On behalf of the StFX family, it is my honour to welcome you to our university! We are so thrilled that you have decided to join us and are excited for all you will add to our vibrant community life. We can’t wait for you to see for yourselves! Please know that every single person here at StFX is committed to your health, safety, and wellbeing, especially in the time of COVID-19. I wish you the best of luck as you get ready to begin your StFX journey!

Our Response To Covid-19 Last year, StFX’s COVID-19 response plan – developed in conjunction with Nova Scotia Public Health – guided us to a wonderfully successful year, despite the pandemic. We plan to do it all again.

SAFE, IN-PERSON LEARNING

Last year our students spent the year where they were meant to be: In the classroom. With more than 75% of our classes held in a face-to-face format during the 2020-21 year, StFX offered more in-person learning than any other Canadian university. And we did it safely, with new and enhanced health and safety protocols for all students, faculty, and employees on campus. This year, you can count on us to deliver the same safe, in-person living and learning experience that StFX students have come to expect. Welcome to university as it is meant to be!

ENSURING YOUR HEALTH AND WELLBEING

We are committed to your health and wellbeing. As part of our COVID-19 response, we added a Community Mental Health Nurse to our team as a mental health resource, well as additional custodial service supports and enhanced cleaning standards. We also introduced new residence and dining protocols to help ensure the wellbeing of our students. Finally, we are very proud to enjoy a close working relationship with provincial public health officials, who have reviewed and approved our plans to welcome students to campus and offer face-to-face classes.

14-DAY QUARANTINE The Nova Scotia government currently requires travellers coming from outside the province to complete a mandatory 14-day quarantine period upon their arrival. Last year, we supported hundreds of students as they quarantined in residence and many more non-residence students who completed their quarantine in off-campus housing. Please note that, depending on government requirements, students from outside of Nova Scotia may need to quarantine upon their arrival for this upcoming academic year. Should this be the case, over the summer months we will share information on when quarantining students need to arrive in Antigonish. For more information on travel restrictions and quarantine requirements, visit the Nova Scotia government’s COVID-19 web-portal at www.novascotia.ca/coronavirus.

STUDENTS’ UNION HEALTH AND DENTAL PLAN

The StFX Students’ Union Health and Dental Plan will cover select medical costs that are not included under most provincial health care plans, including dental work and pharmaceutical drug costs. If unexpected medical issues arise, you will want to have coverage! Canadian students with alternative coverage may opt-out if they do so before September 30, 2021. You may only opt-out if you can provide proof of coverage from another provider. We encourage you to investigate the benefits offered by the Students’ Union plan before deciding to opt-out. Some students with alternate coverage choose to stay enrolled in the plan because it covers student-specific needs that some other plans do not. To learn more about your benefits and how to coordinate coverage between two plans, visit www.mystudentplan.ca/stfxsu.
