By Land and By Sea

Watersound recreational activities are abundant, with many of them conducted on or below the waters of pristine bays and the magnetic and magnificent Gulf of Mexico. Here, it’s possible to catch your own seafood.

Artificial reefs and the nearby Underwater Museum of Art attract scuba divers and free divers. Meanwhile, paddleboarders glide along the protected waters of bays, the Intracoastal Waterway and the area’s rare coastal dune lakes — or even the Gulf on a calm day.

At low tide, runners take to the hard-packed, wet sand at the water’s edge and get their miles in while treated to world-class views that inspire them to go a bit farther. The beach, itself, that white ribbon that separates the surf from higher ground, is irresistible.
