MEMBERSHIP A MESSAGE FROM THE MEMBERSHIP TEAM Sometimes we get in our routines and our regular activities that we don’t realize what is before us. In reflecting back on some recent conversations with Members, it made me realize that we have so much to offer and we aren’t just a “golf club” or “beach club”. We are a CLUB! Carly Sostheim
Carolyn Webre
Hollie Parker
We are a Club where you can enjoy Bingo with the family. We are a Club that celebrates Friday nights in spring & fall on the beach with a bonfire! Our predictable habits generally lead to us enjoying what we love but hinder us from exploring more. We are happy to say that 2020 is a very exciting year and the event and social calendar is packed with something for everyone. The Super Bowl Scramble at Shark’s Tooth was anything but predictable! With a stellar number of golfers at 92, the event was most successful. The Ladies Luncheon & Art Class with The Shard Shop is also filling up quickly for March 5. Seeing these events come to life and watching Members enjoying every aspect of the Club is what drives us. We want you to enjoy all that the Membership has to offer and make the Club, your Club!
The Club Management team meets monthly to review events and gatherings and brainstorm about the future to ensure that we are constantly pressing forward. A social advisory group will also shed light on desired experiences and hold a piece to the teamwork it takes to develop successful events. So for the month of March, we encourage you to break out of your comfort zone to see what the Club offers! Grab your ladies and attend the Ladies Luncheon & Art Class. Invite your neighbor and stroll through France at the Wine Walkabout. Maybe even get in the spirit and donned in all green while you race for the Pot of Gold at the St. Patrick’s Day Shamrock Shuffle. So many great options and so much to do…we’re just waiting for you! See you real soon.

GOLF A MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR OF GOLF Sean McGaughey, PGA Director of Golf The 2020 golf season is here and thanks to all of your participation we had a phenomenal February. It’s great to see everyone so eager to get back out on the golf course. I look forward to what I hope is yet another record breaking year at the clubs, and if there is anything we can do to help make your golf experience any better, you need only ask. Please be on the lookout for your 2020 Golf Handbook. This handbook will keep you up to date on all major events for the 2020 season. This book will allow you to plan ahead as well as refresh on any club rules and guidelines. If you have any questions or need help signing up for any events, please contact one of the golf shops and a staff member will be more than happy to assist you. We had our opening event of the year with our 2020 Super Bowl Scramble. To date this is the largest non-major event the clubs have ever had with 92 total participants in the field. The weather was perfect and, I’ve got to say, so were the scores. We paid out prizes for 1st Place Gross and 1st through 3rd Place Net. Taking home our low gross prize in a scorecard playoff was the team of Walt Wilkerson, Kinn Pittman, Jett Brady and Bob Novelly with a score of 63. Our low net winners were Josh Verville, Philip Jones, Todd Zaborski and Gary Fischer with a score of 55.8. Great playing gentlemen! A big thank you to everyone who was able to participate in this wonderful event. I was fortunate enough to host our Annual Short Game School this month with 16 participants. With a little help from my fellow pro Matthew Hipps, we were able to take our members through all the core fundamentals needed to become a short game expert. Watching everyone smile as we worked on our short game skills was such a pleasure, and I would like to personally thank everyone who was able to participate. If you ever find yourself needing a tune up on your game, please make sure to come visit one of your educated golf professionals at the clubs. The professional team is here to help you through any swing issues you may have so that you may get the most enjoyment out of this wonderful game. With the upcoming re-grassing at Camp Creek Golf Club, we will be hosting a closing sale on all apparel in stock. If you haven’t had a chance to swing by, please do so asap to take advantage of all the great deals. We have top name brands that everyone is sure to enjoy. So if you are looking for some fresh gear for the season, or just a few gifts for family, we would love to help you.

GOLF A MESSAGE FROM YOUR SUPERINTENDENTS Josh Parker Superintendent, Shark’s Tooth Golf Club
Overall, not a lot has changed on the course here is the past month. The main focus continues to be bed work and cart path repairs at Shark’s Tooth. We have repaired bad areas of the cart path on holes #1, 2, 4, 7 and 8 so far. There are plenty more areas that need repairing and we will get to those over time. On your drive from the Proshop to the tunnel, you will notice a much cleaner look on both sides of the cart path. We removed some trees and debris and installed pinestraw. As you read this, the palmettos in all the beds should be trimmed and all the beds should have fresh pinestraw installed, or at least in the process. This allows for better playability, pace of play, as well as helping for weed control. Not to mention, it looks great! As we are definitely seeing, and will continue to see, an increase in play, we ask that you please rake bunkers behind you, repair ball marks and fill divots. The groups behind you will appreciate it!
Ryan Dykes Superintendent, Camp Creek Golf Club
As we near the official beginning of our course improvements project and the amenities additions at Camp Creek work is being done to lay the foundation for future success. We continue to focus on the greens and the native areas. The greens are in good shape and have been maintaining a good speed over the past month. Some times after the fronts push through and give us the low 30 degree days they almost get too fast. If there is such a thing. The main issue with those speeds here are the undulations which lead to a lot of hard pins. Hopefully the challenge has not been too frustrating. Outside of the greens we are just maintaining the rye in anticipation of killing it off in a few weeks. Exciting times are ahead of us in the near future as most of my staff has never gone through the process of growing in a golf course with new grass. While it will be a challenge as it always is dealing with Mother Nature, we hope to expedite the growin process and get the course back open for play as soon as possible. There will be no dates released for reopen because sometimes it is hard to predict how the weather may help us or delay the process. Other than that, we are doing some Native area cleanup so that when we do open you will have views that haven’t been here for quite some time. I encourage all of you to come out and play one last time and get a glimpse of the work we have done and hopefully get an idea of what you can expect when we reopen on …. :) Thank you for your patience and support

CELEBRATE ST. PATRICK’S DAY WITH AN IRISH INSPIRED RECIPE! Courtesy of foodnetwork.com
Garlic Potato Topping: •
4 large russet potatoes, peeled and quartered
•
10 whole garlic cloves, peeled
•
1/2 cup sour cream
•
1/4 to 1/2 cup beef broth
•
4 tablespoons butter, softened
•
1/2 teaspoon salt
•
1/2 teaspoon freshely ground black pepper
Filing: •
4 slices bacon, cut into thin strips
•
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
•
2 medium onions, chopped
•
1/2 teaspoon salt, plus 1/2 teaspoon
•
1 teaspoon sugar
•
1 pound ground beef
•
2 to 3 medium carrots, roughly chopped, (about 1 cup)
•
3/4 cups frozen peas, thawed
•
2 garlic cloves, minced
•
2 tablespoons tomato paste
•
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
•
1 (12-ounce) bottle light or dark beer
•
1/2 cup beef broth
•
1 teaspoon finely minced fresh rosemary leaves
•
1/2 teaspoon freshely ground black pepper
•
1/2 cup grated Swiss or Cheddar
•
2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley leaves
1. Prepare potato topping: In a large saucepan add the potatoes and garlic and cover with cold water. Bring to a boil over medium heat and cook, uncovered, until the potatoes are fork-tender, about 15 to 20 minutes. Drain. Transfer the potatoes and garlic to a large bowl. Add the sour cream, 1/4 cup of the broth, butter, salt and pepper, and beat on low speed with a hand mixer until the potatoes are light and fluffy, about 1 to 2 minutes. If the mixture is too dry, add the remaining 1/4 cup broth. Do not overmix. Cover and set aside.
2. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Spray a 10-inch round baking dish with nonstick spray. 3. Prepare filling: Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the bacon and cook, stirring occasionally until browned and almost crisp, about 7 to 8 minutes. With a slotted spoon, transfer the bacon to a plate; set aside. 4. Add the oil to the drippings in the skillet and put over medium heat. Add the onions and 1/2 teaspoon of salt, and cook, stirring occasionally, until the onions are very soft and just beginning to brown, about 10 minutes. Sprinkle in the sugar, and cook, stirring occasionally, until the onions begin to caramelize, about 3 minutes. Stir in the beef and cook, stirring occasionally, over medium-high heat, until the beef begins to brown, about 7 minutes. Add the carrots, peas, and garlic and cook, stirring, until the vegetables begin to soften, about 5 minutes. Stir in the tomato paste and flour and cook, stirring, until well blended, about 2 minutes. Add the beer, bring to a boil and boil for 3 minutes. Cook, stirring with a wooden spoon, and scraping up the browned bits from the bottom of the pan, about 2 minutes Add the cooked bacon, the broth, rosemary, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, and the pepper, and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer, uncovered, until the sauce thickens, about 15 minutes. 5. Spoon the meat mixture into the prepared baking dish. Spread the potato topping evenly over the beef mixture. Bake until the filling is hot, the topping is lightly browned and the edges are bubbly, about 35 minutes. Remove from the oven and sprinkle with the cheese. Return to the oven and bake for 10 more minutes. Let rest out of the oven for 10 minutes before serving. Sprinkle with parsley and serve.

Make your reservations at Shark’s Tooth in order to experience the recent improvement project. All four courts have new lines, nets and hydro blend material. Come out and enjoy the pristine playing conditions with your singles opponent or doubles partner. Ladies league team matches are underway for the spring season. All courts will be utilized 8:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. for our home match on March 10. Spectators are welcomed. You may contact me if you are interested in joining a team. Private, semi-private and group lessons are available for all ages. If you have been on the sidelines for a while or if you are just getting started, call me to schedule your specific day and time. I look forward to seeing you on the courts soon!
Pro Tip- Buying Time The lob is an very important shot in both singles and doubles match play. The most common use for the stroke is in order to deliver the tennis ball over the net players head. I would submit that there is another equally important use for the lob, which is to buy time when you are out of position. By putting more loft on the shot your opponent has to wait for ball, in turn giving you an opportunity to recovery back into the point. In your next match, try utilizing your lob in order to buy time and get ready for instant success!
