• The route of the Grand Tour of Switzerland is basically designed for cars and motorbike à Larger vehicles must expect restrictions at 18 points (details on the following pages).
• The route can be taken in both directions, but clockwise is recommended (especially in towns with one-way streets or motorway junctions).
• Disclaimer: The Grand Tour is a route recommendation on the existing Swiss road network. Travelling the route is at your own risk. ST and the GToS association accept no liability for structural changes, diversions, signalling, special events and safety regulations on the route.
• Motorways are only used on the Grand Tour if it makes sense in terms of traffic and route à a motorway vignette is required for cars (CHF 40.00 / approx. € 34.00).
• Flat-rate heavy vehicle charge (PSVA) for Swiss vehicles : In Switzerland, you pay a performance-related heavy vehicle charge for motorised transport vehicles and transport trailers if the total weight of each exceeds 3.5 tonnes.
• The Grand Tour leads over five Alpine passes above 2000 metres above sea level, which offer the following alternatives:
à Flüela: Vereina car transport from Klosters-Selfranga to Sagliains
à Julier: road across the pass is open year-round
à San Bernardino: road tunnel between Hinterrhein and San Bernardino
à Gotthard: new road across the pass; road tunnel between Airolo and Göschenen
à Furka: car transport services from Realp to Oberwald
• Lake Lucerne is crossed from Gersau to Beckenried by car ferry (end of April to end of October, www.autofaehre.ch).
à Alternatively, the route from Gersau to Brunnen can be travelled by road.
