3 REASONS WOMEN SHOULD CONSIDER A CAREER IN SMALL BUSINESS Here are three key findings from Aflac’s survey that indicate women are finding happy, fulfilling careers at small businesses. 1. A supportive, close-knit working environment. One of the clear benefits small businesses have over their counterparts is the ability to more easily create company cultures that make all employees feel like they belong. In fact, in this year’s survey, women employees ranked feeling like a family as the best part of working for a small business.

(StatePoint) Talented, dedicated and ambitious women’s entrepreneurial spirits increasingly are driving the nation forward. Women have steadily increased their presence in the world of small-business ownership over the past 10 years. In fact, the number of women-owned firms has grown 68 percent since 2007, compared with 47 percent for all businesses, and women-owned businesses support more than 7.9 million jobs,

according to a survey commissioned by American Express. Women have many reasons to love working for a small business, according to Aflac’s 2018 Small Business Happiness Survey, which surveyed 1,000 U.S. employees at organizations with three to 49 employees. Eighty-seven percent of all employees said it is more fun working at a small business, and that number was even higher among women.

While working for a small business often comes with many perks, women listed flexible scheduling as the biggest perceived benefit (29 percent). This was closely followed by feeling more appreciated and feeling like their input matters. These benefits help explain how a whopping 91 percent of all employees feel satisfied working at a small

DIY HALLOWEEN TIPS TO SAVE MONEY sider the following tips: • Haunt your house for less. If you’re planning a Halloween party, the cost of tables, chairs, decorations and music can really put your monthly budget in the grave. Instead of scraping together décor from a party store, use a local marketplace app to seek out better deals and more interesting finds. For example, OfferUp, the nation’s largest mobile marketplace, connects buyers and sellers securely. Use the app to score eclectic dinnerware and serving dishes to make your home feel like a haunted mansion. Plus, there’s plenty of gently used spooky decorations to

However, 31 percent of female employees said the top challenge of working for a small business over a large one is salary and benefits. Adding voluntary benefits like dental, vision, accident and critical illness insurance is a proven way to not only help employees manage out-of-pocket medical costs, but also improve employee benefits satisfaction and job retention. 3. Progress and commitment toward pay equality. Seventy-eight percent of female smallbusiness employees believe they are compensated equally with their coworkers, and 73 percent think the small-business industry achieves success when it comes to equal pay. Still, 48 percent of male and female respondents acknowledge that there remains room for improvement. All together, these strides indicate the small-business community is on the right path forward.

• Clean out the ghosts of closets past. If your closet or garage is packed with boxes full of items from years gone by, Halloween may be the perfect time to sell stuff locally to creative costume hunters near you -either by having a garage sale or by using a local marketplace app. Your pastel windbreaker from 1985 could just be the missing piece for someone’s jazzercise costume, and those old white ski pants could help outfit a Marshmallow Man.

BPT) - Protection against cyber attacks is crucial for any small business. A surprising report says that the average small business website is attacked by bots 44 times a day; however, many small businesses can’t picture themselves as a target. It’s easy to think that only large companies are subject to cyber threats, and therefore, overlook developing cybersecurity systems and tools due to cost and lack of resources. Thus, this is the exact reason why hackers will target small businesses - they are expecting to find weaknesses. It is essential for small businesses to protect their data, develop backup measures, and build recovery plans to counteract cyber threats in order to reduce the risk of losing everything they’ve worked so hard to build. As technology continues to advance, small businesses need to consider what new technologies are best to help them, and protect critical business and customer information. The Doctor has demonstrated an intense desire to ensure his amendment’s passing currently spending over $1 million to promote it according to the Riverfront Times and had filed lawsuits to eliminate the other proposals from the ballot. The St. Louis Post Dispatch reports that Bradshaw claims that Amendment 2, also known as New Approach Missouri, collected signatures without a petition circulator present and that unregistered voters gave signatures, and that Proposition C, Missourians For Patient Care, didn’t collect enough signatures in the first place, specifically in Missouri’s 5th district. Enthusiasm for legalization and decriminalization of marijuana has been steadily growing in Missouri, a fact which has never been more evident than by the inclusion of three different initiatives to legalize the plant for medical use within the state. A poll conducted in July of 2016 by Public Policy Polling found that 62% of Missourians supported a potential amendment for medicinal marijuana, suggesting that one of these motions will certainly achieve victory. Though the three proposals (Amendment 2, Amendment 3, & Proposition C) different in some keys areas including tax rates for sales of the products, one takes a major turn from the others. Should this amendment become the winner in November, it would surely make marijuana very expensive for those patients for whom it is intended to alleviate suffering. PUBLIC NEWS

If the lawsuits weren’t controversial enough, Bradshaw’s amendment also places him as the temporary head of the newly proposed medical research facility despite having no experience being a research scientist or running a laboratory and having yet to receive any support from universities or patient groups according to the Riverfront Times. Amendment 3 would also give the new development institute 50% of the “billions of dollars” of new revenue, giving Bradshaw an extremely large Dr. Brad Bradshaw, a licensed physibudget to do with as he pleases. maintained commercial service. The program is codified at 49 U.S.C. §§ 41731–41748 and is subsidized by the United States Department of Transportation (USDOT).

A myriad of entities were forged during the mid to late seventies decade that continue to vex the average contemporary mind: the fashion faux-pas manifested as poly-blend crochet half-shirts with beaded velour fringe probably harboring at the bottom of someone’s closet, patiently awaiting a wearing to a retro-party; The Village People on a seemingly indivisible musical billing with K.C. and the Sunshine Band; Bruce (Wheaties Box Olympic Champion, circa 1976) / contemporary Caitlyn) Jenner and the Airline Deregulation Act, passed in 1978, which provided United States airlines almost total freedom to determine what markets to serve domestically and respective fares to charge for said service. Another manifestation of the Disco is not dead era, the regional airline, Multi-Aero Corporation, now operating as Air Choice One and headquartered in St. Louis, commenced operations in 1979. The nigh universal deregulation of air travel in 1978 begat the oft-threatened for termination but consistently renewed federal subsidization program for potentially non and underserved regional airports, a policy known collectively as Essential Air Services (EAS). Essential Air Service is a U.S. government program enacted to guarantee that small, populated communities in the United States, which, before deregulation (~<1978), were served by certificated airlines the

The subsidization obligation is not exactly of a penny-ante game amount, approaching a little over a quarter billion (with a “B”) dollars per year in tax payer financed monies, but at least that price tag includes remote locales within the nonmainland’s Alaska and Puerto Rico. For example, and as will explored in this writing, EAS subsidizes flights to and from Jackson, TN and St. Louis and Atlanta respectively with approximately $1,884,399 in funding per year to permit Air Choice One’s service be provided. Since the Essential Air Service (EAS) program guarantees regular commercial air service to smaller communities across the United States through the use of federal subsidies, there are terms for qualification or “eligibility”. A flight service (i.e., a regional airline route) it is deemed eligible if: • it is located more than 70 miles (112 kilometers) from the nearest large or medium hub airport; • it requires a rate of subsidy per passenger of US $200 or less unless the community is more than 210 miles (338 kilometers) from the nearest hub airport; the average rate of subsidy per passenger was less than USD1,000 during the most recent fiscal year at the end of each EAS contract, regardless of the distance from a hub airport; • it had an average of 10 or more enplanements per service day during the most recent fiscal year, unless it is more than 175 driving miles (281 kilometers) from the nearest medium or large hub airport or unless the Department of Transportation (DOT) is satisfied that any decline below 10 enplanements is temporary

(Source: “Trump seeks to cut EAS funding in FY19, revise definition” CH-Aviation.com) Regional airlines such as Air Choice One, best serving introverts, with only two rows and eight leather thrones; thus, each passenger is granted a default aisle AND window seat. Regional airlines also serve guests that fear or at last have a legitimate aversion to cattle corral style aircraft boarding. Air Choice One is a viable alternative flight service bed-rocked on privacy and personalization available to St. Louis passengers, especially those who do not derive masochistic pleasure in being crammed like sardines into a slightly more civilized transport mechanism than being shackled to one’s seat Con-Air style or, more terrestrially, choose to spend the day on the highways and byways of the Midwest (aka, fly-over country), as astutely observed by Homer J. Simpson, “I pity those poor suckers on the freeway. gas, brake, honk. Gas, brake, honk. Honk, honk, Punch! Gas! Gas! Gas!” Air Choice One offers premier quality service to airports the “big boys” (both legacy and discount carriers) simply do not due to economies of scale and scope. What is interesting and will hopefully be clarified in this piece is that the small towns to which regional airlines, like Air Choice One, fly possess their own respective narratives and are inherently interesting places worthy of conducting business in or simply a destination for a simple and lowcost get away. I tried (going to) Jackson, primarily because I cherish the mythology of the mid-South.

Fort Dodge, IA (Fort Dodge Regional Airport); Mason City, IA (Mason City Municipal Airport); Ironwood, MI (Gogebic-Iron County Airport). Albeit Burlington, IA has a real chance at serving as some incarnation of a pizza “Check Point Charlie” where St. Louis Style thin and Chicago deep dish could be traded, like old soviet secrets, in a pizza, if not politically, neutral arena. On the other hand, the HUB airports not only are tune-worthy, but are also major transportation thoroughfares including St. Louis’ Lambert International Airport, Atlanta’s Hartsfield – Jackson International Airport, Chicago’s O’Hare, and Minneapolis / St. Paul International Airport. Thus, should business or pleasure create a demand to travel to one of the above delineated facilities, reasonable and affordable scheduled regional air service via a regional airline might be the transportation solution sought. (Air Choice One’s Route Map; Please see www. airchoiceone.com for offered flight schedules.) A near forgotten practice of simply being polite and personable with the customer base moves patrons from a transactional to a relationship basis. Being transported in a workhorse, fixed wing, Cessna 208 Caravan aircraft simply aids in the old adage of making “getting there half the fun”. There is nearly a visceral, retro-journey feel to flying a mere mile or two above the earth, looking down at the earth through giant picture windows, at speeds approximating a formula race car. Taking a propeller plane is akin to riding the rails on Amtrak, not because train travel is potentially more direct or faster than driving or journeying via bus, “leaving the driving to them” and “taking the Hound,” but simply to appreciate the differentiating experience of enjoying another mode of transportation. (Air Choice One flies primarily Cessna® 208 Caravans ® single prop planes and dual prop…and pressurized Beechcraft® 1900s) For comparison’s sake, from St. Louis, MO to Jackson, TN, under optimal conditions, driving will take four hours and five minutes to cover 270 miles; no breaks for salty snacks or fueling up included. For the average efficient vehicle, assuming no burning gasoline whilst stuck in traffic or forced onto Alice in Wonderland, Through the Looking Glass detours, petroleum expenditure for that route is estimated to be $21.10 or, if one is looking for a more depressing but realistic figure including wear and tear plus car upkeep, the federal driving reimbursement cost for said distance is ~ $150. In contrast, flying is a one and a half hour comfortable and courteous undertaking and the ticket fare is just about double the average gasoline expense. The museum is actually surprisingly engaging and offers a solid examination of all facets of Casey Jones and train travel in general history, mixing in a little Civil War narrative for good measure. The oddity about the whole Casey Jones village is not Casey’s preserved pocket watch (on loan from the oldest living male heir) or horse drawn hearse from Conductor Jones’ funeral procession, nor, as suggested in 1971, the fact that Casey should have been watching his speed and the role that going too fast for conditions partially causing the fatal accident is simply ignored, but the bizarre presence of eight (8) count’em Tesla charging stations in the parking lot of this tourist center. It was time to return to catch the returning flight to St. Louis. About three hours later, another friendly Uber driver returned me to the airport about 10 minutes away from near the center of town. At the check-in desk is the extra hospitable Executive Director of the McKellar – Sipes Regional Airport, Mr. Steve Smith, C.M. Mr. Smith is chatting with Tay McDaniel, the Air Choice One Jackson Station Manager. Both individuals ensured that my experience in Jackson, TN was top-notch. The return flight from Jackson was even less onerous in terms of security, similar to when one travels private, and the gate agents walked the two other passengers and I onto the tarmac for an efficient boarding and departure process. The same pilots with whom I started the day had returned from Atlanta and post pre-flight formalities, safely ferried the three of us back to St. Louis, arriving exactly on time with a genuine thank you from the crew and passengers both. In summary, I cannot recommend highly enough utilizing the transportation service of a regional airline such as Air Choice One as a travel alternative.

Upon release, the album went to #1 in six countries – Australia, Japan, Netherlands, Norway, U.K. and U.S. The best-selling single of Lennon’s solo career, the titular song was famously written as a plea for world peace. It remains one of the most legendary songs of all time and has earned numerous accolades. BMI designated it one of the top 100 most-performed songs of the 20th century, the Recording Academy inducted it into the GRAMMY® Hall of Fame and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inducted it into their 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll. Additionally, the Guinness World Records British Hit Singles book named it the second best single of all time and Rolling Stone ranked it number three in their list of “The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.” The song has been covered by everyone from Stevie Wonder, Elton John, Ray Charles, Madonna, Willie Nelson, Neil Young, Diana Ross, Herbie Hancock and Joan Baez. SWITCH UP YOUR GAME DAY MENU (Family Features) Burgers and dogs may be typical game day grub, but a lineup that never changes can get tiresome a few weeks into the season. Infuse new energy and homemade favorites into your game day menu so you can enjoy great games and good eats for a winning combination. Explore new flavors. Add variety by building your meal around a different main dish, like ribs or pulled pork instead of burgers. Or invite guests to get in on the action and offer a DIY pizza or taco bar with a wide range of toppings for the ultimate custom plate. Then adapt your side dishes to fit the theme, like adding a barbecue spice seasoning to your party mix, for example, or offering a chipotle-style dip for veggies and chips. Add an unexpected twist. If you prefer a more traditional menu, there’s no reason to abandon all your favorite game day fare. Instead, reimagine a popular dish with a special or unexpected ingredient. For example, this recipe features a homemade pizza topped with creamy ranch dressing. An option like Litehouse Homestyle Ranch has no artificial colors, flavors or preservatives, no high fructose corn syrup and is gluten free. The dressing is a versatile addition to your game day spread since you can use it to top off everything from pizza and fries to tacos, burgers and more. For easy serving, look for the 20-ounce squeeze bottle, or opt for a glass jar or dip tub, whichever your recipe requires. Don’t forget dessert. A good game requires lots of savory, hearty foods, but by the fourth quarter, you’re likely to start craving sweet victory and a sweet treat to go along with the win. Easy individual desserts are a great bet, that way you can grab a quick bite

ously unpublished material, Imagine John Yoko is the definitive inside story — told in revelatory detail — of the making of the legendary album and all that surrounded it: the locations, the creative team, the artworks, and the films, in the words of John & Yoko and the people who were there. John Lennon is one of the world’s most celebrated songwriters and performers of all time. Lennon has been posthumously honored with a Lifetime Achievement GRAMMY® Award and two special BRIT Awards for Outstanding Contribution to Music, and he has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame. In 2008, Rolling Stone ranked Lennon in the Top 5 of the magazine’s “100 Greatest Singers Of All Time” list. With a message as universal and pertinent today as it was when the album was created, Imagine secures John & Yoko’s collective place in cultural history.

SOMEWHAT SHY GUY WITHOUT A CLUE You: Hanging out with three other girls on a Friday night at Sauce By The Side in The Grove. You had blonde hair, a cute red top and nice jeans. Me: I was the obnoxious one with another guy trying to hit on all you gals at your table, but you really caught my eye. I have dark brown hair, but no facial hair. I was wearing rough blue jeans and a v-neck tee-shirt. I’m probably am out of your league, but I figured what the heck? Situation: I went to hit the john and when I came back to my table, you and your friends were gone. In our flirting you mentioned being a huge Sting fan and that you were in your Junior year at Washington University studying medicine. I never got your name. It sucks to be me right now. I really hope to catch you there again on another Friday night. My name is Randy. DEAR RANDY I’m not the girl you are looking for. I was one of the friends. You are correct, you are out of all of our leagues. Leave us alone. MAN LOOKING FOR LADY COMPANION It seems like most people have paired up for the year except for me. I’m older (45) male, still strong, married once, good job, nice car. I like hiking, fishing and auto facing. I am a moderate St. Louis Cardinals fan and a huge Blues fan. Not very religious but I am getting tired of on-line dating, too many scammers. I am looking for a female (35-45), no kids (I don’t have any either), a non-smoker, no drama, low maintenance and confidant. I’m not too shallow but please be height/weight proportionate. I thought I would give this a try and see what happens. Respond to M-PN001. MAN SEEKING FUN WOMAN I’m going to try this old school personals thing. I am a recently divorced man (37 y.o.) with two teenage boys that I have 50% of the time. I live in West County but travel downtown frequently for business. Looking for a woman near my age for dating and general hanging out. I like wineries and live music. On weekends that I do not have my kids, you can find me hanging out on the Delmar Loop. Respond to M-PN002. MAN LOOKING FOR SPIDERWOMAN Hi. I’m looking for a female that is very active and has time for a guy like me. I’m kinda nerdy in a Big Bang Theory sort of way looking for my female nerdy equivalent. You must know who Dr. Stephen Hawking was and who Dr. Sheldon Cooper is. Anything other than that would be icing on the proverbial comic book store cake. I’m in my twenties and never married! Surprised? Respond to M-PN003.
