Karlena L. Wallace: It’s a pleasure to have you part of our 2014 Foodie Issue. When thinking of your work — good cooking and eating well comes to mind. How were you able to leverage your style sense and turn your passion for food into a thriving career and business? Candice Kumai:

KLW: What were the steps you’ve taken to create a career you love?

KLW: With your brand, everything seems conspicuously pulled together in a contemporary and trendy way. Is this indicative of your personal style? How would you describe your brand?

‘If

you don’t speak up nobody will hear you.’”

KLW: Being the youngest chef to compete on Bravo’s inaugural season of “Top Chef” at age 23, your career blossomed early. What was that experience like for you and how did it shape your career?

KLW: Your online presence gives a glimpse into your life and is an extension of your voice; was it a deliberate move to be transparent? How does your online community impact your business?
