Welcome to the first edition of mellowmagazine. If you like EDM Music and going to festivals, then this is your magazine! In this edition I’m going to tell you all about our top 3 festivals. And we are going to get really deep with our No.1 DJ, HARDWELL. We will get to know him way better than you used to. In the interview with him, he is going to talk all about his lifestyle, his music. And how he produces his own songs. Because that’s the thing we want to know of course. We are also going to talk about the swedish house mafia. This being the last tour they are going to be on, which is such a shame, but nevertheless, if they want to, they have to. The magazine is all about he djs

Award-winning DJ, producer, label manager Hardwell. This talented genius, better known as Robbert van de Corput, started his DJ career at the tender age of 13. After this blow-out, Hardwell’s talent was picked up by a Dutch label, and they signed him when he was only 14 years old. Shortly after his label signing, he started to play at all mayor clubs in the Netherlands. For the last couple of years, Hardwell has been recognised by the industry as having a new and refreshing take on a scene that continues to evolve, and seems to have an everlasting shelf life. His identity and musical development can be summed up in a single phrase, “Big Room House”. He has created his unique trademark as a DJ and producer around this sound. His growing reputation and success was picked up by party-minded people, they voted for him for the DJMAG Top 100 this year, and he got a well deserved No.24 spot in the Top 100 list, his first entry into their charts. They pinpointed him as one of the leaders of a new generation of DJ’s, and unequivocally one to watch in the future. The growing momentum of his ‘fresh and open-minded’ label, Revealed Recordings, certainly proves their point, and fans can expect loads of exciting new releases very soon. After launching his label ‘Revealed Recordings’ in 2010, Hardwell also started with the release of the brand new Revealed compilation series. ‘Hardwell presents Revealed’ gives you a clear vision about the sound Hardwell and the label represent. After two successful editions he will soon bring you volume three of the Revealed compilation series. On top of this killer list, Hardwell’s Eclectic Beatz compilations are some of the best selling mix albums of the last few years, with 10 editions released in total. This summer he was also chosen to mix the 2011 Amnesia Ibiza compilation. 2011 remixes include huge smashes like Taio Cruz, Hangover (Hardwell Remix), Tiesto ft. Hardwell’s bootleg of Avicii Levels had 100,000 plays on Soundcloud in only four days. This tune went to No.1 in the dance charts in Holland, and stayed for a month and a half in the Beatport Progressive House Top 10, after being released in over 20 countries worldwide. The teaser of this track had 100,000 views on YouTube in one week. He also collaborated with Nicky Romero on a tune called Beta, another huge hit that achieved international success. In March 2011 Hardwell launched his very own radio show, Hardwell On Air, giving everyone who hears it an extra boost for the weekend. The show is broadcasted on Holland’s top dance station, SLAM!FM, on Sirius XM in the US, on Radio FG France and Belgium, and right here on 1Mix Radio, with more stations to be announced soon. Next to Hardwell’s latest floorfillers, the show also provides a platform for new DJ talent, and shows Hardwell’s status as a true tastemaker in the music industry. Behind the decks Hardwell never fails to deliver. His exceptional technical skills, variety of music, distinguished looks, and that added personal touch make him stand out. These days he’s bringing it to the masses, with performances all over the world from Sydney to Miami, and Ibiza to London. Hardwell recently toured with Tiesto through North America and made his debut at one of the worlds biggest dance events, ‘Sensation’ in Prague, Czech and Denmark, and he did a full tour in the USA and played at EDC/Electric Zoo. Robbert de corput as hardwell You started DJ’ing at the age of 13, how did you get into it so young, and when did you think it was for you? Actually in Holland we have on MTV in the evening a dance program. They filmed a lot of DJ’s and parties. When I was young, I was like “Wow, I want to be the DJ, I want to play the music” and I was obsessed because it looked so big, the vinyl’s and all the stuff. Actually I was always into music. I was six years old when I started to play the piano and so yeah. Music has always been there in my life as I grew up. The DJ’ing was really fascinating for me. I wanted to do this when I saw it on MTV. I told my parents and I started playing little parties for friends, and getting money so I could buy my first vinyl. I bought my first vinyl and went from there.

You’re playing Sensation in Prague along some of the world’s best artists, what are your thoughts on playing this event, being so young compared to other artists? When ID&T called me about the gig and wanted me to play at Sensation, it was like wow! I have no words for that you know? I think it’s one of the biggest accomplishments you can get as a DJ, to play at Sensation, the world’s leading dance event. They also call it that! Sensation is the biggest, not even the biggest but the best show, the best crowd, it’s amazing! I’m going to be playing prime time. I thought maybe I was going to have to warm up, but I’m playing prime time, and it’s so cool! I’m playing with Sharam, Fedde le Grand, AN21 & Max Vangeli, Joris Voorn, it’s so big! I think when you start out as a DJ; Sensation is one of those gigs that are like a dream, that you will work towards if you are a DJ, you have to play there. It’s one of the biggest things you can do as a DJ. I’m really happy with that! I hope one day to play, of course, Sensation in Amsterdam cause that’s the only festival I haven’t played at in Holland!
How do you feel about being a label head and having your own label called revealed recordings? You’re feeling free. That’s the best description that Source; Jeffrey Nolet, Megamind Magazine, 20-05-2011.
I can give. Nobody is telling me can you make that kind of music, can you do that, can you do this! You know, I’m working on music; I’m getting together with my label manager. Also he just e-mailed me a track that he just picked up from a demo and said “Have you heard this?” and I said “No.” Because I’m touring and I’m really busy! So he signed a record for the label and that’s cool you know! We really work together, we share the same thoughts about music, and we have the same ideas. He’s my label manager and also one of my best friends, so he’s really great to work with! We’re more friends than colleges. It seems like now a days a lot of successful producers will follow up with starting a label. Do you think this is a necessary step to get recognition on a larger level, or is it a preferred route to get your own creative outlet that you manage? It’s not because that it’s become more about getting more recognition. It’s because of, the reason I started my label is because of, and I’m like literally in the club every day. So I see exactly what the crowd wants, I see exactly what the crowd needs with music and instead of the biggest, if you look to the biggest record companies in the world they’ve got an A&R manger. It’s like an old guy who’s never been in the club, or like maybe 10 years ago and he’s telling me what I have to change in my records, you know? That was my biggest problem; I was like “come on man.” An A&R is telling me what I have to change in my record to become a major hit. I don’t make major hits, I make music that my fans will want me too. They want the “Hardwell sound” and I don’t need one A&R to tell me to “change this, change that.” If I wanted to change it I already did it. So yeah, for me it was like a creative outlet making music that I really want to make and just release it whenever I want to. Instead of making a release schedule because of the record company has so many record deals. Are there any smaller up and coming artists that you have your name on, people that get a name now? Yeah! Really in Holland we have so many up and coming DJ’s and producers. It’s actually unbelievable! But also with my label that’s a good one to get back to that question. It’s good because now I have my own label its good for me to sign new artists because bigger record companies don’t want to take the risk to release stuff from unknown names, and I’m like if the track is good, and is working on the dance floor, why shouldn’t you release it? So names like Jordy Lishious, he’s just been picked up by Deadmau5, Deadmau5 is playing his tracks. JoeySuki is another guy, also from Holland; he’s making really big tracks at the moment. Nicky Romero, Franky Rizardo, is big. Yeah, a lot of new upcoming guys!

Is it common in Holland to start DJ’ing at such a young age? Or were you an exception? No, I was an exception. Now days I think because there are so many young producers, especially in Holland. We inspire a lot of kids to make music and play music and it’s so easy now days to download the cracked program and just figure it out. How we make beats and stuff. You can check tutorials on YouTube. It’s really cool actually. Did your experience with music at a young help shape you to become who you are now? Yeah I think so, especially because when I started playing records in Holland, the Dutch sound really started to get on and just getting evolved, evolved and now a day’s it’s so big. You see the biggest American rock stars and producers are influenced by the Dutch sound. If you take Chuckie and Afrojack it’s unbelievable they’re working with the biggest stars right now. You’ve done work with them? Yeah, yeah. It was really cool working with them. Afrojack is a really cool story. I signed his first record on my label when he was also a young kid. He’s still young. We’re actually the same age. When he was 16 he came to me because I was playing in clubs and gave me his CD. He was like “Hey Hardwell, can you listen to my track please?” If you look at him now, he’s so big. Because I was very young when I was 14, I signed my first record deal. When I signed the record deal, I also worked at the record company at the time, just to gain experience about business and what’s going on, contracts, and producing. So for me it was a big dream as a kid walking around a professional record company. That’s why Afrojack gave me his first CD and I signed it. So yeah that was really cool.

Was that the first track you ever did with Tiesto? Yeah, it was the first track. Actually, I did a remix of Lethal Industry for his Tiesto - Magikal Journey (The Hits Collection 1998-2008 - Remixed) album. Were he only had remixes of his best tracks and I did a remix for that and later we just got in touch by e-mail. And that’s how Zero76 was born. Do you feel that it’s necessary to first be a successful producer before you can become a successful DJ? It really helps, yeah. Actually when you make records and people like your music, you get booked because people know your music and they know what to expect. If you’re only a DJ there are so many DJ’s these days and they book you because of your music. So it’s really necessary to make good music and start producing. Have you ever taken any big risks in your career? Not really actually, maybe sometimes when I’m in the studio I’m trying to just flirting with a bit of commercial twist but you know because of a lot of people are so really purest in the trance music, they don’t get it sometimes when I do remixes for Flo Rida, for example Kelly Rowland. Some people are like “Wow, don’t get commercial, don’t become the new Guetta.” With all the respects, you know? They want me to be pure and make really good progressive records, instead of making commercial club records. So for me sometimes that’s a big risk. But actually, I make music, I really love to make music, and in the end it’s all the same Hardwell stuff. At what age was your first tour? My first tour I was 14, when I did my first tour in Holland, together with Chuckie. I was 14 and we played at the biggest clubs in Holland. It was because when I signed the record deal, I released mix compilation and that mix compilation ended up in the number one spot in the Dutch album charts, so because of that we did the whole tour and that’s how it all started for me in Holland.

Have you developed a friendship with Afrojack since then and how do you think about it? Holland is so small. We see each other like every week. So it’s like all DJ’s know each other like Chuckie, Afrojack, Laidback Luke. Now days everybody is touring so much that we only have contact by cell phone or e-mail.
Are you a mentor to any of the smaller upcoming artists or just like a guy that you can lay back on? Yeah, like JoeySuki! Not like mentor, but more like they call me when they are working on a record and are like “Hey Hardwell, what do you think about this?’ and “What should I change?” or “How’s the mastering on this?” “Can you play it this weekend just to check it out, and how the crowd reacts to it?”
The past 5 years you have built a very envious discography. What do you feel is your biggest accomplishment with all your releases and everything? Umm, it has to be Zero76 because of Tiesto and all of that stuff. It was so big now worldwide, it was my first number 1 hit on Beatport for two weeks. So it’s like wow. Actually I can still go like, it’s a dream, don’t know how to describe it, it’s just wonderful you know? That so many people appreciated your music.

How do you get your inspiration for the names of your tracks? Most of the time, song names are just poppin’ into my head. And sometimes it depends on the sound. For example, the track ‘Kontiki’ was actually made up when I and DANNIC were staying at an appartment called Kontiki. Did you take any classes to learn how to produce electronic dance music? No, I didn’t take any classes. But it took me like years and years to develop my ears. And listen to other producers. Reading a lot of tutorials on the internet, and then just trying out. It takes a lot of time to develop your own sound. And to get your ears right to master the tracks.

Have you ever played an instrument? When you start producing a track, is there a general proces? When I was 6 years I started playing the piano and to be honest that’s the only instrument that I’ve played. With wat software do you produce? I actually started producing on Microsoft windows first. But then I switched to Apple No, there is no general proces, sometimes I start with the melody, and sometimes I start with the beat. Sometimes I just feel like making some cool beats, and sometimes the melody is just stuck in my head. How long does it take you to master your tracks? Have you used some of your own vocals during a track? When I’m producing a track, I always want to master it while I am producing so I always do it like that. I want to make it as best as I can from the beginning. Yes, i have actually used my own vocals, thats a funny question, because on my new track ‘How we do’ with showtek we used my vocals “Yeah that’s how we do!”. It was actually the first time I used my own vocals in a track. And it was incredible to see people enjoy it!
How much time dit it take you to finish your latest track on tour, did it take long? When you have a gig planned, how do you get ready for it? The latest track I produced on tour was Cobra, it took me like on the road 5 days and 2 days mastering it at home. And yeah that was that. When I produce a track, I always want to master it rightaway. I always get ready for a gig with like, really good diner, most of the time shrimps, because they are my favourite dish, then I take a short nap. And then I’m ready to go of to where I’m going to play the gig and then I’m fully prepared. You said you had a unique twist to your music, “The Hardwell Twist” How would you describe it? It’s out of the box, if you have to pick one genre its progressive, because of the breaks, I’m using big synths. It’s also a bit trancey maybe... in the beats it has a more techy twist, and a bit of a techno twist. You can still hear that I’m a Dutch producer because sometimes you can hear a bleepy beat. Like Laidback Luke, you know? It’s not Dirty Dutch Music, or whatever you call it, Dutch House music. But I get my influence from there and just flow with all those genres and making one big record!

How does hardwell make his music(k)?
How do you work when you do collaborations with other dj’s, like you did with showtek and tiësto? How many hours do you spend making music every day of the week? When I do a collaboration, I always discuss everything with the artist I’m doing it with. Sometimes I come up with the melody, sometimes they do. It’s what the artists prefer.I’m always working on music, even if it’s just an edit or a remix of some sort. If I have some time off, I’m still working on music.
I’m sure you all have a knowhow of how hardwell makes his music right now. I’m sorry everyone. But I’m gonna close this chapter of relaxation and chillosity. It was a pleasure to keep you guys up to date with the best DJ according to our own mellowmagazine. As chief of the magazine, I just want to say, that Hardwell is the best DJ in the world if you ask me. Because his playstyle is just a lot different from for example, the swedish house mafia and afrojack as wel. It’s been a blast guys! For what we know, the dutch DJs performed the best this year, because in the top 10 of DJMAG.com there were like 4 dutch people voted into the top 10, with Hardwell 6th, tiësto 2nd, Armin van Buuren 1st and Afrojack 7th. But Hardwell is rising up the ranks, and they are just staying put. which is good for hardwells reputation. Since hardwell is touring a lot he has gotten a lot of expectations. But he delivers. And that’s what’s most important.

Axwell (born as Axel Christofer Hedfors, 18 December 1977) is a Swedish DJ, remixer, record producer and record label owner. He was part of a three person group dubbed the Swedish House Mafia along with Sebastian Ingrosso and Steve Angello. In 2011 he was placed 12th on the DJ Magazine Top 100 DJ Poll. In late 2004 Axwell released a global hit, “Feel the Vibe”, which was re-released under Ministry of Sound in 2005 with added vocals from Tara McDonald as “Feel the Vibe (‘Til The Morning Comes)”. It peaked at #16 in the UK Singles Chart in August 2005

Sebastian Ingrosso (born Sebastian Carmine Ingrosso on 20 April 1983) is a Swedish DJ and producer of Italian descent. Born in Grahamstown, South Africa but raised in Sweden, Sebastian spent his teenage years in his father’s studio learning how to make music, with his first official remix released on Mega Records in 1999. He was ranked #26 in 2011 on DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJ list, and won the award for the highest new entry into the chart in 2009, a record beaten only by Deadmau5 into the 2008 Top 100 DJ list at #10. Sebastian Ingrosso is head of A&R for his own record label, Refune, which has pioneered many artists in recent years including AN21, Max Vangeli, Style of Eye and Alesso. Sebastian is also one third of the DJ super-group Swedish House Mafia, along with friends Axwell and Steve Angello.

Steve Angello (born Steven Angello Josefsson Fragogiannis on November 22, 1982) is a GreekSwedish DJ, producer, and record label owner. He is married to Isabel Adrian, who appeared in the Swedish reality show Svenska Hollywoodfruar, he is also a blogger and designer. He is a former member of Swedish House Mafia. Angello was born to a Greek father and Swedish mother in Athens, Greece. His father was killed when Steve was a teenager. Raised in Stockholm, Sweden, he found himself submerged in the world of music that he so loved and came to cherish. He started out as a Turntablist, fusing hip-hop, breakbeats and 1970s classics but later moved onto House music, in the club life of Stockholm, together with his best friend Sebastian Ingrosso.

the swedish house mafia summarised Swedish House Mafia is a Swedish electronic dance music trio consisting of three house disc jockeys and producers, Axwell, Steve Angello, and Sebastian Ingrosso. The group officially formed in late 2008. The supergroup placed at number ten on the DJ Magazine Top 100 DJ Poll 2011. On June 24, 2012, the group announced via their website that their current tour would be their last together before a hiatus. They released their first official single, “One (Your Name)”, under the name Swedish House Mafia on Beatport on May 26, 2010, where it achieved international success, charting at number 7 in the UK Singles Chart. The next single, “Miami 2 Ibiza”, featuring Tinie Tempah, charted at number 4 in the UK Chart in September 2010. Both tracks were taken from the album Until One; a collection

of productions and remixes from both Swedish House Mafia as a group and as individuals. It has achieved a BPI Gold Sales award in the United Kingdom. In May 2011, Swedish House Mafia released a new single, “Save The World,” featuring John Martin on vocals, which charted at number 10 in the UK Chart. Later that year on December 16, they released the track “Antidote” with Knife Party. On March 12, 2012, Swedish House Mafia released their next single titled “Greyhound” and their final track “Don’t You Worry Child” was released on September 14, 2012. That same month on September 17, the group announced the release of a second compilation album titled Until Now, forming the official soundtrack to One Last Tour. The album was released on October 19, 2012, two years after the release of their first compilation album Until One.On June 24, 2012, it was announced via the group’s website that the final leg of their 2012 tour would be their last: “Today we want to share with you, that the tour we are about to go on will be our last. We want to thank every single one of you that came with us on this journey. We came, we raved, we loved.” They stated three show dates, with the last leg of their tour set to be announced in August. It is unknown whether the group members will collaborate with each other again. In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine in regards to the group’s breakup, Angello said that “we just decided that we reached a point where we didn’t know what the next

On September 24, 2012, Swedish House Mafia announced the dates for their farewell tour appropriately named “One Last Tour.” The tour will kick off in November 2012 and conclude in March 2013. Due to extremely high demand, additional shows have been added. On July 7, 2012, Swedish House Mafia played for a soldout crowd in Phoenix Park, Dublin. The concert descended into chaos, with a “significant number” of random unprovoked attacks at the show, leading to comments from the Irish justice minister concerning the “very unusual” nature of the events. A total of nine people were stabbed. The possibility of multiple attackers was not immediately ruled out.All those attacked were in their teens or twen-
ties. One man was stabbed five times as his girlfriend looked on in horror, receiving wounds to the liver and requiring stitches to his elbow and head. Another man was left in a critical condition after being stabbed four times in the back and kidneys. Two young men, Lee Scanlon (20) and Shane Brophy (21), also died during the concert; the circumstances of their deaths were not immediately clear. Brophy, from County Laois, was rushed to hospital but died there. On November 29, 2010 Swedish House Mafia released their first DVD documentary called Take One. The movie was filmed over the course of 2 years, 253 gigs and 15 countries by director Christian Larson and Henrik Hanson. Larson commented on Take One by saying “It’s not narrated at all. It’s just sequences of them and it’s made into a story. It’s all chronological. It’s just us following them around and they become characters in their own film. It all happened pretty naturally. It was pretty easy because they are all such strong characters, all three of them.” The documentary starts with Swedish House Mafia in the studio with Laidback Luke working on “Leave the World Behind” and concludes at Ultra Music Festival in 2010 premiering their hit “One”. it’s a shame they are splitting up... But I guess the world goes on and there are going to be better DJs around.

Later when asked about possibilities of reunion shows from Swedish House Mafia, Angello responded “I have no idea. We never plan anything. If we get back in 10 years and say, let’s do a DJ show, why not? But nothing’s ever talked about. We take one thing at a time.” In August, Swedish House Mafia announced on their website that the One Last Tour would be its last excursion as a cohesive group. After going their separate ways, the three disc jockeys can devote more time to their respective labels and individual projects. Steve Angello is releasing his highly anticipated single “Yeah” on September 29. He also put on a concert in New York City’s Central Park last weekend along with other members of his label, Size Records. The thing is, that the three DJs are really good at their own too, but I’m going to watch one of their shows every day of the week, no matter what happens. It’s been a blast, but here are the last dates for the tour. Some of them are now sold out, unfortunately.

Ultra Music Festival is an annual outdoor electronic music festival that occurs in March in the city of Miami, Florida, United States. Previously, the festival coincided with the annual Winter Music Conference, also held in Miami, however, as of 2011, the two are held on separate weeks. Ultra is held in Downtown Miami in Bayfront Park. It was a 1-day festival from 1999–2006, a 2-day festival from 2007–2010, and was a 3-day festival in 2011-2012. It is North America’s second largest electronic music festival, after the Electric Daisy Carnival. In 2012, a record 60,000 people attended the festival per day.Ultra Music Festival was founded in 1999 by business partners Russell Faibisch and Alex
Omes. The first ever Ultra Music Festival was held as a one day event at the end of the Winter Music Conference in 1999 with performances by Rabbit in the Moon and DJ Baby Anne. The event was held on South Beach in Miami Beach, Florida, and was a major success. In March 2000 the festival returned to South Beach as a one day event, the festival was met with even more success and was renewed immediately for a third year. The 15th anniversary of Ultra Music Festival held in 2013 will be held over two weekends for the first time ever. Early Bird pre-sale tickets for Ultra Music Festival 2012 sold out within 20 minutes (seconds according to the Ultra Music Festival Facebook Page) amidst crashing servers. Shortly thereafter, pre-sale tickets increased from $149 to $229. This is also the second year that tickets for individual days did not become available for sale.

EDC Festival at Las Vegas
Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC) is an international annual electronic dance music festival held in the summertime in the United States and Puerto Rico. Founded by Insomniac Events, the festival has been hosted by venues in California, Colorado, Florida, Nevada, New Jersey, Texas, and Puerto Rico. Originally a one day Southern California event, the EDC spread to multiple venues in multiple states from June through August. In 2009, the festival was expanded to a two day event. The Las Vegas event lasted 3 days in 2011 and drew a grand total of 240,000 persons.[1] The 2012 Las Vegas event lasted 3 days and drew a grand total of 300,000+ persons.

Tomorrowland is organized by ID&T, entertainment and media enterprise. Tomorrowland is held in Belgium as an electronic dance music event (festival) organized every year in the town of Boom since 2005. The first names that showed up were Push (M.I.K.E.), Armin Van Buuren, Cor Fijneman, Yves Deruyter, Technoboy and Coone in that year.[citation needed] The latest event was the eighth edition of the festival which was held between July 27 and 29, 2012, including Afrojack, Above & Beyond, Basto, Carl Cox, Ferry Corsten, Sander van Doorn, Swedish House Mafia, Avicii, Fatboy Slim, Laidback Luke, David Guetta and Steve Aoki. The 2012 edition took place on Friday, July 27,
Saturday, July 28 and Sunday, July 29. The line-up consisted of 400 DJs, such as Skrillex, Avicii, Skazi, David Guetta, Nervo, Hardwell, Swedish House Mafia, Afrojack, Steve Aoki, Carl Cox, The Bloody Beetroots, Paul van Dyk, Martin Solveig, Chuckie (DJ), Fatboy Slim and Pendulum playing 15 stages per day. Because of the enormous success of Tomorrowland and the fact that it is a Belgian festival, ID&T decided to give Belgians an exclusive chance with a presale (80,000 of the 180,000 tickets) on Saturday, March 24. In less than one day, all of the tickets sold out and at some moments there were 2,000,000 people on the online waiting list. The worldwide sale started Saturday, April 7 at 11am. Within less than 2 hours, the other 100,000 tickets sold out. The event became the most international one as yet, attracting over 75 nationalities. More than 35,000 people used the camping.
