MATHEMATICS METHODS This course is designed for students considering a Methods pathway for Mathematics in Year 11. The elective is taken along with Year 10 Mathematics and together they are run as a single course. The course content will mirror the TASC Methods Foundation Level 3 course content with the intention of providing the best preparation for either Methods Foundation or Methods 4 in Year 11. Students will not be formally enrolled in the TASC course in Year 10 although this opportunity may be available on request. To be able to select this course students would normally have taken the Advanced Mathematics course in Year 9. Students who have performed very strongly in Year 9 Australian Curriculum Mathematics may also be accepted to this course with approval of the Mathematics Coordinator. To be successful in this course you need to: • have strong mathematical skills • be a motivated and enthusiastic learner with a resilient attitude • be able to work independently • have a positive approach to being challenged. In this course you will study: • linear, quadratic and cubic functions • polynomial, exponential and logarithm functions • circular functions • derivative calculus • probability • The course encompasses in-depth use of the CAS calculator. This course normally leads to: • Mathematics Methods Foundation 3 in Year 11 • Mathematics Methods 4 in Year 11.
