit their website: https://www.stfrancisanimalrescue.org/have-a-heart/

PERSEVERANCE, PARTICIPATION, PUBLIC SUPPORT, AND POSITIVE COMMUNICATION! The St Francis Links TEAM has not slowed down! At St Francis Links we employ more than 90 people, many who are responsible for their families and others. Keeping them paid and employed going forward is our number one mission. We also have more than 400 people living on the Estate, most who also employ full and part-time staff. They, too, want to keep them employed and paid. But that cannot be the case for most who earn a living here. Liezl, my wife (and boss), is part of a great team of volunteers called DVG (Disaster Volunteer Group) who formed in response the major res that were experienced over the past years from the Canals to Cape St Francis. It was a “natural” shift to develop strategies to help the needy when the virus shut down the country. Over the past weeks, along with members of Rotary and the local church, aided by providers like our SuperSpar, Balobi Fisheries, John and Lesley Davies, Woodlands Dairy, Smhart Security and our local SAPS to provide parcels for more than 1600 families to date! The process has been nearly awless with social distancing in place and orders lled through a voucher system.

Back at the Links, Senior Management including our Golf Professionals and our Head Chef, have tended to the course, as it remains our most essential asset. On Tuesdays and Fridays, Sup Charl Blaauw deď€ nes our mowing tasks and off we go. As this was my summer job in high and at University, I was eager to pitch in. Behind the scenes, it's all about drafting new plans to ensure that we remain an integral part of the community and a home and destination for our residents and visitors. This, too, shall pass! We will be ready. Santa

ST FRANCIS COLLEGE NEWS ST FRANCIS COLLEGE STARTS SECOND TERM When all schools had to close on 18 March due to the coronavirus, St Francis College shifted the end-of-term holiday and went into a holiday period. The scheduled date for the start of term 2 was 15 April. During the holiday period it became clear that no schools would be reopening because of the national lockdown. The staff at St Francis College began equipping and preparing themselves to be able to start the term on 15 April with remote teaching. There was much excitement amongst the children, the parents and the teachers as classes started via Zoom meetings and WhatsApp video calls. The school has also been making use of Google Classroom which is an app that allows various types of media, such as YouTube videos, to be added as links which the pupils can then access from home. The teachers have been having staff meetings using Zoom. The Headmaster of St Francis College, Mr Warwick Osmond, said that he was very pleased with the speed with which teachers, parents and pupils have adapted to the new way of doing things. “Within a matter of a week, we have gone from knowing very little about online platforms for teaching to being mostly quite proficient at using them,” he said. The word from the teachers is that their preparation for this form of teaching takes a lot of time and it is keeping them very busy. Photographs and video clips of the children at work indicate that they are having a lot of fun and are certainly learning about technology. All-in-all it has been a positive learning experience, but what can never be replaced is the social aspect of school. “The teachers miss being with the children and their colleagues and the children miss the fun and games with their friends. Although it is necessary for the time being, this is not the way school should be. We are all really looking forward to getting back to school,” Mr Osmond said.

Dear Property Owner SUBSCRIBE NOW, AND R200 OF EVERY SUBSCRIPTION RECEIVED WILL PURCHASE A FOOD PARCEL FOR THE COVID-19 FOOD RELIEF PROGRAM. The St Francis Property Owners (SFPO) Association is a community-based organisation supporting all ratepayers and residents in St Francis Bay. We are deeply involved in supporting the COVID-19 efforts to protect our town. A food crisis is looming, and a COVID-19 Food Relief Program is in place to support those people in our Sea Vista community who have lost their income as a result of the COVID-19 Lock Down. The fund is being organised and managed by the Disaster Volunteer Group, Rotary and United Church. We are giving this program our full support and will donate the cost of a food parcel (R200) for every new or renewed membership subscription received during the crisis. In order for us to maximise our support for the COVID-19 Food Relief Program, we have launched our 2020/21 annual subscription appeal with immediate effect. The voluntary annual subscription for a property owner/resident is R500, or R330 for a pensioner. The SFPO Association membership runs from 1st October to 30th September annually. Both existing members renewing, and new members, will be donating to this important cause, with new members having the added advantage of immediate membership with an additional five months free membership from now until 30th September. ENTERING OUR FIFTH DISTRIBUTION OF FOOD PARCELS - BUT NOT WITHOUT CHALLENGES We are pleased to report that the 5th distribution will take place tomorrow and that we will have gone full circle and are able to start with the very first recipient again. It has taken 2 weeks but we have managed to increase the number of parcels being distributed to 800 for tomorrow. This means that we will have delivered to over 1800 households incl backyard dwellings, South Africans and foreigners. Having said this, we are mindful that the need for ongoing support post lock down will be necessary as job losses loom. Its a fine balance and our planning may see the number of parcels distributed reduce to stretch support funds over a longer period. It's difficult however as a parcel may only last a household 4 or 5 days. Some challenges which we face are identified parcel recipients who have sold their parcels (for apparent drug money) and others who contact employers to say they haven't received parcels when in fact their household has received or they are still receiving an income. In some cases, names are also changed ... so again, we try our best to sift through these grey areas. It is expected that false claims and controversy will always accompany a project such as a large scale food relief programme with some Sea Vista residents claiming that the distribution lists are politically driven or driven by religious affiliations. Fortunately we can pinpoint all addresses that we have delivered to, and where we have had queries, have managed to resolve them. It's important to note that if anyone is receiving an income, they would not receive a parcel. This however excludes SASSA income as most of Sea Vista receives the SASSA grant. Insofar the valuable warriors on the ground in Sea Vista, they are A-political in their duties here, but to lend support to the statements above, they are a mix of constituents of both the governing and opposition parties. Rotary St Francis, St Francis United Church and the DVG who together manage this food relief drive, remain strictly non-political. As we all enter our third week of distribution, we trust that the community of Sea Vista appreciate the incredible giving hearts of donors and volunteers. Thank you.

PHARMACY PROCEDURES DURING LOCKDOWN

in response to the national lockdown, St Francis Pharmacy will be taking some more necessary steps . Please note the following: 1. From Friday 27 March, St Francis Pharmacy will be open from 09:00 to 16:00. It’s a stressful time for all. We need to consider our staff and their families. 2. Deliveries are strictly for those who are confined to their homes (sick or incapacitated) and only for new scripts and chronic medication. The reason for these strict rules are to protect the person delivering medication. Deliveries will only take place at 16:00 3. We will be open on Saturdays between 09:00 and 13:00. No deliveries on a Saturday. 4. We will allow 6 patients into the pharmacy at a time. Please keep a two meter distance away from other patients. 5. Please do not come to the pharmacy if you don’t have to. Let’s protect each other . 6. We will not be opening on a Sunday afternoon for the remainder of the lockdown. Please plan your medication requirements accordingly.

We are asking the community’s assistance during this crisis. We are going to our utmost to give you the same service as usual. Please stay safe during this time and look after yourselves . In order for this virus to move it needs people, by staying in lock down you stop the movement. Lets show solidarity with the rest of the country in this time and fight this together. Yours in health, always St Francis Pharmacy

The Uluntu Project's Talhado Donation 2019 Uluntu Means Community. Through different events during the December holiday season, the Uluntu Project team seek to connect holiday makers with the community in need through fundraising initiatives. In 2019 they benefited from funds raised through three events including a beach cycle, a bowls day and a New Year party. Their goal for the 2019 season was to raise funds in an attempt to help feed all 100 learners at The Talhado Children's Haven for 2020. “We are all part of the broader St Francis Bay community and while many holiday makers visit the coastal town for one month out of the twelve in the year, the town supports a growing Sea Vista community who also call St Francis Bay home. Through working with the community in Sea Vista, the Uluntu Project identifies initiatives that require support and then work to establish events that can be used to raise funds. To date we have been blown away by the generosity and the support that the project has received. The events of 2019 and generous donations from individual's brought us extremely close to reaching our ambitious target of feeding all 100 learners at the Talhado Children's Haven for 2020. We managed to raise R109 000, which was donated to Talhado and has been allocated to providing the learners with meals throughout the year.

AS RUNNERS, HOW DO WE COPE WITH LOCKDOWN? Well, it is what it is, and we have to do this – stay home, people! It's just a fact of life right now. •Make sure your immune system is firing on all cylinders so don't overdo anything. Running long, long distances depletes that for a while. •Start a routine of doing exercises. Do it with your family. It's fun – and bonding. •Set loads of mini goals throughout the lockdown period - trying to run 5km around your garden or climbing the steps to your front door a thousand times – per day or per week to help keep you motivated and excited. Literally, take it all just one step at a time. •Get your running stoke by reading the stack of running books you've accumulated over the years, and watching old running documentaries. •Find other ways to get the mental and physical fix your regular runs give you. It's hardly a huge sacrifice. Running is not life – and there are plenty who, right now, are putting their lives on the line to protect all of ours and keep us going (looking at you, health workers, emergency services, and supermarket staff). Let go of those things you cannot control and focus only on what you can control, and just learn to be patient and happy. Runners, we got this. Even without wearing grooves into our balcony.
