TAUG HANNOC K FA L L S Take Rt 89 north from Ithaca 8 miles to Taughannock Falls State Park. The gorge and hiking trails are on your left. For easier access, cross the bridge and i turn left on Taughannock Park Rd and follow the signs to the overlook above the falls. Visitor Center located at the Overlook and open seasonally.

The tallest single-drop waterfall east of the Rocky Mountains! At 215 feet, this cascade is three stories taller than Niagara Falls.

Take a long hike around this multiple cascade waterfall that flows through a dramatic shale and sandstone gorge.

This is waterfall swimming at its best, where the powerful multi-plume plunge empties into a wide swimming hole.

From downtown, take Aurora St north 0.7 miles to Lincoln St. Turn right, then take an immediate left onto Lake St. The falls will be on your right. Park in the small lot adjacent to the falls.

Find the upper trailhead near the College Ave bridge, adjacent to Cornell’s Schwartz Center for Theatre Arts. The lower trailhead is downtown at Cascadilla Park, near the intersection of Court St and

University Ave.

The main routes into the city are New York highways 13, 79, 89, and 96. Interstate 86 intersects NY State Rt 13 in Elmira, about 40 minutes southwest of Ithaca. Interstate 81 connects with NY State Rt 79 half an hour east of Ithaca at Whitney Point, and with NY State Rt 13 about 35 minutes from Ithaca in Cortland.

There are three municipal parking structures, one on Green Street just east of Cayuga Street, one at the corner of Tioga and Seneca Streets and the other on Cayuga Street to the south of the Commons. All three garages are free on evenings and weekends. Additionally, metered street parking surrounds The Commons.
