MATHEMATICS St Mary’s College caters for varied learner ability and interest by offering a wide range of Mathematics courses in 2024. A general guide for Year 10 students in terms of the Mathematics course they choose in Years 11 and 12 is as follows: •
If you have completed the Year 10 Mathematics course and you are not yet at standard, you would normally select either Essential Maths 2 (either Personal or Workplace) or General Mathematics Foundation 2.
•
If you have completed Year 10 with a satisfactory level of achievement at Year 10 Mathematics (a minimum of a C standard at the end of the year), you would normally select General Mathematics Foundation 2 in Year 11 and then perhaps General Mathematics 3 in Year 12.
•
If you have completed Year 10 and achieved an above satisfactory result in Year 10 Mathematics (an A or a strong B standard at the end of Year 10) you could select General Mathematics 3 or Mathematics Methods Foundation 3. If you intend to study Mathematics Methods 4, the pathway for you is to select Mathematics Methods Foundation 3 in Year 11 and Mathematics Methods 4 in Year 12.
•
If you have successfully completed Mathematics Methods Foundation 3 in Year 10, you should either repeat Mathematics Methods Foundation 3 (as your Year 11 result will contribute to your ATAR) or select Mathematics Methods 4 for Year 11. Methods 4 in Year 11 would then allow you to select Mathematics Specialised 4 in Year 12.
Please discuss with your Mathematics teacher your specific pathway as the above represents a general guide only.
