Designer Rugs

Reflecting great design, rich colors, and exceptional value.

Our family appreciation for fine rugs began with my grandfather who in 1928 opened a showroom in New York City, named EJ Audi Fine Furniture and Rugs. When my parents purchased Stickley in 1974 and later reissued the Mission Collection in 1989, they worked to create a totally harmonious environment that complements the artistry and beauty of Stickley and embodies the same commitment in quality and design. Thus began the Stickley

Collection. A hand-knotted Oriental Rug is perhaps the most functional

that you will ever own. At Stickley, we have a true appreciation for the fine crafting of a timeless piece R to L: Alfred Audi, Aminy Audi, Edward Audi, Andrea Audi, and Carolyn Audi Fischi

of home furniture. Our Stickley Designer Rugs parallel the finely crafted furniture we build each day. The same way that the creation of a Stickley cabinet begins with the careful selection of the finest hardwoods—the creation of a Stickley Designer Rug begins with the world’s finest wool. Woven by

expert weavers, the Stickley Designer Rug Collection reflects great design, rich color, and exceptional value. Stickley Designer Rugs will last many generations and will complement the timeless design of Stickley Furniture. We applaud your choice and appreciate your desire for only the finest in craftsmanship and value.

Edward Audi COVER: FALLING LEAVES, STICKLEY DESIGNER RUG 7773 COCKTAIL TABLE, 7791 BOAT SHAPED END TABLE, 96-9074-77-SFL EASTLAKE SOFA

The most functional piece of art you will ever own.

The creation of a Stickley Designer rug begins with the finest natural fiber known to man, wool. Wool fibers are covered with layers arranged much like shingles on a roof. This layering prevents dirt from penetrating the outer cover of the fiber–helping prevent soiling and staining. Spot cleaning wool can be done easily before a stain is set and regular vacuuming is all that is required for routine daily care. Wool resists soiling, cleans easily and is thousands of times more flexible and durable than synthetic fibers. Also, wool does not burn. Wool insulates and absorbs sound. Rugs made of wool can last for hundreds of years, withstand continuous use, and remain beautiful examples of combined art, durability, and creativity. The art of rug making spans more than 2500 years and its history is as rich and colorful as these magnificent rugs themselves. The earliest rugs were created by nomadic tribal peoples as utilitarian ground covers. The Tibetan Dali Lama’s horse had very special hand-knotted silk saddle blankets and Mughal Emperor, Shah Jahan erected carpet factories in the shadows of the Taj Mahal. Rugs provide a lifetime of utility, joy, and satisfaction to their owners. They become family heirlooms that are passed down for generations to enjoy. These valued possessions are always in style and enhance beautiful hardwood floors. Since 1900, Stickley has been a family owned and operated business. With our vast knowledge of interior design, our understanding of furniture’s form and function, and appreciation of fine oriental rugs, we carefully select the best designs and colors to complement today’s interiors. Our Arts and Crafts rugs are unique and complement Stickley Furniture. Stickley works directly with the world’s finest weavers and warranties our rugs against manufacturing defects. We carefully select the best designs and colors to create works of art. Stickley Designer Rugs are sold in stores that are respectable and credible and share Stickley’s belief that “reputation is precious but character is priceless”.

The Donegal RU-1350 Series

The Donegal. It all began in 1898, when Alexander Morton & Company of London began producing hand made carpets in Donegal, Ireland. Gustav Stickley owned several Donegal rugs, and in the December 1906 issue of The Craftsman, Stickley states: “For those wanting the very best in rugs and carpets, there is an end to the quest in the rich, artistic and everlasting Donegal Rugs... in depth and closeness of pile, richness of coloring, and grace of design, nothing can excel these Donegal products.” Originally displayed at Grafton Gallery in London during a Liberty’s Exhibition in 1903, this carpet design artfully depicts the boughs of a giant hemlock. Hand-knotted by Nepalese weavers using wool from Himalayan Highland sheep, this rug is as popular today as it was during Gustav’s era. Wild Rose RU-1370 Series

Wild Rose is inspired by the works of Charles Rennie Mackintosh, the Scottish architect/designer/artist who gained international notice in the early 20th century for his unlikely union of forms that bridged the worlds of Art Nouveau and Modernism. His work, which included private residences, public buildings, furnishings and interiors was often characterized by the blending together of square patterns with long sweeping arches and fanciful curves. He created both order and complexity through the richness of this motif, often setting up relationships among the squares in a piece while highlighting the sensuous lines and spaces in between. Hand-knotted by Nepalese weavers using wool from Himalayan Highland sheep, this rug will last many lifetimes to be enjoyed by generations to come. Mughal Silk - Black RU-3720 Series

Mughal Silk – Black is a handknotted wool Indian carpet with a touch of silk. Hand-knotted on looms located in the ancient city of Jaipur, this carpet and the rugs from this area were an inspiration to William Morris and other noted Arts and Crafts leaders in their design of textiles and wallpapers. This design is from a carpet woven during the reign of Jahangir (r.160527). During this Mughal King’s reign trade with the West brought European botanical paintings to India, which inspired Mughal artists to reproduce their own plants naturalistically. The flower heads on this superb rug fall within a trellis formed by curved serrated leaves. The color palette reflects the traditional colors from the Rajasthan region where Jaipur is located. GENERAL CARE AND CLEANING Your Oriental rug is a pre-eminent example of combined art, durability, and creativity and deserves the same care and attention you would devote to a fine piece of furniture. Your efforts will be rewarded time and time again through years of lasting satisfaction with the unique beauty of your oriental carpet. 1. Vacuum regularly; at least once a week. Regular vacuuming will help remove destructive grit that is tracked on the surface and sifts through the wool fibers to the foundation of the rug. Occasionally, you should vacuum the back of the rug to draw out the very short, light absorbing bits of yarn that can otherwise dull the luster of the carpet. 2. Rotate your rug frequently to allow for equal wear and exposure to sunlight. In high traffic areas, we recommend doing this once a year. 3. Wet clean as required; generally not more than every ten years, preferably by a professional carpet cleaner. Professional cleaning will remove the grit and dirt that becomes deeply embedded as well as the surface soiling that dulls the appearance of the carpet. Cleaning should be done only by a professional cleaning service that specializes in oriental rugs, and not by a commercial cleaner unfamiliar with a hand-woven product. 4. Cope with stains immediately. Whenever possible, clean a spill before it has a chance to set. First, scrape up any solid dirt or blot up excess liquid with a paper or cloth towel. Depending on the type of spill, a simple variety of household solutions may be used. Specific stain treatments, as supplied by The Wool Bureau, are as follows: Alcoholic Beverages Blood Chewing Gum Chocolate Coffee Cola / Soft Drink Fruit Juices Furniture Polish Gravy / Sauces Mildew Mud Rust Salad Dressing Tea Urine Vomit Wine 1. 2. 3. 4.
