Welcome Year 7

Welcome to St Joseph’s College. I remember my first day at St Joseph’s College and now looking back, I am so excited for you all; knowing what a special journey you are about to begin. This day is going to be filled with fun and excitement. The beginning of your secondary school journey starts now, new beginnings, new friendships and new lessons. As teachers we see you grow as people and add different layers to your personality. We are all very excited for you to start. As we say at St Jo’s, you will grow from an acorn to an oak tree, starting in Year 7 and finishing in Year 13. I hope you enjoy your virtual Transition Day. Make sure you fully involve yourself in all activities, relax and enjoy. I look forward to seeing you all for the assembly on the 18 June. Miss Lilburn - Lead Year 7 Tutor & Transition Co-ordinator

Maths Mathematics involves a considerable amount of problem solving, working logically and using skills you already possess to tackle an unfamiliar problem. The lesson will consist of a series of number-related tasks involving estimation and calculation as well as an appreciation of place value. Staff will monitor your progress and will be able to offer you support and guidance when you need it. This lesson is designed to encourage you to think mathematically. The problems will be accessible for everyone, will encourage you to explain your reasoning, and for those of you who enjoy a challenge they will also stretch you.

STEM STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. STEM education is far more than just sticking those subject titles together. It’s a philosophy of education that embraces teaching skills and subjects in an a way that resembles real life. Small Is...Challenge Fritz Schumacher was an influential thinker who believed that even a small change can have a big impact on people’s lives. We will be looking at the Small Is...Challenge. The challenge for you is to look at technologies from the last 100 years and invent a product that could contribute to a more sustainable future.
