As a member of the squad the squad managers will be responsible for your wellbeing, safety, mentoring, training and any other requirements to support you during your time in the squad. You will find out who your team manager is on the third training weekend. Your position with the Squad will commence on Thursday 26 January 2017. The purpose of this Letter of Expectations is to ensure that each and every Northern Region squad member is clear on the management team’s expectations of their behaviour over the time they are in the squad. 2. Term The terms and conditions of this agreement will cover from the commencement date (26/01/2017) until 1 month after the National Youth Festival (24/05/2017). 3. Duties Our expectations are that you will always apply all your energy and effort to the training provided both at and outside of training weekends so that you become a highly skilled and competent competitor and first responder. 4. Conduct Being a member of the Northern Region Youth Squad is considered one of the highest level of representation in St John Youth. Your conduct as a member of St John must always be of the highest standard. We expect you to always conduct yourself in a manner that promotes and displays the St John Core Values of: We do the right thing (Whakaaro tika – Take responsibility. Make the tough calls. Think of others). We have open minds (Whakahangahanga – Listen openly. Encourage ideas. Welcome feedback). We are straight up (Whakapono – Act with honesty, courage and kindness). We make it better (Whakawerohia – Find solutions – step up, own it, do it). We stand side by side (Whakakoha – Respect, value and support what others contribute). You are expected to maintain your attendance at your Division as a member of the squad and to pass on your learnt skills and knowledge to your peers to raise the clinical profile within your division, your Area and your District. 5. Social Media Conduct Our expectations are that you will always follow St John’s Social Media Policy when it comes to your conduct online. We have included a copy of the St John Social Media Policy with this letter for your information. Any situations involving cyber bullying will be taken seriously and will result in serious disciplinary action, as bullying of any and all forms will not be tolerated. 6. Personalised Development Plan Being a part of our Northern Region Squad is not only about heading off to competitions. We also take your personal development seriously, which means we will work collaboratively with you as a squad member to develop an individualized member development plan, identifying strengths and areas for development, and helping you to come up with goals that you would like to achieve during the Nationals experience. This will start from the first training weekend and be regularly reviewed. Your input and commitment to this plan are extremely important and it is expected that you will take your personal development as seriously as we do. 7. Uniform We expect you to always wear your uniform correctly and with pride as per the St John Core Values. You are expected to wear your uniform at appropriate events and functions. It is your responsibility to ensure that your uniform is correctly washed, ironed and always presentable. If you are unsure of when to wear your uniform or how to care for it correctly, then you should approach one of the Team Managers for guidance. We will be more than happy to discuss these with you. In addition, you will be issued with competition overalls which will need to be returned on the final day of the National Youth Festival and a travel uniform that will be your responsibility to look after as you would your uniform. St John will meet full costs of any items of your St John uniform that needs replacing. We will review the uniform you have been issued and where necessary we will replace uniform that is damaged or incorrectly sized so that you have a full and complete uniform which is fitted correctly and in good condition for competing. Costs of your travel uniform will be covered by the fundraising you are expected to participate in over your term as a member of the squad. 8. Attendance at Trainings As a member of the Regional Youth Squad you are required to attend each of the trainings on the dates provided. If you are not able to attend any training weekend you must contact your team manager and the Training Manager in advance (4 weeks’ notice where possible) who will discuss and consider your situation and form a solution with you. You must note that failure to obtain prior approval to be absent or an unexplained absence from any training weekend may cause your managers to question your
dedication to training which may incur consequences being placed upon you. Please refer to Section 12. Although dates for each training weekend have been finalised, please note St John reserves the right to amend, change or cancel these dates. Any changes will come with advance notice and will only be made as a final solution. Everything in our power will be done to ensure that these dates do not change. Event

Your Area Committee can be engaged in meeting this cost if required and this will be discussed further at training. 11. Hardship It is not the intent to preclude any of our members from enjoying the many activities on offer, therefore if required you can apply for hardship support. If you would like to take this option up please discuss options with your team managers. All discussions will be held in confidence. 12. Consequences and Disciplinary Action Any breach of the expectations outlined above will incur consequences or in more serious cases disciplinary action. In any case this will include a discussion with you and your managers to discuss the breach in question and the development of a behavioural management plan. If required your parents and the Contingent Manager may be involved. If your behaviour does not improve after a behavioural management plan has been put in place, your position in the squad may be reviewed. 13.
