Adventures in Process Improvement Derek Contreras (M.S. ’11)
Regional Process Improvement Engineer Bimbo Bakeries USA Friday, Oct. 12, 2012 — 1:30 p.m. AT&T Center for Information Technology, Room 108 Contreras will discuss his successful implementation of improvement techniques such as Lean and Kaizen in the food industry. Bimbo Bakeries USA is the largest baking company in the nation and produces a broad array of baked goods under a variety of brands, including Sara Lee. Contreras is an adjunct professor in St. Mary’s University Engineering Department.
Electric Transportation: An Industry Overview and What’s Happening in San Antonio Julia Jones

Jones will present an overview of the evolution of the electric transportation movement and how the recent high-demand for plug-in vehicles could affect utilities, the economy and the environment. Her talk will probe these issues and pose questions for future investigation.

Friday, Nov. 2, 2012 — 1:30 p.m. AT&T Center for Information Technology, Room 108 Jimenez and Wyatt-Mair will provide general information about the unique characteristics of the San Antonio Alcoa plant which features a strong emphasis on technological innovation. The speakers will present a description of the various types of engineering applications conducted at their plant (mechanical, electrical software, industrial management and metallurgical engineering).
