WHAT IS WORLD HEALTH DAY? World Health Day is a global awareness day that is celebrated every year on April 7th to commemorate the founding of the World Health Organization in 1948. The World Health Organization (WHO) is the leading global health authority within the United Nations. The purpose of the organization is to control health and communicable diseases across the globe. The WHO uses their anniversary not only as a day of celebration, but as an opportunity to highlight a current global health priority 2021 THEME - BUILDING A FAIRER, HEALTHIER WORLD FOR EVERYONE The COVID-19 pandemic has undercut recent health gains, pushed more people into poverty and food insecurity, and amplified gender, social and health inequities. The campaign highlights WHO’s constitutional principle that “the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of health is one of the fundamental rights of every human being without distinction of race, religion, political belief, economic or social condition.” With all that is going on in the world today, we need to review the importance of living a healthy lifestyle. Here’s a few tips on what you can do to improve your health: EXERCISE Exercise is a very important component in staying healthy. A walk or a run is the perfect outdoor exercise because not only are you in nature and breathing in fresh air, but you’re also getting your blood flowing which raises your heart rate and your mood. PRACTICE MINDFUL MEDITATION Health isn’t just about diet and exercise, it’s about promoting mental health as well. In these trying times, people may be feeling anxious because their normal everyday routine has been uprooted by the Coronavirus. There are various forms of meditation you can search for on the internet - some only take 5 minutes of your time a day! PROMOTE HEALTHY EATING Just as cars need fuel to run properly, our bodies need healthy food to function at their best. It’s important to learn how nutrition affects our health and how eating the proper foods can not only make us feel better but keep us healthy.

WHAT IS TUBERCULOSIS (TB)?
Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease that usually affects the lungs, though it can affect any organ in the body. It can develop when bacteria spread through droplets in the air. TB can be fatal, but in many cases, it is preventable and treatable. . TB INFECTION (LATENT TB) A person can have TB bacteria in their body and never develop symptoms. In most people, the immune system can contain the bacteria so that they do not replicate and cause disease. In this case, a person will have TB infection but not active disease. Doctors refer to this as latent TB. A person may never experience symptoms and be unaware that they have the infection. There is also no risk of passing on a latent infection to another person. However, a person with latent TB still requires treatment. TB DISEASE (ACTIVE TB) The body may be unable to contain TB bacteria. This is more common when the immune system is weakened due to illness or the use of certain medications. When this happens, the bacteria can replicate and cause symptoms, resulting in active TB. People with active TB can spread the infection. EARLY WARNING SIGNS A person should see a doctor if they experience the following symptoms: a persistent cough, lasting at least 3 weeks, phlegm, which may have blood in it, when they cough, a loss of appetite and weight, a general feeling of being unwell, swelling in the neck, a fever, night sweats or chest pain. SYMPTOMS Latent TB: A person with latent TB will have no symptoms, and no damage will show on a chest X-ray. However, a blood test or skin prick test will indicate that they have TB infection. Active TB: A person with TB disease may experience a cough producing phlegm, fatigue, a fever, chills, and a loss of appetite and weight. Symptoms typically worsen over time, but they can also go away and return. TREATMENT With early detection and appropriate antibiotics, TB is treatable. Treatment for latent TB can vary. It may involve taking an antibiotic once a week for 12 weeks or every day for 9 months. Treatment for active TB may involve taking several drugs for 6–9 months. When a person has a drug resistant strain of TB, the treatment will be more complex.

APRIL SUGURU PUZZLE SAMPLE PUZZLE Suguru puzzles are quite different than Sudoku - you'll see that the grid is subdivided into containers or cages with heavy lines, each of which is 1 to 5 cells in size. You need to fill each container with unique digits, counting up from 1. So for example a 2-square container contains the numbers 1 and 2. A 5-square container contains the numbers from 1 to 5. Adjacent (touching) cells may never contain the same number, and this includes diagonally adjacent cells. That's it!

JOIN THE SFPO? NOTICE OF WHY ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING Over the last of issues, we have been describingASSOCIATION all the excellent reasons to STcouple FRANCIS PROPERTY OWNERS become St Francis Property Owners Association members. Here are reasons 7-10.
Never in the history of our village have there been more issues that need to be addressed. Unless we remain well informed and can stand together, our town will lose not only its charm but many of the services that are already showing wear. As residents and property owners, we simply have to be in charge of our own destiny. To do this, the SFPO needs the support of the entire community. Our Association currently has a competent executive team of local residents elected by ratepayers every two years. Whether a property owner or a resident renting property, your support is critical to ensure St Francis Bay is all that it can be. Start participating in our future by joining the SFPO. The subscription is R500 a year (R330 for pensioners). 7. Critical Matters The potential erection of the Thyspunt Nuclear Power station was an issue that the Association took up with Eskom. We have recently formed a sub-committee to monitor and control the proposed erection of 4G and 5G Cell phone towers and the roll-out of fibre optic cabling. The draft policy for solar energy is also under consideration by the Association. 8. Provision of Information The Association has a website that is constantly updated – www.stfrancispropertyowners.co.za. Public meetings, newsletters and our Facebook page are used to keep members informed. 9. Environmental Matters The Association has strong links with the Kromme Enviro-Trust. The two organisations keep each other informed and work together on issues relating to environmental matters. The Association initiated the provision of the recycling facility, which is now available at the Municipal yard next to the fire station 10. Disaster Management The Association works in close cooperation with the Disaster Volunteer Group to provide swift and effective reaction and management of local disasters, including fire, flooding, pollution control and, in COVID-19 times - food relief for the needy. The Association has been proactively involved in promoting responsible bush and Erven clearing for fire prevention.

ST FRANCIS COLLEGE NEWS NEWS FROM THE INTERMEDIATE PHASE As we near the end of our first term we can reflect on it with joy. It has been a lovely, busy term with lots of fun projects and events. The Grade 4 to 6 learners have been very busy in the school garden, prepping the beds, nurturing the worm farms under the guidance of Andrew Morris, and planting lots of seedlings. The Grade 7 learners assisted with the painting of a blackboard on the garden wall, which will soon be our school's first outdoor classroom. We are currently in our sixteenth year as an Eco-school, and the outdoor classroom is one of many projects lined up for the year. One of our highlights this term was a visit from the local Fire Station and the Working On Fire team! Heroes in our community who took the time to share their passion with our learners. This was a day the students will never forget, from the demonstration of how the Firemen get suited up, to the “Stop! Drop! Roll!” and of course management of the hoses. The foam spray was the most fun! The Grade 6 class took the opportunity this term to work on a special project for another set of heroes in our town, the pharmacists and doctors who are our frontline protectors during this pandemic. Each medical practise was presented with a poster of artwork created by the Grade 6 class, thanking the medical professionals for always going above and beyond to care for our community.
