As the need grew for their work, Charlie and Sandy founded Project 2 Heal, a non-profit organization based in Waxhaw, North Carolina. The mission of Project 2 Heal is to reduce the cost and time it takes to place a service dog with a person in need. They accomplish this by nurturing, socializing and training purpose-bred Labrador Retriever puppies, for donation, to carefully selected service dog organizations. Over the past 11 years as a non-profit, Project 2 Heal has grown to partner with 26 service dog organizations across the country, donating close to 500 puppies, and has an average success rate of 75% with their puppies graduating to become service dogs. Project 2 Heal has a presence in the community as the provider of therapy dogs in the local public school system and provides visits to assisted living facilities and local businesses for “stress down” days.
