CAST IN BRONZE Sculptor Harry Weber Discusses Monumental Bronzes Join renowned sculptor Harry Weber for a discussion on the making of monumental bronzes, including the story of major bronze works in St. Louis. Weber is a prolific artist, with a fluid and natural style. His works are represented in museums and private collections in the United States and abroad, including the National Dog Museum and the Baseball Hall of Fame. In 2011 he was named National Sports Sculptor of the year by the U.S. Sports Academy. The party will be held at the home of Phoebe Weil, an art conservator and art historian with an extensive background in materials and techniques. She is currently co-director of Northern Light Studio, which focuses on reconstructions of works of art based on technical and historical information. Bliznik came to St. Louis from the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, where she was associate principal trumpet. SECRETS OF THE CHORUS STL Symphony Chorus Director Gives the Inside Scoop Why are choruses so important to orchestras, and how do the two work together? Amy Kaiser, director of the St. Louis Symphony Chorus since 1995, answers these and other questions in an informative talk. Kaiser has a wealth of experience, including conducting more than 50 performances with the Metropolitan Opera Guild and serving as guest conductor at Chicago’s Grant Park Festival and the Berkshire Choral Festival. In her current role, she has prepared the Chorus for performances with music directors David Robertson, Hans Vonk, and Leonard Slatkin, and for many international guest conductors. Wine, soft drinks, and hors d’oeuvres will be served.
