welcome to the Sixth Form at ST JAMES SENIOR GIRLS’ SCHOOL
“Here you’ll find a school where everyone can feel and be special. Its small size and strong focus on being a supportive community and bringing out the best in every pupil help set it apart; we both feel confident and prepared for our futures thanks to the opportunities, teachers and pastoral staff provided throughout our Sixth Form journey.”
Uniquely St James
The next two years are arguably the most exciting of school life, where incredible opportunities and inspirational teaching will help your passions ignite and you develop a true sense of self.
So much of what makes our school unique, including a vegetarian diet and our philosophical approach, where we pause for a moment’s silence, rolls into Sixth Form life. But your journey through Year 12 and 13 has a notable shift, namely in the way that you learn. A dedicated Sixth Form Centre, offering space and independence, small class sizes and a changing dynamic with your teachers are some of the defining features of our Sixth Form. Whichever subjects you choose, we’re confident you’ll feel supported, empowered and part of a special, friendly community, whether you’re a current pupil or joining us from elsewhere.
Beyond the Classroom
Striking a balance between our academic and co-curricular programmes is a non-negotiable for us, and there are plenty of enrichment opportunities on offer, including sports, Performing Arts, the Extended Project Qualification and Community Action. This specifically allows you to explore opportunities outside the classroom, including teaching in local primary schools or mentoring our Prep School pupils, doing your Duke of Edinburgh Awards or volunteering abroad. Whatever you choose, these real-world experiences will help you build skills, resilience and confidence for life.
Your Learning Journey
With over 20 subjects on offer, you can choose to pursue what you love, stretch your intellectual curiosity and take ownership of your learning journey.

Leadership Opportunities
We want everyone at St James to feel like they can make a difference. And for our Sixth Formers this means giving you leadership opportunities and responsibilities, including Deputy House Captains in Year 12 and the Sixth Form Leadership Team in Year 13. These roles help you develop personally, to be a role model to our younger pupils and to make changes for the good of others.
Beyond St James
Deciding on which path is right for you after school is a huge and very personal decision. For some it’s university, for others it’s a Gap year, whilst apprenticeships and employment are other options to consider. Therefore it’s important we inform and inspire you across every option and our Explore your Future programme does just that.
From talks by Oxbridge speakers to student finance help, mentoring from our alumnae and parent network or work experience opportunities, your careers journey can be as unique and personal as your learning one.
