IT ALL STARTS IN THE CLASSROOM The Eco-Schools concept is a growing phenomenon, which encourages young people to engage in their environment by allowing them the opportunity to actively protect it. It starts in the classroom, it expands to the school and eventually fosters change in the community at large.

GOING TO THE PUB
IS OFFICIALLY GOOD FOR YOU, THE ACCORDING TO OXFORD COLONY UNIVERSITY RESEARCHERS CONVERSATION IS THE KEY, CLUB ACCORDING TO A NEW STUDY. It turns out that going to the pub might actually be good for you - and no, it's not because red wine boosts this or that aspect of your health. Oxford University researchers now believe that having a local pub is linked with improved wellbeing due to social engagement. Conversation among small groups is the key, though alcohol's "role in triggering the endorphin system" is also important, according to their new study entitled 'Functional Benefits of (Modest) Alcohol Consumption'.
THE COLONY CLUB
Professor Robin Dunbar, from Oxford's experimental psychology department, said: "This study showed that frequenting a local pub can directly affect peoples’ social network size and how engaged they are with their local community, which in turn can affect how satisfied they feel in life. "Our social networks provide us with the single most important buffer against mental and physical illness. "While pubs traditionally have a role as a place for community socialising, alcohol’s role appears to be in triggering the endorphin system, which promotes social bonding. He and colleagues found people with a local pub they visit regularly tended to feel more socially engaged and contented, and trusted other members of their community more. "Like other complex bonding systems such as dancing, singing and storytelling, it has often been adopted by large social communities as a ritual associated with bonding." The researchers were clear their conclusions related to modest alcohol consumption. Jon Sharman - www.independent.co.uk

What Is Drug Addiction?
Addiction is a disease that affects your brain and behavior. When you’re addicted to drugs, you can’t resist the urge to use them, no matter how much harm the drugs may cause. Drug addiction isn’t about just heroin, cocaine, or other illegal drugs. You can get addicted to alcohol, nicotine, opioid painkillers, and other legal substances. ADDICTION VS. ABUSE Drug abuse is when you use legal or illegal substances in ways you shouldn’t. You might take more than the regular dose of pills or use someone else’s prescription. You may abuse drugs to feel good, ease stress, or avoid reality. But usually, you’re able to change your unhealthy habits or stop using altogether. Addiction is when you can’t stop. Not when it puts your health in danger. Not when it causes financial, emotional, and other problems for you or your loved ones. That urge to get and use drugs can fill up every minute of the day, even if you want to quit. EFFECT ON YOUR BRAIN Your brain is wired to make you want to repeat experiences that make you feel good. So you’re motivated to do them again and again. The drugs that may be addictive target your brain’s reward system. They flood your brain with a chemical called dopamine. This triggers a feeling of intense pleasure. So you keep taking the drug to chase that high. SIGNS OF ADDICTION You may have one or more of these warning signs: •An urge to use the drug every day, or many times a day. •You take more drugs than you want to, and for longer than you thought you would. •You always have the drug with you, and you buy it even if you can’t afford it. •You keep using drugs even if it causes you trouble at work or makes you lash out at people. •You spend more time alone. •You don’t take care of yourself or care how you look. •You steal, lie, or do dangerous things like driving while high or have unsafe sex. •You spend most of your time getting, using, or recovering from the effects of the drug. •You feel sick when you try to quit. WHEN TO GET HELP If your drug use is out of control or causing problems, talk to your doctor. Getting better from drug addiction can take time. There’s no cure, but treatment can help you stop using drugs and stay drugfree. Your treatment may include counseling, medicine, or both. Talk to your doctor to figure out the best plan for you.

It's just a fancier way of saying "although” Not a fancy way of saying "amused." It means puzzled or confused. A deeply genuine, honest nature. It means that something—generally, an illness or condition—is recurring. It refers to language that is used in an ordinary or informal way. To be forced to do something, whether you want to or not. Used to describe a confusing or difficult problem, question, or riddle. An adjective meaning showing or expressing respect. Refers to a difficult problem that offers only 2 possibilities for an outcome. A state or society with great injustice and suffering. To understand what somebody is going through on a personal level. Defined as "a typical or ideal example" of a type or quality. Refers to something that continues to grow at an increasingly rapid rate. Means "of, relating to, or affirming existence”. To treat an important issue in a flippant or humorous manner. Means "by chance," and can be used in a positive or negative way. Means to "cast doubt on" someone or something. Means notorious, as in well-known for a bad reason. Lacking harmony, or inconsistent with itself. Refers to something that happens in the opposite way of what's expected. Words and phrases used by members of a particular profession. To reduce the intensity of something, often in regard to pain or risk. A small amount. Subject to debate and typically not admitting of a final decision. Countless or extremely high in number. Used to describe something that makes you sick, not a way to say you're feeling sick (If you say you're nauseous, you're making someone else sick) A subtle quality, distinction, or variation. A strong tendency toward something, or to display an habitual liking. Doing something in a routine way that lacks certain enthusiasm or interest. It actually means to read thoroughly or examine at length. Means "too much" of something… in a non-favorable way. A combination of contradictory words (such as cruel kindness). Means "a debased, distorted, or grossly inferior imitation" of something else. One of the 5 basic tastes, synonymous with the word savoury. Dialled into the lingo of your home country or common tongue.
There are a lot of good, practical reasons to make learning something new every day your habit, but the best reason has nothing to do with practicality - we are learning creatures, and the lifelong practice of learning is what makes us humans and our lives worthwhile.

you DidKNOW ? Fascinating facts from indigenous and tribal people around the world
1. As far as we know, the ancestors of today’s ‘Bushman’ tribes in southern Africa were in the region tens of thousands of years before anyone else. They have probably lived on their lands longer than anyone else has lived anywhere.
2. The Enawene Nawe tribe of Brazil practice one of the longest ritual celebrations on Earth, lasting over 4 months. They build intricate wooden dams across rivers to catch fish migrating from their spawning grounds. After the ritual ends, the dams are destroyed. 3. There are 100 or so uncontacted tribes in South America and all of them live in the Amazon… except one. The Totobiegosode of Paraguay are a sub-group of the Ayoreo people and some of them have chosen to reject interaction with mainstream society. 4. The most diverse place on Earth is the island of New Guinea, inhabited by around 1,000 or so different tribes. Though only about 0.1% of the world’s population lives here, it’s the home of approximately one seventh of the world’s 7,000 languages.
nfo Ads St Francis
5. Many tribes use naturally-occurring psychoactive substances to sharpen their abilities, both mentally and physically. Matsés men and women often use frog poison before hunting trips to produce a feeling of clarity and strength that can last for several days. 6. The sea-faring Bajau people of Malaysia can hold their breath for up to 3 minutes and free-dive up to 20 meters. 7. The Jumma peoples of Bangladesh allow their precious land to recover by ‘shifting cultivation’; growing food in small parts of their territory, before moving on to another area. They put a mix of seeds in each hole for different crops in different seasons. 8. The Penan people of Sarawak, use clever chemistry to fish sustainably. They use toxins from plants to stun fish, which then float to the surface. People can take only what they need and allow the smaller fish to recover and swim away so fish stocks aren’t depleted. 9. When a child is born to the Orang Rimba tribe of Indonesia, the umbilical cord is planted under a Sentubung tree. The child has a sacred bond with that tree for the rest of their life, and for the Orang Rimba, cutting down a “birth tree” is equivalent to murder. 10. Yanomami hunters never eat their own catch. They give it away to others before they even bring it home. In turn, they only eat what the other hunters have given to them. Everyone eats something provided by someone else, fostering community spirit and cohesion.

PESTCONTROL EASTCAPE
*
Pest Control is something that every home, business, B&B, back packers, game reserves should consider. Having your family bitten by unwanted insects, spiders, bugs and scorpions is one thing, but having your employees or even worse your international tourist unhappy is not good for business. Areas like St Francis Bay should make it mandatory for each thatched roof owner to fog their homes at least once a year to curb the problem. Cleaning is also minimized once areas have been treated. From spider webs to insect excretions to carcasses left by larger predators (almost all of this lands up on the floor, on the counters, shelves, duvet’s etc) The good part is there is no big clean up after the procedure is complete. Most of the spiders, fish moths, lice, gnats etc die in the thatch and a very small percentage actually land up on the floor. Product also does not leave any moisture or oils that could mark linen or carpets. The machine heats the liquid which creates a vapor so impossible to cause any mess. WE PROVIDE HIGH QUALITY AND COST EFFECTIVE PEST CONTROL CHEMICAL FOGGING SERVICES. Contact us today for a quote.

THE FACTS ABOUT SEA POLLUTION Plastic has been found in 62% of all sea birds and in 100% of sea turtle species. Ocean Conservancy said that together they had managed to pick up more than 8.3 million kilograms of rubbish, which amounted to more than 700 African elephants 1.5 million plastic bottles were recovered from the ocean in 2016’s International Coastal Clean Up. Scientists estimate that more than 8 million metric tons of plastic enter the ocean every year. This means that soon there will be one kilogram of plastic for every three kilograms of sh in the ocean. (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.) Plastic disposal is not our only concern.
