The countdown is on...
Festival Participants! Time is flying by and we are now officially in the year of the 90th Birthday of the St John Youth programme in New Zealand! We are excited to release our official programme for the National Youth Festival!
Our apologies... Our action packed festival programme also includes some extra anniversary events for previous members of the programme to join in on the celebrations. We highlighted two of these in our previous newsletter, these were the paddle steamer trip and the reunion evening (previously named wine & cheese evening). These activities are intended for past cadets and members who want to be part of the celebrations running alongside the festival. These events are restricted to live out participants only and are separate to the festival. They are the first of many anniversary and reunion events that will be run all over New Zealand during the year to celebrate. We apologise for not being clearer in communicating this. If you registered as a live in participant and indicated you wished to attend either event you have not been registered or charged for them. Our festival programme is running at the same time as these events and we are doing lots to ensure we celebrate your 90th birthday so no one will miss out on the action.

Competitions Venue: Cooks Gardens We are very excited to announce Cooks Gardens as the Competitions venue for NYF 2017. Cooks Gardens was used as a sporting facility over 120 years ago in 1896. With capacity for over 20,000 people and a redevelopment in 2004 we’re sure it’ll be a great venue for our competitions. It was at this venue in 1962 where tens of thousands of spectators crammed into the stadium to witness Peter Snell break the world record mile. The team at cooks gardens are pleased to be hosting us for the day and we have secured exclusive use of the venue. Being a large venue but still very easy to get around will make it a perfect location for our competition day.
90th Anniversary Gala Dinner This Gala Dinner will be held on Sunday night and will celebrate everything we have achieved in our 90 Years and after a weekend of celebrating our history we will look to the future as the new Youth Strategy is launched. It will be a formal dinner with all of the lavish pomp and ceremony you can expect. The dress code has been set as black tie, which means dinner suits (tuxedos) and bow ties for Gentlemen and elegant dresses for Ladies. Medals and decorations should also be worn. There are lots of resources online if you’re not sure what to wear and it doesn’t need to be expensive – costume hires can be a great place to start. We will have some special guests joining us and we have invited all past members, leaders, officers and cadets to join us. Let’s pull out all the stops and celebrate in style!
We need you! The festival committee are hard at work making sure every little detail comes together to make this a festival to remember! We are on the look-out for some people power to help us during the festival alternatively, if you would like to be a judge for the competitions please email us with your ATP or if you’re happy to volunteer as a patient or marshal on the day drop us an email at central.nyf@stjohn.org.nz so we can organise some teams. Stay tuned for further details coming out to you soon!
