MEMBERSHIP A MESSAGE FROM THE MEMBERSHIP TEAM

Carly Sostheim

Carolyn Webre

One of the reasons we love our Club is that our Membership is made up of so many varied demographics. Some join as a semi-retired couple who enjoy golf at their second home while others join as a young family of four who recently moved to the area full-time to live the coastal lifestyle. Something we have found in common with a majority of the Membership is that almost all are looking to make friends, join in some type of social grouping or find a golf buddy to play with. Seeing these relationships grow and develop over time and being able to assist with that sense of community and connection that people want in their Club warms our hearts…because that’s what it’s all about!

We are getting so much positive feedback from all the new events we’ve been hosting including Bingo & Trivia Nights as two of the most popular. We’re looking forward to all the events we have planned for 2020 and sharing them with you. These events were designed for you. They are a chance to meet Hollie Parker fellow Members, have your children meet other children and form a sense of family and comradery while creating traditions for years to come. That being said, we had an overwhelming response this past year of Members feeling like they are more aware than ever before about events, activities and announcements happening at the Club. We are so happy to see that you are enjoying receiving the communications and that you are getting more engaged. More of you are interacting on social media posts, asking questions about things you saw in the monthly newsletter and sharing publications like the Experience Club Magazine with your neighbors and friends.

Page 8

MEMBERSHIP A MESSAGE FROM THE MEMBERSHIP TEAM (continued) We are constantly searching to improve on the quality of our communications in order to keep you most informed about your Club. Weekly Emails – A round-up of weekly happening and important announcements at The Clubs by JOE for the coming week. Sent via email on Saturday mornings. 2. Social Media – Our Members-only Facebook Group is used to share event updates, time sensitive Club updates such as inclement weather closures, share photos from past events, and more! If you are not part of the group, we encourage you to join here. The Clubs by JOE also has a public page on Facebook that we encourage you to follow, interact with and share with your friends and family. The best referrals of new Members come from existing Members who want to share the lifestyle with everyone they know! 4. Experience Club Magazine – This semi-annual publication offers a taste of the lifestyle offered by The Clubs by JOE. Featured stories and imagery capture the people, places, and events that make up our community. Magazines are mailed to Members’ homes each January and June. Copies are also available online and at each Club. 5. GOLF A MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR OF GOLF Sean McGaughey, PGA Director of Golf

I hope this edition of the newsletter finds you well and enjoying a new decade! It’s hard to believe we’ve already started the New Year and really haven’t had any cold spells. Other than a few sporadic cold days in January, we have been very mild allowing more members and guest the opportunity to play. Our Turf Care crews continue to keep the golf courses in phenomenal shape, so if you haven’t had the chance to get out on the course this Winter, please join us. We unfortunately didn’t host any tournaments this month, but our weekly Ladies and Men’s groups continue to grow. These groups are fun for all and a great way to meet new friends at the Club. If you’re interested in joining either group please contact the Shark’s Tooth for more information. The game of golf is growing in a very positive way, and I think you will agree that so should our handicap system. At the start of 2020, the USGA unveiled it’s new World Handicap System. The USGA has done a great job on building informative posters and literature to help players easily understand and navigate through the upcoming changes. A few helpful resources can be on USGA’s website – usga. org/content/usga/home-page/handicapping If you’re in the market for new clubs this year, you will definteily want to save the date for our upcoming Demo/Fitting Day at Shark’s Tooth Golf Club on March 28. This is a great opportunity to try all of the new equipment released by leading manufactures, while having your local pros help fit you for new clubs.

Page 11

GOLF A MESSAGE FROM YOUR SUPERINTENDENTS Josh Parker Superintendent, Shark’s Tooth Golf Club

The ups and downs of the beautiful, then dreadful cold weather pattern continued for us last month. I hope everyone took advantage of the good days to take in some golf! We have continued tree work around the course. You should notice a couple nice views of Lake Powell as you make your way around #14 and 15. We will continue to thin out and prune a few areas that are overgrown. We have started some much needed cart path repair on holes 7 and 8. We will continue these repairs for the next few weeks and will be repairing areas on holes 1, 2 and 4 after 7. It is a slow process from start to finish, but we will get there. This is a critical time for the turfgrass going into the spring, especially with the weather patterns we have been seeing. The turf will begin to green up and then get hit with 30 degree temps all a sudden. This is not good, as the plant uses it stored carbohydrates for green up. We ask that you please keep cart traffic on the paths around tees and greens and use the 90 degree rule to help keep the stress of the plant to a minimum. This will help the turf in this critical time, so that we can have a healthy golf course going in to Spring.

Ryan Dykes Superintendent, Camp Creek Golf Club

As we work towards the closure of Camp Creek for the upcoming amenity expansion and regrassing project in the Spring, we are steadily working on the outlying areas. Our goal is to open up the course and reclaim some of the areas that have blocked air flow and views for the last several years. We recently did some major work on the right side of #11 to open up the line of sight to the right side of the hole from the tees. We would like to be able to see the hole more clearly from the tee box, expose the hazards, and make it much easier to find your ball if you slip up and slice it a bit right. Another area that we have begun to open up is near 16 green so that the golfer can see the whole bunker to the right of the green. We believe that the openness we are creating will lead to more enjoyable rounds of golf in the future. Some of these spots are still in rough draft form and will continue to be worked on in conjunction with the regrassing project. The greens are still in good shape and we will work to maintain them at a championship level until the closure. If you haven’t been out in a while I would encourage to come out and play to check out the work we have done. Just keep it in the fairway. If you do happen to hit a poor shot you may have a much better shot at finding it! Thank you for your patience through this process. Our goal is to give you back your course after the project in a condition that you will be proud to bring your guests. We will Make Camp Creek Great Again!

CHEF’S CORNER SHRIMP SPRING ROLLS

HOW TO PROPERLY CLEAN YOUR COOKWARE

Ingredients:

Courtesy of realsimple.com

• 2 ounces rice vermicelli noodles • 1 teaspoon sesame oil • 8 rice wrappers • 8 large cooked shrimp – peeled, deveined and cut in half • 3 tablespoons chopped basil • 3 tablespoons chopped mint • 3 tablespoons chopped cilantro • 2 leaves bibb lettuce, chopped • 4 teaspoons soy sauce • 1/4 cup water • 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice • 1 clove garlic, minced • 2 tablespoons white sugar • 1/2 teaspoon garlic chili sauce • 3 tablespoons hoisin sauce • 1 teaspoon peanut butter

Cast Iron The most effective way to preserve the hard-earned seasoning on your cast iron pan’s surface is to limit the amount of time that you expose your skillet to water. Read: whatever you do, don’t soak. For the best results, rinse your pan as soon as you’re finished cooking once it’s had a chance to cool off. (FYI, cast iron is excellent at retaining heat, so this can take some time). For cooked-on debris that won’t budge with warm water, use coarse salt and vegetable oil to make a scrubbing paste, then rinse with hot water and a few drops of a mild dishwashing soap if need be. To prevent rust from forming, dry the skillet thoroughly and lightly coat the surface with cooking oil. Cover with a paper towel to protect it from dust for storage. If the pan forms a sticky coating or does start to rust over time, give it a scrub with steel wool and re-season it.

Directions: 1. Bring a medium saucepan of water to boil. Boil rice vermicelli noodles 3 to 5 minutes, or until al dente. Drain and cool the noodles. Toss vermicelli noodles in sesame oil, basil, mint, and cilantro. 2. Fill a large bowl with warm water. Dip one rice wrapper into the hot water for 5 seconds to soften. Pull and lay wrapper flat on a damp linen. In a row across the center, place 2 shrimp halves, a small handful of the vermicelli noodle mix, and bibb lettuce, leaving about 2 inches uncovered on each side. Fold uncovered sides inward, and then tightly roll the wrapper, beginning at the end with the lettuce. Repeat with remaining shrimp, noodles, and bibb lettuce. 3. In a small bowl, mix the soy sauce, water, lime juice, garlic, sugar and chili sauce. 4. In another small bowl, mix the hoisin sauce and peanut butter. 5. Serve rolled spring rolls with the soy sauce and hoisin sauce mixtures.

Nonstick Nonstick pots and pans are lifesavers when it comes to cooking sticky foods with minimal oil and almost no cleanup. The slippery surface makes cleaning a breeze, too. With a soft sponge, simply wash with hot, soapy water. Avoid abrasive sponges or cleaning pads. Every time you use them, you’re scraping off the nonstick finish bit by bit. One other big mistake we see time and again regarding nonstick pans is the use of cooking spray. Over time, the lecithin in the nonstick spray (PAM is the most popular) will cook onto the surface of your pan, build up, and become nearly impossible to remove. The result? A ruined nonstick skillet. The coating gets completely degraded from the spray and will no longer act as a nonstick surface. Stainless Steel So beautiful when you first buy! And when it comes to high-heat browning and super even heat distribution, nothing beats stainless steel. However, once you’ve finished searing your steak, you’ll probably notice that the surface of your previously glistening pan looks about as brown as the meat. Start by washing with hot, soapy water. If that doesn’t take the stains off (and it likely won’t), scrub the surface with Bar Keeper’s Friend using a dobie pad, and enlist lots of elbow grease. Copper Copper is absolutely gorgeous, but it’s a beast to maintain because it tarnishes easily. First, wash it out with soap and hot water. To keep the exterior shiny, you’ll need to polish it regularly. If you’d rather use a home mixture than buy a dedicated copper polish, try rubbing the exterior with lemon halves that have been dipped in salt. The acids in the lemon should help remove the tarnish.
