(This course is available to students in both Years 9 and 10. It may be selected for either one or both semesters. The content in each semester is different.)

To be successful in this course you need to: • develop an understanding of many food related topics • demonstrate safe working practices • demonstrate hygienic work practices • develop an understanding of how good food choices affect future health • develop skills in time management and resources.

In this course you will: • use practical lessons to develop safe food handling skills • work from recipes, develop alterations and design new recipes • develop practical skills to produce a variety of food products • gain an understanding of the properties of the food you cook and food production processes • undertake group and individual tasks to work cooperatively.

Class activities include: • use of a variety of equipment and produce to reproduce goods • practical work • related assignment work or investigations.

This course could lead to: • enhanced skills in food handling and preparation • VET Hospitality, Food, Cooking and Nutrition or Food and Nutrition in Years 11 and 12 • careers in teaching design technology (food), hospitality, bakeries, food production, food photography and nutrition.
