ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE - WHAT IS IT?
Alzheimer's disease is a progressive neurologic disorder that causes the brain to shrink (atrophy) and brain cells to die. Alzheimer's disease is the most common cause of dementia - a continuous decline in thinking, behavioral and social skills that affects a person's ability to function independently. SYMPTOMS Memory loss is the key symptom of Alzheimer's disease. Early signs include difficulty remembering recent events or conversations. As the disease progresses, memory impairments worsen and other symptoms develop. MEMORY Everyone has occasional memory lapses, but the memory loss associated with Alzheimer's disease persists and worsens, affecting the ability to function at work or at home. People with Alzheimer's may: •Repeat statements and questions over and over •Forget conversations, appointments or events, and not remember them later •Routinely misplace possessions, often putting them in illogical locations •Get lost in familiar places •Eventually forget the names of family members and everyday objects •Have trouble finding the right words to identify objects, express thoughts or take part in conversations Alzheimer's disease causes difficulty concentrating and thinking, especially about abstract concepts such as numbers. It also causes a decline in the ability to make reasonable decisions and judgments in everyday situations. Once-routine activities that require sequential steps, such as planning and cooking a meal or playing a favorite game, become a struggle as the disease progresses. Eventually, people with advanced Alzheimer's often forget how to perform basic tasks such as dressing and bathing. Brain changes that occur in Alzheimer's disease can affect moods and behaviours. Problems may include the following: •Depression •Apathy •Social withdrawal •Mood swings •Distrust in others •Irritability and aggressiveness •Changes in sleeping habits •Wandering WHEN TO SEE A DOCTOR A number of conditions, including treatable conditions, can result in memory loss or other dementia symptoms. If you are concerned about your memory or other thinking skills, talk to your doctor for a thorough assessment and diagnosis.

“Pharmacy: Always trusted for your health” is the theme of this year’s World Pharmacists Day on 25 September 2021. Why this theme of trust? Trust is a central part of all human relationships and is also essential to health care: there is a significant association between trust in healthcare professionals and health outcomes for patients. For many years, pharmacists have consistently been named among the top five most trusted professionals in national surveys. Why are pharmacists trusted? Pharmacists genuine interest in their patients and time taken to listen to their needs, establish meaningful connections and continue to build positive relationships. As the most accessible healthcare provider in many parts of the world, working in premises that operate longer working hours than many other healthcare facilities, pharmacies are more able to demonstrate, consistently, their skills and care.
Join us on 25 September to show your appreciation for the trust in our local pharmacists at St Francis Bay Pharmacy - I’m sure you’ll all agree that they certainly are the best in the business!
Thank you for a you do!
RESIDENTS TO CUT BACK ON DAILY WATER CONSUMPTION WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT THE Greater St Francis Bay area will be without water within the next month or two should no signicant rain fall in the catchment area very soon. The combined level of the dams (Impofu Dam and Churchill Dam) that supply water to the area totalled just over 18% as per the latest information from Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality. “Residents currently use 2.5Ml water per day on average, which is the highest consumption rate in the region. This can increase to over 7Ml per day over the peak season in December when the area has an inux in visitors,” said Kouga Executive Mayor, Horatio Hendricks. According to Hendricks, Cape Town has proven that there are only two ways to cut back Day Zero – to bring down water consumption and to nd additional water resources. “It is therefore imperative that all residents and businesses in the area reduce their above average daily water consumption by at least 50% with immediate effect, as well as to erect rainwater tanks were possible,” he said. “If the water usage is not reduced signicantly, water restrictors will be implemented. Should this fail to be effective, the municipality will be forced to implement strict water rationing. This means that water will only be available from the taps for a few hours per day and will be shut off for the remainder of the day.” Hendricks urges all construction workers to not use potable water when building. They should rather contact the municipality who will supply them with borehole water.
He said any planned restrictions will be carefully considered and proper consultation with affected parties will take place before water curtailing measures are implemented. “The municipality is currently investigating the possibility of augmenting additional water supply from The Links, Eskom, Rebelsrus and the harbour,” said Hendricks. As part of the municipality's efforts to manage water usage, municipal taps are turned off at public open spaces, all municipal buildings will be equipped with rainwater harvesting tanks, and stringent measures have been put in place to ensure that the restricted allocation of water – 50l per person per day – is adhered to. The municipality is also working with law enforcement to enforce compliance. “We remind residents that the current water restrictions prohibit the connection of a hose pipe or an irrigation system to taps supplying water from the municipal system,” said Hendricks. “Pools may not be lled or topped up, and the washing of paved areas, roofs and walls with municipal water are also not allowed.”
“Saving water starts with all of us. Let us work together and reduce water consumption. Every drop counts.”

SEPTEMBER SUGURU PUZZLE Suguru puzzles are quite different than Sudoku - you'll see that the grid is subdivided into containers or cages with heavy lines, each of which is 1 to 5 cells in size. You need to fill each container with unique digits, counting up from 1. So for example a 2-square container contains the numbers 1 and 2. A 5-square container contains the numbers from 1 to 5. Adjacent (touching) cells may never contain the same number, and this includes diagonally adjacent cells. That's it!

you DidKNOW ? LIST OF TEN BIZARRE PHOBIAS
While most people have heard of common phobias, like the fear of heights (acrophobia) or the fear of spiders (arachnophobia), here’s is a list of weird phobias you may have never heard of:
1. Arachibutyrophobia - Fear of peanut butter sticking to the roof of your mouth Arachibutyrophobia can stem from a traumatic incident with peanut butter such as choking on or being allergic to it. 2. Nomophobia - Fear of being without your mobile phone People with nomophobia experience excessive anxiety about not having their phone with them, their battery being low or their phone being out of service. 3. Arithmophobia - Fear of numbers Arithmophobia can significantly impair a person’s life, as it is difficult to do many tasks or occupations without dealing with numbers. 4. Plutophobia - Fear of money People with plutophobia may fear becoming wealthy themselves or have a fear of wealthy people. They generally dread money itself and having to deal with it. 5 Ablutophobia - Fear of bathing Ablutophobia is a fear of bathing, washing or cleaning oneself. This phobia most often occurs in children and resolves with age, but can still be present in adults. 6. Optophobia - Fear of opening one’s eyes People with optophobia may prefer to stay indoors or in dimly lit areas. Like so many other phobias, this fear is usually the result of a traumatic incident. 7 Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia - Fear of long words This phobia is thought to develop from being embarrassed by pronouncing long words incorrectly. The phobia can also be common in people with dyslexia. 8. Ephebiphobia - Fear of adolescents People with ephebiphobia may perceive teenagers as out of control or dangerous and will not want to be around them. 9. Omphalophobia - Fear of belly buttons People with omphalophobia will avoid seeing or touching belly buttons, even their own. They might even put a bandage over their belly button to avoid looking at it. 10. Pogonophobia - Fear of beards This usually stems from an alarming incident with a bearded person. It could also arise from a person not liking that a beard hides someone’s face.
