March for Responsible Energy

Feature d Event!

Monday, May 14 Meet at noon at the Santa Fe Train Depot (410 S. Guadalupe) Walk ONE MILE from the Depot to NM Energy, Minerals & Natural Resources Dept. (1220 S. St. Francis) WHY: Join St. John’s Students for a Sustainable Future (SSF) and Santa Fe’s Climate Change Leadership Institute (CCLI) to protest the attempt by the Oil & Gas Industry to overturn NM’s PIT RULE, which provides for proper waste water disposal while “fracking” for fossil fuels. (Fracking is the widening of existing fractures in rock layers through high-pressure injection of chemicals with water. The widened fractures lead to increased migration of gas and other petroleum products, thus making it easier for oil and gas companies to extract those resources. Fracking by-products potentially can migrate into groundwater, shallow and deep aquifers, and also collect on the surface near drilling sites, from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydraulic_fracturing) For more information about this Direct Action Project see: www.takeresponsibility.us <http://www.takeresponsibility.us/> or contact Students for a Sustainable Future: Sally Ko, sally.ko.413@gmail.com or Safa Pinkens, srpinkens@sjcsf.edu
