The role Parish Councillor requires a considerable commitment of time and effort. Apart from attendance at meetings further commitment in preparation and research is required. And since most of the work in the parish must be done on a voluntary basis, parish councillors should be prepared to lead by example, contributing wholeheartedly to the many tasks that need to be done.

Churchwardens carry a heavy burden of both financial and management responsibility. They also carry a very heavy workload, since office support is necessarily limited. To fulfil their responsibilities effectively, wardens must be prepared to commit a large part of their time and energy to the job.

The role of Parish Nominator can be crucial in helping to shape the future of the parish. It generally requires an ability to discern, in conjunction with the Regional Bishop and Diocesan Nominators, the qualifications, experience and other qualities appropriate for a new Rector for the Parish. It requires a willingness to undertake a diligent search for suitable candidates, to assess their suitability and to present their findings to the Nomination Board. Abilities to work cooperatively with other nominators and represent the parish effectively in a diocesan setting are necessary.
