Events for Everyone in June Family Movie Night: June 10 Reminiscent of the days when families would pile into the station wagon for an evening at the drive-in, we’ll gather in Bishops Hall for an evening of burgers and hot dogs, popcorn, concessions, cartoons, and a family-friendly movie! We’ll have a Cardboard Car Contest, with prizes! On Wednesday, June 10, the Bishops Hall drivein opens at 6:00 p.m.! Reservations required; $5 per “car” (family) will help defray expenses. We will have food, drinks, and lots of fun at each event. Maybe even a surprise or two! Grandparents and baby sitters are welcome to bring your children to the play dates if that works best for you. Each playdate is $5.00 per family, reservations are required, and space is limited, so act now! For online reservations, click here (or go to www.stjamesbr.org/ecwplay). THE CSF MISSION:
Providing Food for the Journey
Centering Prayer at 6:00 on Sunday evenings “Be still, and know that I am God.” —Psalm 46:10 Centering Prayer is a simple method of contemplative prayer developed out of the teachings of the Desert Fathers and Mothers of the early church. It is not a substitute for other forms of prayer, but rather a method of deepening our relationship with God. We meet God where God waits for us, in silence.

Strategic Planning Update: Town Hall Meetings
Senior Warden Lee Griffin counted over 300 parishioners in attendance at the Town Hall meetings held on Sunday, May 17, and Wednesday, May 20 to review the draft Strategic Plan crafted by the Strategic Planning Committee. The process of the committee, the contributions of the eight task forces, and the responses to the parish-wide survey were widely reviewed so parishioners would fully understand how the various components of the plan were determined. Visit www.stjamesbr.org/stratplan to read or review the reports and drafts released, so far. Additional releases from the Committee will be posted to that page as they become available.
We invite you to join us on Sunday evenings for a time of Centering Prayer. Our evening begins at 6:00 p.m. in the Atrium on the third floor of the Ministries Center for the opportunity to sit in silence together in Centering Prayer. We are finished well before 7:00 p.m. No prior experience with Centering Prayer is necessary, only a willingness to be available to God in silence.
Book Club Meeting Our book selection this month is Why, God? Suffering Through Cancer into Faith by Margaret Carlisle Cupit, and St. James’ very own Ed Henderson — and, Ed will be at our meeting! He will sign your copy of the book, too. The link above goes to Amazon; or, contact Ed at ehender@lsu.edu or 225-3445833 to purchase a copy. We are meeting at the home of Dr. Christine Smith, 10623 Ashbrook Drive, Baton Rouge, on Monday, June 22 at 6:00 p.m. R.s.v.p. to Christine, or 225-241-8843.
