consighnors:
Welcome Brahman breeders
and enthusiasts
As Brahman breeders we all have a common goal – breeding great cattle for the next generation. Whether we are breeding for productive and proven donors, strong herd sires, a commercial herd, creating replacements, or show cattle, a strong foundation is the building block to that success. From everyone at STgenetics Brahman, HK Cattle, and JD Hudgins – Goudeau Division, we are pleased to present to you our sale offerings that we believe are cattle that will be able to those assets to any operation in our 4th Annual Spring Production Sale. The genetics in this year’s sale represent elite sires and powerful cow families that symbolize breeding accomplishments from intense selections and generations of proven genetics. As we do in every sale, sale offerings will include the feed efficiency data from the Genetic Development Center that we believe is an important asset to remain profitable in having productive and function cattle. These are also offerings that will not only carry on each ranch’s legacy for years to come but will be cattle you can appreciate and value in your own herd. It is hard to believe that we have arrived in 2022 and are now presenting this year’s offerings. As we try and continue to find our way back to “normal”, we are excited to have this year’s sale party at the Genetic Development Center on Sunday, March 6th at 5:00 PM. We will be providing food, drinks, and assistance to any questions you may have. Visitors are welcomed to view the cattle two weeks prior to the sale by appointment. It has been our goal as a company and breeders to continue to provide genetics our customers will value for years to come. We appreciate you taking the time to look through our sale offerings and thankful for trusting in our program. We look forward to seeing you at the International Show in Houston and on Sunday, March 6th at the Genetic Development Center!
Sincerely,
Adelyn Allen

Explanation Feed is the single biggest expense in any livestock operation. As we select for animals that are more efficient, meaning animals that are able to demonstrate gains equal to their contemporaries while consuming less feed, we are not only lowering production costs but also minimizing the environmental footprint of that animal. The goal of the Genetic Development Center through feed efficiency testing is to identify animals that will add more bottom line profit to our customers while at the same time reduce the impact on the environment, which is beneficial to everyone.

Ultrasound Scanning Results
REA: Rib Eye Area
The Ultrasound Scanning Results Report consists of the final analysis of cattle that producers have scanned for carcass traits. Once your cattle are scanned by an approved Ultrasound Guidelines Approved Technician and have been interpreted by an approved lab, these results are reported to ABBA, added to your animal’s file, and then sent to you in this format. To obtain a copy of the ultrasound guidelines, visit the ABBA website or contact the ABBA office.
REA/CW T: Muscle Score
Adapted From the Brahman Herd Improvement Records Program Manual
This report consists of the animal’s registration number, private herd number, date of birth, sex, sire and dam information, and the weight and age in days at the time of scanning.

The report gives the actual and adjusted ribeye area as well as a ration and rank for comparison within the contemporary group. The ribeye measurement is taken between the 12th and 13th rib. This measurement is a common estimator of total muscle.
the End of G DC Test
The expected base Ribeye Area 1.1 in 2 /100 lbs of live weight. This would equate to a 1,000 lb animal having an 11.0 in 2 REA. Anything under this would be less than ideal, while anything over this would be exceptional.

The next columns give the results for Percent IMF (Intramuscular Fat or Marbling). The actual and adjusted measurements are given as well as the ratio and rank among the contemporaries for this trait. The IMF measurements provides an estimate of the degree of marbling or intramuscular fat deposited in the ribeye that ultimately affects the USDA Quality Grade.
The next two sets of columns report the actual and adjusted measurements for rib fat and rump fat as well as give the ratios and rank among the contemporary group for these two traits. The rib fat measurement is the most common measure of external fat on a carcass and is directly related to carcass yield grade. The rump fat measurement is an indicator of the total amount of carcass fat and is correlated to percent retail product: the more rump fat, the less pounds of lean product.

Efficiency Index
This is a multiple trait index including residual feed intake, average daily gain and age with the objective of estimating the relationship of efficiency and gain. This intake is a tool that is expected to increasegrowth rate and decrease feed intake of the progeny from bulls and heifers with feed efficiency phenotypes.

RFI is the difference between actual intake and predicted intake based on the animal’s gain, body weight, and composition. Animals Expected Feed Intake on test are expected to eat “x” amount of feed according to their Expected Feed Intake initial weight and target gain. The more they deviate from their RFI = (Observed FI) – (Expected FI) expected intake, the more efficient or ineffient they are. FI = ADG + BW0.75 + Age + Pen + RFI

Here is a breeding age bull to round out the end of the live offerings, but one who should not be missed! This September 2019 Mr. America 280 son, MR J&M ATKINS 401/9, is big-boned, deep-ribbed, with a great deal of muscle expression, and has a great red color! Atkins had exceptional data when he was at the Genetic Development Center’s Fall 2020 test with a 6.13 IMF, 3.48 ADG, and 13.8 REA. On his EPDs within the ABBA, he also is in the top 3% for Weaning Weight and Marbling, 4% for Yearling Weight, 20% for Fat, and 25% for Carcass Weight and $Queen.
