TRINITY SUNDAY

ANNUAL CONFIRMATION GROUP PHOTO

today

Last week at Pentecost we completed our annual cycle of reliving the great story of our salvation in Jesus Christ: today we adore and celebrate the Godhead revealed to us in Father, Son and Holy Spirit:

Three Persons yet One God, the Holy and Undivided Trinity So now we revert to the Ordinary Time of the Year; the liturgical colour of vestments and altar frontals is green for the life given by our creator God and we seek to live out in our lives the significance of all that we have learned and experienced by our annual recitation of the story of the Birth, Ministry, Death and Resurrection of Jesus and the Giving of the Holy Spirit. But later this week there is one pendant to the Feast of the Trinity, one glorious coda to the narrative of our Salvation, one final festival attached to the cycle that began on Advent Sunday.

The Thursday after Trinity Sunday – that is, this Thursday - is always

The Feast of the Institution of the Holy Eucharist or

CORPUS CHRISTI This Thursday 4th June 9.30am Sung Eucharist St Mary Abbots School Children will make presentations even more special than usual to mark this great feast. For many of them it will be the first occasion to share the Communion since their Confirmation. As always all are welcome to the service, young & old, whether or not you have any connection with the school.

FINAL THINGS... This Wednesday, 3 June 2015 1.30-4.30pm Presented by K&C Forum for Older Residents, St Mary Abbots & PSALM Do everyone a great favour, including ourselves, by thinking ahead about how we want things to be organised for our funeral, and all the things that follow. This a chance to talk about the non-negotiable fact of life. Oh, and don't imagine it with be a sad and sombre session - practical of course, but also smiles and laughter as we face the facts together. A session for older people to talk about how to be prepared for this inevitable part of life. Tea sandwiches, cake. Book your free place call Jenny Welsh 020 7937 2364

FRIDAY 1.05 ROYAL COLLEGE OF MUSIC RECITALS Glorious music performed by world-class students – admission free; refreshments available. This Friday: Music by RAVEL, BORNE & POULENC. There’s a handbill with full details – don’t forget your copy.

KENSINGTON AREA ARCHDEACON’S VISITATION A forbidding title but a joyful reality: it’s the legal ceremony held once a year by which newly-elected churchwardens are admitted to their ancient office. Churchwardens are in fact Officers of the Crown, and the Diocesan Registrar has to be in attendance (in gown and wig – lawyers like dressing up almost as much as clergy) to administer the Oath etc. Our wardens are now: Parochial Wardens Jamie Dunford Wood & Adrian Weale Assistant Wardens for St Mary Abbots Hannah Stewart & Jamie Dunford Wood It’s our great delight to welcome Hannah to this demanding and essential role in the life of the church, acting as the leaders of the laity in the parish, and as point of communication between clergy (especially the Vicar, who knows nothing) and the congregation, and taking legal responsibility for the Fabric and Ornaments of the church. It’s tinged with sadness, because with their admission we say farewell to David Banks our most distinguished former parochial warden, and especially our beloved Carole-Anne Phillips, who for the last ten years has worked tirelessly as one of our St Mary Abbots wardens. Watch out! There’ll be an opportunity shortly to say thank you to them both properly. th

Wednesday 10 June HOLY & BLESSED THREE A QUIET DAY FOR TRINITY

Addresses, Silence, Eucharist, Hospitality in the tranquil and beautiful surroundings of St Mary’s Convent, Chiswick It starts at 9.30 and finishes at 3.00pm, so if that is significant for you it fits neatly within a school day. Booking: Julia.Hedley@stmaryabbotschurch.org or sign the list in church

St. Mary Abbots Book Club next meets at 2.30pm on Thursday 11th June to discuss GK Chesterton’s local novel "The Napoleon of Notting Hill". Afterwards we will enjoy a friendly and delicious tea. New members welcome; please contact Anita Quinn for details: Ann_Q@Hotmail.co.uk

It was with great joy that on the Thursday before half term we welcomed Bishop Peter Price to confirm candidates, young and old, into the Eucharistic fellowship of Christ’s church. We presented no fewer than 9 adults and 9 younger candidates from St Mary Abbots; 7 St Mary Abbots School pupils who go to other churches but were prepared by us; 5 candidates from St Philip; and one each from St Luke Redcliffe Gardens and The Chapel Royal, Hampton Court. When our National Church is popularly supposed to be in terminal decline, this is a wonderful expression of the vitality of our church - we’re moved that so many wish to stand up and make this public profession of their faith. Our thanks to all who worked hard to make this so memorable an act of Christian worship, celebration and commitment: George and the Vestry and Serving teams; Mark and the Choir; Alison and all who helped provide and serve the splendid hospitality abcd

Christian Aid Week

We’re still open for donations - please return any giftaid envelopes. Most surprisingly Fr Gillean DID manage to complete the ‘Circle the City’ Sponsored Walk. This year he only managed to be SECOND FASTEST TO COMPLETE THE COURSE (this isn’t quite as grand as it sounds – everyone else goes around in friendly parish groups complete with toddlers & OAPs on zimmer frames, while he strides on ahead in grim-faced and generally unpleasant isolation), losing out to some callow youth who no doubt had spent months in training. Muscles and joints are still complaining that he really can’t, at his advanced time of life, expect them to undertake a thorough workout on one only occasion in the entire year. Our thanks to all who so generously sponsored him. Already you’ve given £1,730 donated online (within a whisker of his £2k target) + a further £250 in cash & cheques. Kindly pay any further sponsorship money as soon as possible to make this suffering worthwhile – either online: https://www.justgiving.com/Gillean-Craig/ or sponsorship forms in church.

still to come… THURSDAY JUNE 11, 9.00am-4pm
