STUDY ABROAD

Law is a global profession, and there’s no better place to learn the law than New York City, the gateway to the world and the home of St. John's. We’ve designed our curriculum so you can explore how law is practiced internationally and examine diverse legal systems up close.

Offerings include international courses, a summer study abroad program held in historic Rome, semester-long international practica in Europe with NATO and The Hague, academic exchange programs with The University of Glasgow and Sorbonne University, and our annual Dean’s Travel Study Program.

Our Rome Summer Study Abroad Program is held at the St. John’s University Rome campus. Students spend four weeks and earn six credits studying international and comparative law. They also have the opportunity to visit Italian courts, cultural institutions, museums, historic sites, ancient ruins, and to meet and discuss the law with Italian law professors, attorneys, and students.

ADMISSIONS

A Holistic Admissions and Scholarship Process

While test scores and undergraduate GPAs are important factors, we don’t rely on numbers alone. We follow a holistic review process, considering all aspects of your application. We want to get to know you beyond the numbers.

Among other things, we consider:

• Academic Readiness: test scores (LSAT/ GRE), academic history (GPA, major, trends, coursework), self-disclosure of success on previous standardized tests, master's or doctorate programs, and certificate programs

• Skills and Professional Readiness: professional work history, internships, fellowships, and feedback from recommenders

• Commitment to Community: volunteer work, societal advancements, and ethical standards

• Challenges Faced and Overcome: adversity, socio-economic impacts, justice impacted, disability, etc.

• Commitment to the St. John's Law Mission: dedication to joining a diverse community, and serviceorientated institution with a long history of fairness, equity, anti-discrimination, and anti-racism

BINDING HONORS EARLY DECISION (HED) PROGRAM

The HED program is for applicants who know that St. John’s Law is their top choice. Successful HED program applicants receive a non-forfeitable, merit scholarship (awards range from $25,000 to full-tuition) for all three years. We also consider part-time applicants for HED with scholarships adjusted for the four-year, part-time day program.

Admission through the HED program is based on an applicant’s demonstrated academic readiness, skills and professional readiness, commitment to community, challenges faced and overcome, and commitment to the St. John's Law Mission. Successful HED applicants typically have strong academic profiles, including grades and/or test scores at or above the median scores at St. John’s Law. Any applicant who is not admitted through the HED program will automatically be considered for regular admission.

Our deadlines for the HED program are November 1, December 1, and January 1. We release decisions by the last day of relative deadline month.

PART-TIME FLEX DAY PROGRAM

St. John’s Law offers a flexible and customizable four-year, part-time day program. We’ll work with you to customize a schedule that meets your needs. We usually hold classes for part-time students three days a week during the first year and as few as two days a week in subsequent years.

All classes, activities, hands-on learning opportunities, and academic support available to full-time students are also available to part-time students.

"The strongest applications we see align with the St. John's Law mission. We know that applicants who share our strong interest in advocacy, inclusion, and knowledge will support and thrive in our close-knit community."

SCHOLARSHIPS

St. John’s Law awards scholarships to outstanding applicants for academic merit, alignment with our mission, and the factors considered during holistic review.

All scholarships are unconditional! Scholarships are automatically renewed annually and can’t be lost.

We’ll consider you for a scholarship automatically when you apply. You don’t need to supplement your application or qualify with a particular test score or GPA.
