Downtown Church Pilgrimage • Sunday, December 11 at 5:30 p.m.

The pilgrimage begins at Mt. Zion Baptist Church 356 East Boulevard, then goes to First Methodist Church and First Presbyterian Church on North Boulevard, St. Joseph’s Cathedral, then, St. James Episcopal Church, and ending at First Baptist Church at about 8:00 p.m. You can start or stop anywhere along the route in a joyful, community evening!

A Service of Lessons & Carols

• Sunday, December 18 at 5:00 p.m.

Following the format used by King’s College, Cambridge, and enjoyed by young and old for nearly 100 years, come hear the Christmas story interspersed with favorite and touching Christmas hymns, carols, and anthems. A one-hour service that is an Anglican masterpiece! The St. James Treble Choir will host a Holiday Reception in the Parish Hall parlor, immediately following the service.

Christmas Eve and Day • Saturday, December 24 at 3:30 p.m. The St. James Christmas Pageant; a joyous family service where many of our sweet angels, handsome shepherds, and cuddly lambs dress up to reenact the Christmas story with traditional carols and songs; followed by the celebration of Holy Communion. To have your child be part of our tableau, or to volunteer to help, call Mary Boutwell at 225-387-5141 or by email to mboutwell@stjamesbr.org. Our professionally-staffed nursery will be open for the 3:30 service on Christmas Eve.

• Saturday, December 24 at 7:00 p.m. The Christ Mass. Be part of this beautiful, traditional Christmas Eucharist, full of Christmas carols with the St. James Choir, director Jason Hubbard, and Herndon Spillman, organist.

• Saturday, December 24 at 11:00 p.m. The Christ Mass in our beautiful church is calm, and stained glass is bright just before Christmas morning in this very special service for the family to remember the true meaning of Christmas. The organ and choir are glorious, the beauty is stirring, and the message is Presence.

• Sunday, December 25 at 10:30 a.m. It’s Sunday, and Christmas! We’ll have (only) our mid-morning, simple Christmas morning service to fill your hearts with pure and joyous love.
