ACADEMIC CERTIFICATE PROGRAM IN
Conflict Transformation
A Catholic and Marianist University
A nine-month, four-course certificate designed to equip participants with practical and imaginative approaches toward transforming conflict and healing divided societies in constructive and sustainable ways.
UNIT ONE:
Conflict Transformation: Theory and Practice An educational exploration of established and emerging theories, strategies and actors within this dynamic field of strategic peace building
UNIT TWO:
Identity, Religion, and Violent Conflict An examination of how the complex tectonics of identity are shaping the diverse contexts of conflict and coexistence today
UNIT THREE:
Models for Engagement and Encounter An introduction to a variety of imaginative and relevant conflict transformation techniques used by practitioners working in divided communities
UNIT FOUR:
Conflict Transformation Capstone: Northern Ireland Field Study An opportunity to apply lessons-learned through a collaborative field study project in Northern Ireland
Travel to Northern Ireland for a two-week series of practitioner workshops, creative and critical thinking sessions, field-based experience and reflective practice. This final course will conclude with a comprehensive evaluation by faculty of the participant’s ability to comprehend and integrate the strategies, concepts and practices of conflict transformation.
CERTIFICATE COST: $11,000 Includes: Tuition and fees for online courses, room/board, transportation and program facilitation in Northern Ireland Each year, one or two partialto-full scholarships are made available to students living or working in developing countries and/or conflict and post-conflict regions. Interested students will need to submit a letter requesting scholarship consideration along with their full application. To be admitted, students must have an undergraduate degree or equivalent from an accredited institution prior to admission to the certificate program.
